@Dr.W.KruegerАй бұрын
Thunderbirds was successful in Japan...for a foreign show. The style of these Gerry Anderson shows definitely influenced the mechanical designs in some 60s and 70s Japanese productions. So maybe it is some kind of meta reference...or the (American) lead artist / storyboard artist had no idea that Thunderbirds was a British show? Now I'm also confused.

I listend to Conan O Brien and some of the producers doing commentary on the (I think) monorail episode. One of the producers proudly spoke how they actively decided to make Homer smarter around season 9/10 and boasted about how ratings went up lol. Mission accomplished I guess 😓

Can anyone explain whether the part where Homer is dialing Hokkaido, Japan (@ 9:58) is mimicking a scene from something? I was always curious about that. Thanks!
@reptarDISCO5 ай бұрын
No, the joke is that he told the clerk that he was dialing a local number when he clearly wasn't. Local number would only require 7 digits. Out of country phone numbers are longer since you need to dial the country code and exit code as well
@K12machinima5 ай бұрын
Also, not only what Disco said, but back in the day, there was a lot of policies in places with pay phones NOT to dial long-distance numbers, because the bill would be fronted to the building, and a long-distance call wasn’t cheap.
@Spanner2494 ай бұрын
That was a 50 dollar phone call back in the day, he’s waiting for the Librarian to leave.

I always thought the joke was that Homer was so obvious about dialing Hokkaido, that the librarian just said "Yeah, I'm not taking the blame for this" and ran away to clock out early.

@@reptarDISCOOne thing I don’t get. Homer asks for a phone book for Hokkaido. Why does the librarian ask him if it’s going to be a local call? Wasn’t it obvious that it wasn’t going to be one?
