@@peterbayne7227 Learning a language is a life-long process ;) Btw, i can recommend you a site called "italki", you can schedule lessons wih natives for small amount of money, and also an app (free one! and it is great) "tandem" where you can just chat with natives. Good luck!

I am in Taiwan. When people speak to me in English I respond in Chinese without even thinking. Then I don't hear any more English from them. They assume that if I can speak Chinese then I can understand Chinese but that doesn't always follow. I guess what they are saying from context and from context I learn new vocabulary. It is slow going but I am getting there.

I've read a comment on Reddit that in order to have an almost perfect Chinese pronunciation, it's advisable to exaggerate the tones and try to imitate how a Chinese speaker would sound like. How true is this? For me, it seems like it should be that way considering that the Chinese language is very sensitive when it comes to tones. I am not learning Chinese right now. I am learning French and then I plan to go for Russian then Korean. Someday I would want to go for Chinese.

I think the lady speak better Chinese. Maybe those people who start learning Chinese not at an early age made more efforts to learn. So congrats to them for reaching this good level of Chinese.

如果一个中国人不喜欢美国口音或者是英国口音，绝对不会被说什么，因为你有选择自由。可是，如果你说你不喜欢北京口音或者东北口音，或者又或是哪里口音，那可就死定了，一大堆的中国人就会过来喷你，尤其是那个被不喜欢地区的人。这就可以体现一个国家的人均素质的。

Seems like everyone’s mouth is formed differently for accents. I think it’s fair to say if one’s Chinese level is considered excellent or native would mean that he/she has a perfect tone and pronunciation. Being fluent to speak a language doesn’t mean you’re a native speaker.
