It's why I love this movie and his character. It's like he's making it so obvious and sticks out like a sore thumb, but due to how trash society is, especially rich elite capitalist wall st. etc circles, nobody notices he is 'utterly insane', because so is society. The irony being that Patrick tries so hard to fit into American ideals, he doesn't realize he fits in perfectly - a complete psychopath.

Kenneth Bryant yeah the author of the book says it’s a dark comedy. The killings in the movie always get it classified as “thriller” or “horror”.
@liaspooked49805 жыл бұрын
the thing is - the book is pretty horrific. By that I mean especially how detailed the torture/death/cannibalism scenes are described, as well as Bateman's descent into madness. It's all very nightmare-ish, and, at least to me, something really hard to read through. However, the movie apperently does focus more on the ironic, sarcastic, dark-comedy aspects of the story (I havent seen it yet but that's what seems to be the case), which I much prefere, to be honest. I feel like the book could have achieved in me the same level of "hatred with a small amout of sympathy"I felt towards Bateman without having to make me read several highly disturbing and disgusting pages describing down to the smallest detail what he did to his victims. Besides, I feel like the main focus of the story was the criticism the author was trying to make towards that society, and the gore porn at least in my opinion, took away from that.
