Hey Guys. Siv here. This is Best Of #15 from me. This one was a good break after working on the Best Of Disco Elysium. I focused more on the Slayer Gates and mini-bosses but also kept some funnies in there for flavour. Left out the lore readings, but added of the thoughts Woolie and Reggie had on the story here and there. Cheers, and see you in the next Best Of!

Hey, question, why did you decide to leave in the parts where Woolie complained about having to sign into Bethesda net? That whole thing was the cause of a bug that was fixed in a day one patch that Woolie refused to download for no reason. It really makes the beginning of this compilation incredibly frustrating to watch and makes Woolie like a complete idiot tbh. I think it was a bad idea to not cut it out.

55:00 I have to say that this fight really illustrates one of the few criticisms of Doom Eternal, and it really does break the flow of the game. What’s Woolie’s main problem? Recharging his blood punch and recovering health. Why is this a problem? Because both require “glory kills” which means damaging an enemy juuuuuuusttt enough to ALMOST kill it, and then close to melee. It’s a big problem for Woolie because he’s *too strong,* and kills the enemies to quickly, which means he needs to hesitate, to measure his shots and be careful. Now put all those factors together in regards to the Doom Slayer. Damaging an enemy WITHOUT killing it. Being TOO STRONG. Killing enemies TOO FAST. HESITATE. BE CAREFUL. How much of that sounds like it should apply to the Doom Slayer in ANY capacity? Yeah, exactly NONE of it. It’s a little bit flow-breaking to be honest, needing to scramble away from a big nasty fucker in order to carefully prune from the swarm of little shits that keep spawning in without end, until you can do actual damage to the big bad bastard.

They're both really well done games but fuck, Ultrakill is just funner to play, more stylistically up my alley, and doesn't have a superior previous iteration that I'm constantly comparing it to much to my disappointment. Also fuck Eternal's DLCs.

Neat game, but I really hate the insistence on holding your hand to such a ridiculous degree. The ultra-detailed map, giving you a full blown tutorial on how to use each new weapon, filling the screen with tips and info, and just refusing to permit you to figure anything out on your own. It doesn't seem fitting for a big boy not for babies game to cling to your hand with such great force.

I recently picked up Doom 2016 again, and I was reminded how much I don't like the glory kill mechanic. I end up over-killing staggered enemies, especially the heavy hitters like Revenants/ Hell Knights/Mancubi. The game makes me feel bad for doing that by giving only a few pips of health back without glory kills.
