Extraordinary playing. Some of these pieces are incredibly difficult to play ( I know because I had to learn them). What is most extraordinary here is the music itself. Bach was such incredible genius: he was truly the progenitor of harmony as Beethoven called him. His music is more than just beauty and awe; its a transcending experience in it of itself.

@@melwig2813 When Mozart discovered Bach's music, he said "Finally, something I can learn from." Mozart was also known to have called Bach the "Father of music," and was so intrigued by his fugue style, that he wrote his own set of fugues in the style of Bach. He is also known to play Bach's music to warm up sometimes. You can find accounts of many of the greats that followed Bach in which they revered Bach. Literally all of them: Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, to name a few. They were all geniuses in their own regard, but Bach paved the way for them all. He was truly the Father of music.

@@melwig2813 Exactly! Mozart studied Bach since childhood (WTC, Goldbergs, etc). He was student under Bach's sons CPE and JC and made very clear in his very own words that they showed him the way. Mozart literally owes his entire career to the Bach family. Mozart knew he was a wunderkind but he would never have dared to even consider the thought of himself to be anywhere close to the genius of father Bach. Mozart wasn't stupid.

It has a warmth and a richness I’ve never heard before, but enough brightness so as not to become dull. Credit to Lieske, too. A guitar can only sound as good as its player allows it to, and Lieske really shows his experience by getting the absolute most out of that beautiful instrument.

If one dares to say it, Raphaël Feuillâtre has given us a performance of the Partita #2 that seems to embody a near-Brazilian (Jobim?) sensibility in early passages, & a more recent "reincarnation" of Django Reinhardt (!) thereafter, without in the slightest diluting the authentic force, or intelligence, of the Master. Faultless technique, 2nd-nature already despite his youth, seems to allow him, and us, an original interpretation carried by intense, but disciplined feeling. The seasoned 1931 instrument also seems, in a sense, culturally wedded to this unusual performance: rich in depth, bell-like in projection, as if it always wanted to be played this way. Damned amazing; thanks to all.

@@GaZonk100 I spent, literally, years of my spare time with a cheap but very pleasant classical guitar trying to play the prelude from the first cello suite but was never good enough to dare to play it to anyone else... In spite of my failure, the experience and the beauty of the music and the odd correct phrase drove me on - and it was time well spent. Thank you to these beautiful young musicians here and to Siccas Guitars

In my school years we were struggling to get any of these recordings to hear what a "serious" classical guitar playing sounds like, we were exchanging poor quality tapes just to get a bit more motivated for our guitar practice :) now we can enjoy many of these fabulous performances

Having now listened to this compendium many times straight through, it is no exaggeration to say that each guitarist, most unknown to me previously, deserves his/her own critique (time allowing) - & really, highly complimentary to each. Wouldn't it also be sweet to own all the fine guitars? Thanks to all.

@@carlosandres7006 I respectfully believe that you don't know anything about Bach's God, because He not only gave him the ability to compose, but also to suffer as a Christian in this world for a little time, to enjoy forever in the heavenly kingdom.

Thank you for putting this together. I grew up with classical guitar music playing all the time, but was not huge fan. Now I am, and this video introduced me to some new pieces by Bach (my favorite composer on stringed instruments, Tchaikovsky for orchestra) as well as some old familiar ones. Bravo to all the players, but especially Ms Caballero and and Mr. Kocic for playing those fiendishly difficult pieces.
