Whatever else is showcased here, I absolutely love the way Alex says monkey. The little pause halfway through is delightful. "MUNG - KEE" 🐒

That's the Welsh accent, I think. I agree, though, it is rather delightful.
@liamwalsh400810 ай бұрын
@@simonfoster7288 It is to an extent, but it also seems to be partly just her. Rob and Rhod Gilbert don't say it nearly as pleasingly (monkeys come up a lot on this show, apparently), though admittedly Alex's accent is stronger than either of those lads.

@@liamwalsh4008 Maybe from a different part of Wales? (I'm not expert on Welsh accents). But her accent is charming.
@liamwalsh400810 ай бұрын
@@simonfoster7288 I'm really not sure. I can't account for it. Her hometown of Ammanford in Carmarthenshire is about the same size as Rob's hometown of Baglan, but Rhod's from Carmarthen which is more than twice the size of either. There is a distinctive accent that seems to be unique to south-west Wales, though, which I've noticed in Carmarthenshire and (especially) Ceredigion. Since Rob is from further east and Rhod's from a larger town, Alex could be demonstrating a semi-rural west Welsh accent. Ammanford isn't far from Swansea though, but even so. Apparently she went to a Welsh-language school (which Rhod didn't), which I suppose might explain the stronger accent, though she spoke English at home. Ho hum, it's all a rich tapestry. 🤷♂️

There have been Oscars for almost a 100 years. No way did a director who won two Oscars only happen in the 80s/90s, even without Googling. And now that I've Googled, it was Frank Lloyd, in 1933. There's a long list before you get to Spielberg or Stone.

Alex has the same way of delivering her lies and truths. Claudia mumbles her truth and speaks her lies pretty normally. Greg has this thing that if he mentions his sister, it's true. That is why I think she is a better guest than given credit for. Bob is still the best though.
@Argeaux28 ай бұрын
You cannot tell if someone is lying, due to their body language. Even an intelligence test can’t tell you if someone is lying. That’s because some people get nervous when they lie, and some people don’t.
@Alice-xy3fi7 ай бұрын
And that thing about people looking you in the eye meaning they're telling the truth is a totally debunked bit of folklore; in fact I think I've read that liars, knowing that people tend to believe that despite its repeatedly been shown not to be so, often make a point of making direct eye contact knowing they're more likely to be viewed as telling the truth because of it. Utter rubbish, and she says it with such authority and conviction, lol.
