I miss the wooden ramps my father built. They were to stay in the garage when not in use but I had to put them outside for the house/garage to be worked on and never got to put them back in and they rotted away. I worked in many gas stations where jacking up a car onto floor jacks by hand was standard operating procedure, in one place we had 12 bays and only 2 floor lifts that were kept open for quick oil changes. The rest were all on floor jacks. Many of the older center post lifts don’t allow access to the central area under the car, which is where the mechanical parts of the car are located.

Many people assume lifting up a car and having it rest on four jack stands is ok - me included - until I looked at Project Farm's jack stand video kzbin.info/www/bejne/nondpqawlMqIr5o 1. In reality, four adjustable jack stands are not holding up the whole car. Just the teeth of the jack. The teeth are the weak point. 2. When the " thousands pound" car is suspended in the air on four jack stands, lateral force can make the jack stands tip easily. I like this option at 8:28
