I stopped using MFP when they removed the barcode feature. I was a loyal user for 8 years and got used to the features and functionality of the app. Then out of nowhere the removed a key feature, I was extremely disappointed to say the least. So now I am watching this video to find an alternative, I assume many others are doing the same...
@drmarcmethod2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are not alone. I stopped using it and am pretty close to transfer my clients over. From what you've found so far, what app are you leaning towards switching to?
@anthonyjakuszeski69632 жыл бұрын
@@drmarcmethod I have tried "Cronometer", "Lose It", and "Fat Secret". Out of those three I would probably rank "Lose It" as my favorite with "Fat Secret" in second place. Cronometer is good, but it doesn't seem to let you organize your items into breakfast lunch and dinner. It just adds the food items in the order that you entered them. So it's kind of annoying if I know what's for dinner and add that first so that I can budget the remainder of the day, it all seems backward. Also, "Lose It" seems to recognise more foods with the barcode scanner than the others. Just my 2¢
@drmarcmethod2 жыл бұрын
@@anthonyjakuszeski6963 I appreciate your input! Yes many tracking apps are moving towards a timeline tracking model vs. meal structure, I know MacroFactor Still lets you group them though. This is an adjustment for anyone coming from MFP through.

I guess your free sub will really hurt them big time lol. Why would they care about losing people that don’t pay ? Are you really that stupid lol 😂
@helpinghardgainers67532 жыл бұрын
I'm really curious how this is playing out for MFP as a company. I personally think if they went with a $4.99 or even $9.99 membership price LOTS of people would have subscribed without all the negative PR. Plus, then its a small enough bill to forget about and keep paying indefinitely. (good for business) Everyone knows they need to make money and would probably support them in most cases. However, the double whammy of removing popular features AND charging $19.99 to get them back feels greedy and immediately prompted me to look elsewhere for myself and my clients. They just gave every competitor a HUGE opportunity to takeover the market share in this space.
@drmarcmethod2 жыл бұрын
John! thanks for stopping by and chiming in. This is exactly how I felt as well and made the same suggestions to my clients (mainly because it felt like a slap in the face to loyal users). As for MFP's business strategy, I also can't imagine this has worked out well for them, but if I'm playing devil's advocate, I NEED to believe someone has crunched these numbers and this puts them ahead. Because at face value, you're right it doesn't make any sense.
@nihouma112 жыл бұрын
Yeah, $19.99 is predatory pricing. Fitness is absolutely important, but between that and all the other costs of staying healthy, it's just too much. Between gym costs, personal training, fitness apps, and the cost of healthy eating, it's sooooo expensive
@TheOnlyTaps8 ай бұрын
Spot on. I think the price point for my fitness pal is what holds it back for just the average user looking to get some of the useful features without maybe going all in. If I was them I would have added tiers for different pricing for different features that way you have an entry point for maybe people who want some of the features but not all who would probably pay at the lower tiers

What's the best to track macros?
@drmarcmethod2 жыл бұрын
Great question. Best practice in my opinion is to track what you're eating for 5 days, without changing a thing, then take the 5 day average for the macronutrients (protein, carbs and fat) and compare them to optimal levels 1.5-2.5 g/kg for protein, 3.0-5.0 g/kg for carbs, and 0.5-1.5g/kg for fat). Set initial targets moving towards these ranges, not at them, with some consideration for your goals. Most people have a tough time if they start at what is considered "optimal". Make sense?

Will be looking into MacrosFirst too. TY (PS. Have used (& loved) MFP user since 2013. Faithfully since 1/2020, gave me a project during Lockdown, but am looking at Alts.)

YES! That just made my most recent video. Are you using MyPlate?

@@drmarcmethod yes ! a con tho is the database isn’t very large so I find myself manually inputting meals often. Also if you track food under a specific meal (eg breakfast) and eat it again the next day but for a different meal (eg lunch) it seems as tho you have to input it all over again. Other than that great app.
