People forget that at the same time that this show aired there was another show on a different network "somewhat" comparable with Psych as far as it had a similar interracial male best friends duo (J.D and, Turk from "Scrubs".) Looking back on it. Even though scrubs was more popular because it was on a bigger network which meant JD and Turk are more known. I feel like Gus and Shawn's relationship came off as more authentic on screen.

Also I felt like Gus was a more relatable Black person. And I have no idea why. I’ve watched both shows, every single episode. But Gus just…seems like a more realistic black guy 😂. Albeit nerdy black guy 🤷🏽‍♀️.

@sammiepittman3130 I agree. I think it's because on Scrubs Turk was a character that just happened to be black. Whereas on Psych Gus being black was woven into the character. One show embraced that he was African American without overdoing it, while the other show completely ignored that their character was African American. Turk was a generic character that any racial or ethnic group could play, whereas Gus was a character only an African American could play.
