I think coach Hines is meant to be enjoyed in small doses, cause he goes from 0-10 over nothing and then stays at 10. I don't think anyone can do that through a whole movie. He is not very multi dimensional, he is just disproportionately angry all the time. I think Keegan's mom was a teacher, so he has extra insight for Coach Hines.
