Here's the best of our favourite set of nemesis, Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) vs. literal ninth grader Kaylie Hooper (Chloe Grace Moretz).
30 Rock revolves around the cast and crew of the fictional sketch comedy series TGS with Tracy Jordan, which is filmed in Studio 6H inside 30 Rockefeller Plaza. The series stars Tina Fey as Liz Lemon, the hapless head writer of The Girly Show, alongside Alec Baldwin as Jack Donaghy, Liz's long-suffering mentor. Who would have thought it might be rather important to have both talented actors and writers to make a successful show? Tina Fey is the one genius I guess who realized hiring talented actors would be necessary to deliver competently the writing of the show. She was so brilliant she even decided to act in her own show.

I once met Chloe Grace when I was working at a movie theater. She called the theater cos she left her ID there, her caller ID even said “Chloe Grace”. When she came in to collect her ID later, she was the nicest, normal, unassuming person. I adored her in 30 Rock, but meeting her for real and how down to earth she is makes me admire her anymore.

@@jim2lane I get the feeling you're intentionally leaving out visual gags in your definition of 'jokes', or else you just haven't seen Airplane! in a long time. What you call the 'dense comedy' genre is already called Rapid-Fire, or Shotgun comedy and it has been around for a very long time. Airplane!... Hot Shots!... fucking Clue, even, might be the Gold Standards, but it's existed long before even the Marx Brothers and Abbot & Costello. 30 Rock itself (while excellent) isn't exactly unique either. Thematically, it's one example of what's called a Screwball Comedy. What's more, it's basically a modern take on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. The show is genius, no doubt. But it's not much more than a self-aware lampoon.

I've seen all of those you mentioned, and BTW, if you mention Airplane! you also need to mention Police Squad 😉 Nevertheless, I find the delivery on 3R unique, compared to most. There is a punchline, and then an immediate follow-up that's often funnier than the original punchline. Haven't really seen it quite the same on TV, though now that you mention it, it is reminiscent of the Marx Brothers 🙂
