I love her. The main reason is because she’s so different. She’s a joy to watch. I’ve seen others and they perform beautifully as well. They perform as expected. Misty brings athleticism and a different body to this art. For lack of a better way of putting it, she’s solid, not a wet noodle, not waif thin, not see through. She’s unique. Thank you Misty Copeland

@Laura Streeter wait what? Isn't Polina Semionova considered a technique perfect prodigy principal dancer from ABT? She was first promoted to a principal in Berlin at age 18. Do you not consider her to be equal or better than Gillian Murphy? Btw I'm not a huge fan of Polina's I think she's a bit overrated but she is supposedly a prodigy since she got promoted to a principal almost immediately after major international competitions, and the reviews about her were raving through the roofs, about how she pours emotions from her body like noone can. I did see her live at Roberto and Friends gala in 2014 (was disappointed however that Svetlana Zakharova wasn't among the invited) so I was just wondering your opinion about her. I did notice however that nobody seems to talk about her anymore. but she was such a big hit around that time.

Final performance has a time stamp of 1986. If Misty Copeland is 38 years old in 2021, she was three years old for this 1986 performance. Do you think maybe that could be some other dancer in that final jazz ballet performance? If this is the three year old Misty Copeland this is some impressive dancing.

I love watching Misty Copeland, it's clear she is talented, and exceptionally trained, and deserves to be where she is at. Unfortunately for those who are vehemently opposing her, they are blinded. Nobody wants to hear such ignorant and political drivel just because she's "different" from the rest. As a woman and dance fanatic, Copeland's figure is far more pleasing to the eye than the usual ethereal mumbo jumbo that looks freakish at best. Nobody has a monopoly on art, so go Misty, more power to her!

The more I get to know about different styles of ballet and ballet techniques, I am more able to see that Misty Copeland might have been trained in the Balanchine style. In fact, the ways she moved, her quick movements of her feet, and her fingers all look very Balanchine! Balanchine style is just very different from the Vaganova style.

@Laura Streeter Exactly. I've said it before and I will say it again, if she was white and that body with that technique, she would NEVER be a principal dancer. Never. She was a diversity promotion and frankly it's unfair because she's misleading young black girls into thinking she's good enough. It's nice that they have her as a role model but there are better black ballerinas out there right now and she is not on the level of the black ballerinas before her like Virginia Johnson and Aesha Ash. There are two black females currently at ABT in lower rankings, they both have way better technique than Misty and actually look like ballerinas. There isn't much footage of Aesha, but she was with NYCB and was Zoe Saldana's double for Center Stage. She handles that Wheeldon choreography like a purebred champion, gives me chills every time I see those pique turns.

@@Catulli00 BS. Her body type naturally builds muscles. you don't need a specific body type (other than weight) to be a good ballerina. Her technique is is ballet technique. what else could it be. You probably can't even name the various different techniques in ballet off the top of your head.
@justmejustme7898
@justmejustme7898 2 жыл бұрын
@@who511 it is not about the muscles or her body type. She lacks musicality, technique and feeling. She uses ballet techniques but her execution is lacking and some aren't in her skill set at all. Which is kinda embarrassing if you are a principal dancer. If she was a young, lower ranked dancer, ok. Younger dancers are still on their way, can perfect their skills and work on their artistry. But if you watch a principal dancer and what you see can hardly considered dancing... Something is off. She is able to somehow finish the piece. But there are so many better dancers in her company that rank lower than her. Most graduates have a cleaner technique and more spirit while dancing...
