I love how he precariously pivots between coherent and -senile- alcoholic psychosis at a moment's notice. It's so smooth, in fact, that it's sometimes hard to tell when he's genuinely being sarcastic or when he's lost it. But, that's why we love him!

Shows called "the critic" it used to air back in 95 or 96. I know it aired around the same time as The Simpsons and did better than them for a short time sadly the show lasted 26 episodes. You can watch all the episodes on digital tv.

@@one-bell Right, the style gets more refined and the show looks different the longer it's on the air, that's common for any long running cartoon; what's different about The Critic is they redesigned the characters completely for season 2 because the network thought the original designs were too off-putting. The characters have a much "softer" look to them and bigger eyes in season 2, also other things like completely changing the look of Jay's apartment.

​​@@leitmotif1234 In fact it seems like the characters in season 1 are "The Manga version" and the characters in season 2 are "The Anime version", the characters even look more chibi in season 2 with those eyes and they even feel smaller than in their version in season 1.

During the alternate commentary track, either Al Jean or Mike Reiss said that Gerrit Graham while recording his lines would have a glass of scotch or something similar. Just shows the attention to detail they had.

As much as I love the show, I think it should die a hero. Putting aside the fact that several of the actors have since retured or passed away, I don't think we could replicate the original charm if we tried.

It's amazing how often, 30 years later, I still use some of Franklin's quotes. Either 5:54 or 6:01 - When I'm walking around the house without pants on 1:41 - When I screw up something but know it's fixable 5:36 - When I see a hard collision 2:49 - When I destroy something with force 4:06 - When I am placed in a position of leadership 12:50 - Pretty much anytime I encounter anything involving a penguin And so on.
