Looking back at this game, the story really does come off as a badly written self-insert fanfiction. Newly made OC joins the resistance group of Sonic's friends as a rookie recruit, goes on plot essential missions to save Sonic, quickly outperforms everyone by getting shit done while everyone else has been sitting on their hands "waiting for a miracle", fights along Sonic as their quickly appointed best friend (even though the two have known each other for all of 10 minutes), and saves the world and all the Sonic characters thanks to a deus ex machina.

See that's the different, BRB put ALL the effort into Boom, it was the lack of communication from SEGA, when the contract was signed, they were led to believe that the game would be on the better consoles, Xbox One and PS4, hence why they used the Cry Engine, an engine they were all too familiar with, and when they were far into their build, SEGA only then told them that the game will be a Wii U exclusive prior to a contract made with Nintendo with the next three Sonic games being Nintendo Exclusive (Sonic Lost World, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi Winter Olympic Games, and Sonic Boom). It's argued that Sonic Synergy is what they had until the sudden contract announcement, the problems arose when they found out that the Cry Engine doesn't work with the Wii U, because the creators of the engine either didn't sign a contract with Nintendo, or didn't like how Underpowered the Wii U was, then compared to the future Xbox One and PS4 (As they get the Dev Kits way before the consoles launch). So Bigredbutton was essentially trying to force an engine to work for the Wii U, and they couldn't just say no, because they were under a Legal Contract with SEGA, and trying to contact Nintendo was nigh-on impossible with the lack-of communication, and long wait periods due to translation and such. People always go to blame Bigredbutton, but what Sonic Boom was, the version we have, was them trying their hardest to make two things work, it's like trying to make two North End Magnets stick to each other, it just won't work. As someone who's studying Game Development, it's seriously no small feat, plus it didn't help that they were under serious strict time limits given to them by SEGA

It's just Sonic Teams' explanation of why the 3D Sonic looks so different than OG Sonic. Probably. I don't know everything and honestly, I couldn't give 2 shits about Sonic the Hedgehog. I'm just trying to offer up an explanation. I'm not 100% certain that it's correct. What about all the different 3D games that conflict with one another, like Shadow the Hedgehog. They never bring that up.

This isn't told in the English version, but classic sonic branched into a new timeline (dimension) where he encountered the time eater at a younger age then modern sonic, who encountered time eater at (i think) age 16.

I really like how much they, particularly Arin, enjoyed this game. Sure it was super short and classic Sonic felt totally shoehorned in, but it's still enjoyable, it's just the completely fractured fanbase that will never be satisfied with anything anymore.

DAREL slama/slam! a! game To answer your question... no I haven’t. I’m just going off what I’ve heard from the majority. I’m not saying it’s bad personally. I actually bought the game on my switch yesterday so I could have an opinion on it. Who knows I might like it. EDIT: What I meant by “I don’t like it” I meant from what seen and heard, it just doesn’t look interesting in the slightest for me. I bought at a discount price because I knew this game isn’t even worth 40$. Again I might like it afterwards but one thing that I am not changing my thoughts are the story because holy crap it’s absolutely shit. I’ve never seen such disregard from character consistency and lore consistency in any game. I don’t like Sonic as much as I used to and it still pisses me off. Tails being a baby towards Chaos 0 even though he’s beaten Chaos 4, a WAY MORE stronger form, Lack of clarity on what the Phantom Ruby does, Literally NO ONE does anything meaningful because Sonic is apparently Jesus in this universe when other characters can do the same things, if not better than Sonic, And by far the absolute dumbest thing I’ve ever heard in any game ever: “You’re that Sonic from another dimension, aren’t you?” *Face palm* I’m shaking my head. It would have been so, stupidly easy to say he was from the past. In the sonic mania true final boss, you can see the phantom ruby affecting the timer, meaning it can fuck with time. So why not keep classic Sonic from the past? It makes NO SENSE. I don’t care what this game tells me, he is still past Sonic. There’s also the fact that if that’s the case, how does modern Sonic know what green hill is if the the time he first found it was in the past? I feel SEGA and Sonic Team’s disregard for consistency for anything pertaining to Sonic is a big factor as to why I don’t like this series as much as I used to, and I know this isn’t the first time they’ve done this but this... is just insulting.
