Considering the disruption caused by the pandemic it's been an OK year for all things Essential RC. We would have liked to have done more but having put this compilation together I've realised that our enthusiasm for all things RC kept the channel going. Thanks to Jason, James, Carl and Al for making our chose hobby fun.

I must disagree, friend. I can't remember it exactly, but there's a saying about boat captains that goes something like "a good boat captain will never show you how good he is because he never gets into situations which require him to show you how good he is"

@@Dani2wheels Lol.. Well, I agree with that genius and very true comment when it comes to real boats. Just like full-scale licensed pilots flying real airplanes. But RC is a different game. Even the best pilots sometimes crash. Peace.

OK, I think I'll continue flying my Gripen without thrust vectoring.

If you leave enough height for recovery from flat spins and don't try to hover the thrust vectoring is fine. What you see in that vid are the small number of crashes I had. It's a good upgrade if you are smart with it...but it does add risk.

I'm curious, if anyone wishes to respond: do all of the RC models that are able to "stand" on their tails have vectored thrust?

In my experience, yes. They need VT to sustain a hover. Only takes very slight wind to de-stabilise them.

That helicopter with the water bucket!! Pretty damn cool,but some things just don't scale very good! The minor control inputs that a 1\1 chopper pilot can use are just not there scaled down,plus the fact that to scale,the rc helicopter is spinning way more rpms and the downwash is way way higher speed than full sized. It's like scale rc ships never move right on the water.No matter how perfectly to scale they're built,the weight and displacement can never be built to scale.

I think most of the crashes are due to mechanical problems like a servo failing at the worst possible time causing a control surface to stick in the wrong position or a glitch in the radio causing a unwanted maneuver that pilot can’t regain control not always pilot error

If you're talking about the Chris Golds Concorde....that project is still ongoing. First attempt at flight wasn't successful. A retract pulled out.
