It's why I love this movie and his character. It's like he's making it so obvious and sticks out like a sore thumb, but due to how trash society is, especially rich elite capitalist wall st. etc circles, nobody notices he is 'utterly insane', because so is society. The irony being that Patrick tries so hard to fit into American ideals, he doesn't realize he fits in perfectly - a complete psychopath.

I think his most versatile scene, besides the climax where Bateman is confessing on the phone, has got to be in the dry cleaners. He goes from frantic to angry to calmly psychopathic, back to angry to livid to gobsmacked to defeat to masking himself as a timid, yet friendly person to aprehensive while giving on mild expressions of still being livid all in 30 seconds. Fucking brilliant.

Fuckin disturbing scene honestly. I think about civilizations like the Roman or British empires. In this scene, and others surely, you can see he believes himself way above the homeless guy, maybe even humanity itself. "You just have a negative attitude, I don't have anything in common with you." Like he's undeserving of the same existence as himself. Don't mean to rant it's just you know its art when it makes you think. The director/writer had something to say.

I remember an interesting interview, in which a psychopath explained he assumed everyone was faking emotions, emulating empathy and acting out appropriate responses, until they reached a certain age in childhood and realised everyone else was actually doing it for real. I think the chap being interviewed said his epiphany was around the 8 or 9 years old mark.

the thing is - the book is pretty horrific. By that I mean especially how detailed the torture/death/cannibalism scenes are described, as well as Bateman's descent into madness. It's all very nightmare-ish, and, at least to me, something really hard to read through. However, the movie apperently does focus more on the ironic, sarcastic, dark-comedy aspects of the story (I havent seen it yet but that's what seems to be the case), which I much prefere, to be honest. I feel like the book could have achieved in me the same level of "hatred with a small amout of sympathy"I felt towards Bateman without having to make me read several highly disturbing and disgusting pages describing down to the smallest detail what he did to his victims. Besides, I feel like the main focus of the story was the criticism the author was trying to make towards that society, and the gore porn at least in my opinion, took away from that.

6:57 The guy casually puts reindeer ears on Bateman. This movie is actually hilarious.
@JohannRosario1
@JohannRosario1 2 жыл бұрын
The amazing thing about this moment is that putting reindeer antlers on him was a capital offense of such great magnitude, that Bateman simply pretended that it did not happen because of where he was. A normal person would have gone "Oh! Ok, thanks" and maybe taken them off.

banks, consultants, and salesmen are almost always given VP status in name alone. If you’re a customer organization and a VP is talking to you you’re more likely to respect them so it’s in a firm’s best interest to have as many VPs as possible.

@@Pharoah2 That's right. I was in this world when everyone being a VP became a thing. Once EVERYBODY was a VP the advantage was lost, and the next phase was that everyone started getting called "Managing Director".
