One small detail i loved: after the headbutt from the scene starting at 14:30, at 15:45 you can see Dexter precisely placing himself near the desk, then purposefully hitting his head on the corner to hide the fact that he hit Doakes 10 seconds prior. This instantly removes all doubt as to who was the aggressor in this scenario. No medical exam or otherwise would reveal that the injury to Dexter's head was caused from a headbutt.

Doakes had spent his career steamrolling over everyone in his way. So finally when he comes up against Dexter, who isn’t intimidated or moved, Doakes gets suspicious. Dexter just happens to also be a murderer. But I have a feeling that Doakes would be this much of an asshole to anyone who didn’t fawn over him or act similar to Dexter.

Eric King (Doakes) is such a phenomenal actor & played his character to perfection, he managed to be cause chaos for Dexter & be hilarious at the same time, I loved every scene he was in & sadly his obsessiveness to Dexter was the reason he got killed, Hopefully we get more flashbacks with (Micheal C Hall) Dexter & Doakes (Eric King) in the new spin off as if Better call Saul can pull it off to perfection, this series can do it too even if we see Micheal Wearing A Wig like he did playing a younger Dexter in first few seasons 🤩

In one scene (at about 14:30) where Doakes smiles. It's the same smile as Dexter. That got me noticing that a lot of the shots after that show Doakes as Dexter's mirror, or another self. The lighting, camera angles,and such were usually used only on Dexter.
@boomer20957 ай бұрын
I remember binge watching Dexter, Suits and Breaking Bad during covid, and they all had the same thing in common, they all started out with a 3 season premise, but ended up becoming huge hits, and they all had to make adjustments to the shows to allow them to continue. The actor who played Dokes was a great actor, and was in fantastic shape. Unfortunately the “Will Dokes catch Dexter” or “Will Mike be found out” story lines could only last a couple seasons, and they had to make changes to keep moving forward. Breaking Bad kept Jessie when he was supposed to have been killed off, and brought in Gus Fring to advance the story.

Everyone always says Doakes was always right about Dexter. But truth is that both Dexter and Doakes were right about eachother, Dexter was actually less delusional about who he was than Doakes was about himself. They were both killers, Doakes thought he was more justified and clearly had an ego bigger than his own head. Dexter lied to everyone else but never to himself. Their final conversation, in unspoken words, was them finally finding a brief moment of respecting eachother. Doakes respected Dexter for wanting to turn himself and finally face the consequences. Dexter respected Doakes for doing his job and wanting to bring killers to justice. But the show couldn’t end there. It had 7 more seasons to go, so Lila had to step in and fuck things up
@happilyevernever428917 күн бұрын
Doakes wasn't respecting Dexter lol. As you said his ego is bigger in terms of feeling righteous and he's lying to himself. He prolly thinks it's fine killing on the job and making it seem like he had to. And as long as he knows about it, he doesn't feel guilty. But I'm not gonna say Dexter is any better. Coz he does cross more lines than Doakes. He premeditates his killings, chops em up. He also has a need to kill compared to Doakes. So whatever moral code he has is questionable coz the moment you take away some of the variables, Dexter starts acting like some of the criminals he kills.
@amartyaroy37547 ай бұрын
Doakes was smart and even understanding too a point but his emotions got the best of him. He was able to figure out Dexter's code while captive and knew he doesn't satisfy it.

I wanted Doakes in it for longer or least not die off and he could've returned later. His back story was interesting and the fact he could see through Dexter's mask, it always left me wondering what deep and dark secret Doakes was hiding that allowed him to see through it. Although I found it humorous that he was stalking Dexter, I didn't like that Doakes just didn't have an end plan other than to try and catch Dexter double parked or happen to catch Dexter by accident. They could've worked it so Dexter and Doakes HAD to work together after knowing reaches secret and they come to an appreciation of sorts rather than opponents.
