Best of Shama Rahaman | Rabindra Sangeet | Bengali Songs of Tagore

Shama Rahman is a great exponent of Rabindra Sangeet and Bengali songs. Rabindra Sangeet or Tagore Songs has been the biggest pillar for the Bengali culture. Shama Rahman is one of the leading contemporary Tagore artists. She has carved a place through her devotion to her medium, with her soft lilting voice. Her deep understanding of Tagore’s lyrics and tunes has won her fans at home and abroad. Shama Rahman is greatly inspired by all the categories of compositions in Rabindranath’s Geetabitan. Especially the compositions like Pooja and Barsha inspired her a lot.
Shama Rahman began training in this genre from an early age. Her initial training was at home under the supervision of late Ustad Fazlul Huq with classical music. Later, she studied music at Chhayanat for two years. Finally she was a student at the Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts (BAFA) under late Atiqul Islam for five years. Rahman has brought out fourteen albums still now, under the umbrella of the Bengal Foundation. United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organizaion (UNESCO) Paris, has brought out five Rabindra Sangeet albums of Shama Rahman in 2011, to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore.
This compilation album “Godhuligaganey Meghe Dhekechhilo Tara” is a collection of Rabindra Sangeet sung by Shama Rahman. Her melodious rendition of these classic Tagore Songs are simply brilliant. Almost all the songs compiled in this collection are popular Tagore numbers. Her soft lilting voice makes these renditions unique. Especially the songs like “Godhuli Gaganey Meghey” and “Pagla Haoyar Badal” deserve special mention.

এমন নিখুঁত, সাবলীল,প্রথামাফিক,শুদ্ধ সুরে আবেগে, রবীন্দ্র ভাবে গাওয়া রবীন্দ্রনাথের গান অনেক দিন শুনি নি।সেই কবে সুচিত্রা মিত্র,কণিকা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়,সুমিত্রা সেন,নিলীমা সেন,পূর্বা দাম এই মহতী শিল্পীদের অনেকটা কাছা কাছি গায়কি,সুন্দর উচ্চারন,মুগ্ধ করে বারবার যত শুনি তত মায়ায় আবদ্ধ হয়ে পড়ি।দীর্ঘায়ু ও অনেক সাফল্য কামনা করি মাননীয়া শিল্পীর।কবি পক্ষে এই গান মন ভরিয়ে দিলো, কবিগুরুতে আবিষ্ট হয়ে পড়েছি।
