I may be overthinking but I think she meant that, as a lowly pickpocketer, you shouldn't go after your stolen goods if they get stolen from you. That might mean that: A: the victim knew you stole it and took it back. B: the thing was already stolen more than once C: the thing might be important enough to someone important.
