It’s because it’s relatable. Not everyone can relate to every weird, screwed up event that happens in these movies, so even though the plot is good/funny it’s not the part most will connect to. Not everyone has this sort of crazy nonsense happen in their lives, but pretty much everyone that has a family has a Cousin Eddie, and even those that unfortunately don’t have a family probably still know a Cousin Eddie.
