Great additional service to your business. I just have a bench grinder I use to sharpen my blades in my garage. I own 2 sets of blades for my Honda HRX self-propel push mower. (2 mulching blades per set) I usually sharpen all 4 blades before mowing season begins (here in Nashville, TN area), and change out the blades about mid-season. I often question if I'm really sharpening my blades at the proper angle and if I'm getting them really balanced or not (using the nail technique). I've thought about investing in better sharpening equipment, but I really like this option of shipping them to a trusted operation like yours. Thanks, Pete!

Hi mate, great new adventure! Hope it’s a success for you. I offer a very similar service, among others, and one off the biggest problems for me is that a lot customers don’t know to safely get to the blades, then how to remove the blades, left and right hand threads? or even have the tools to remove/reinstall them properly. So they just keep on mowing, and they let them go to the point the blades are destroyed and not worth it. I end up replacing the blades in a 6-12 service on the mower. So l still get the work, but not on a regular schedule. Cheers Stoney…

Pete I think you'll do well because many people are buying battery mowers these days from big box stores and because they hardly break down (my last one needed just one part in 17 years of use) they don't have a relationship with a local mower shop who previously might do servicing as well as blades. Also, I have two blades as you said and keep a sharp one handy >BUT< I never thought about blade BALANCE! So If I wasn't in Australia, you'd be getting my blades mate 👍😀

I generally want to do my own because I’m cheap and I can knock it out quickly at home, but if I get it professionally done, I’m happy to support a local guy who sharpens blades for a living (some are skilled craftsman who treat it like an art). BUT…. This is a good idea for some folks. They don’t know how or don’t want to bother with sharpening their own. Or, they don’t want to mess with trying to find a local guy. Or perhaps they live in an area where there isn’t a shop or professional sharpener. Or, they have limited time because of a busy life and just want to send it out. Good idea Pete.

Pete! as a UPS xmas driver. i would say those blades need to be secured some how after sharpening or they are going to slice their way right out of the box from the laser sharp job you'll do putting a cuttin' edge on them. most of the time professionally i se them plastic banded... (another can of worms again) when they are brand new, my work around idea would be those thick rubber bands triple twist tied on each end and about an inch before the cutting edge of the blade starts? next one is idea only but sleeved plastic cap ends like router cutting bits come in or welding rods....where to get those and for dirt cheap?????? i don't have a clue other than plastic soft drink bottles and heat gunned to form to the blades, nothing super tight or pretty just strong enough and fast enough to keep the cutting edges from opening the box for 100 shakes ought to do it. plus you get a green recycling credit perhaps on taxes?

I invested in an RBG712 and I sharpen my blades every 10 hours I mow 4 acres 2 to 3 times a week. Takes me maybe 15 minutes to do 3 blades razor sharp. I was considering charging my buddies 10 bucks for 3 blades as it doesn't take that much work as long as they pre clean them. But maybe I need to up my price lol.

No, Kevin, your price is in line. The local knife and saw shop here that does nothing but blades and absolutely is NOT using a hand grinder is charging me under $10 a blade. Blades come back razor sharp, balanced, and with an even edge. It's a free market economy, but there is no way in heck I would pay the stated price for this service. May be right for some folks with small yards who don't know one end of a wrench from the other with money to burn, but definitely not for someone with some modest skills and/or a larger yard.
