In driver's Ed in the nineties in North Carolina, the "good road state." I was taught that a two lane highway has a "traveling" lane and a "merging" lane. It sure makes sense to me. Apparently it's different most other places.

If there’s truly nowhere to go and they passed you with hardly any gain at all, then why chase them down and exclaim “can we not?” She didn’t have to do anything. I’ll use Lubbock as an example because that’s the closest city to me: If I want to exit from eastbound South Loop 289 and make a right to head southbound on University Avenue, I would have to exit at Indiana Avenue (the exit before), sit through that stop light, and then drive a mile on the frontage road to not have to merge across the entire frontage road to make that right. People local to the area know this already, and the smartest of people will do it during rush hour. But what about the folks who aren’t from around the area wanting to make that same turn? Every bit of signage suggests that they should exit at University Avenue and cut across 3 lanes of traffic within a couple hundred feet max (I haven’t measured but it’s super close). The thing is though, the person behind the truck also did the “wrong” thing and attempted to jump across the frontage road. Their maneuver is just as illegal as the cam truck. That car also exited. Again, that’s why I say the other car should have stayed behind the truck. People already on the frontage road expect this sort of thing. Jumping across might be illegal, maybe, but it’s expected. No one expects the vehicle exiting behind them to try and speed up and cut around them on these roads. This whole thing could be avoided though if TxDot gave us longer approach distances between the ramp and the intersection.

Good observation. I don't know about all of them but my friend has one of those new cars and as soon as the fob gets a certain distance from the car it automatically locks. Never noticed if the lights flicker when it autolocks. I'll have to check it out. Either way, whether the car was locked or not, I would have hit the unlock button on the way back to the car just to make sure there wasn't even a second more of a delay. Which would explain the lights flickering once. And approaching someone that's honking behind you to explain is a deadly proposition these days. More so if you're elderly.

Just like it’s illegal go over 70 on the freeway however when your passing you have to do it quickly and go 15 or even 20 mph over the speed limit

I don't know how you handle it in American traffic courts, but in Germany you get contributory negligence if another vehicle intentionally fails to merge into a gap in traffic, even if that driver is in the wrong. Courts always ask whether you could have avoided the accident and I can't understand people who speed up in such a situation and make things worse.

6. the left lane is for passing or preparing to turn left. if you are in the left lane and not doing the above then you are in the wrong. 7. i don't know what kind of permit allows you to tailgate. by no means are you a pro driver. allow a 3 second interval between you and the vehicle in front of you to avoid tailgating. if you don't know how to figure that interval, pick a spot on the road or a sign (i use signs). when the back of their vehicle reaches the point you chose, start counting one one thousand, two one thousand, three one thousand. if you don't reach the 3rd one thousand you are too close.
