When I watched ballet in TV, it was (almost) always Svetlana Zakharova. I love her in Swan Lake very much and also in Sleeping Beauty, but especially in La Fille du pharaon. And Svetlana Zakharova was also dancing in the opening (and I think also closure) of the Winter Olympic games in Sotschi. A honor she truely deserved!

Watching this fabulous dancer, I again wonder how people can say that one dancer is “THE BEST” when every prima ballerina dances at the same high level and brings something so brilliant, individual, so intrinsically _hers_ to every role that there’s really no need to choose one! Have favorites, of course, but more than that is just subjective nonsense!

I think it’s because Svetlana has a very rare purity of essence onstage and people admire it. It’s not just her skill. It’s the way she stands behind the dance. It shows great understanding of what it means to be a human being. She’s not a hog onstage.

Let me just start by saying this--I have said many times before in a lot of my other comments that the greatest ballet dancer of any era will always be a Russian. They just do dominate the sport hands-down. Second, I have said many times that I believe Natalia Makarova to be the greatest ever to dance ballet at all. She just had... everything. Now I wondered if anyone else would ever be on the same mantle. But... I think Svetlana herself has surpassed even Natalia. She's even better... Her body, her technique, her... way... Natalia upstaged all her partners, even Baryshnikov. Is... any man fit to share the stage with Svetlana?

One thing I've noticed is that when Svetlana is dancing, her supporting dancers don't...at all. They are motionless statues barely breathing to not move. This may be her signature or a recent trend in ballet, but it's vastly different than the days of Yekaterina Maximova, for example. Everyone was a mesmerizing splash of motion.

It's curious cause we first wrote "russian", but someone commented that she was ukrainian by born (and that was effectively true) so we changed. @@DanceLineBallet Thank you!!! You know - it alwais was in history the same people Nord-South- very well mixed till recent events.! A lot of people from Ukraine leave in Russia and vise versa. The same with Svetlana! Nobody thought about this separatin between Russia and Ukraine at her childhood! She was russian lived in Ukraine (her father was a millitary man, moved a lot and the parent"s family lived in Russia. She"s not Zakharchuk, or Zakharenko - ukranien names... but ZakharOVA... russian... So she spent her early years in Ukraine and went to the ballet school in Kiev till she was 15 years old. And them she moved to Russia and became a Russian Prima ballerine. But now the policy and propagande destroys this Harmonie between the same people. The globalisation"s goal - Separate to dominate!). Russian... Ukrainien...brothers abd sisters! So... It"s very, very sad and became painfull! Your decision is right! (I"m personally Ukranien but I hate this separation). I love every good people, Art and Peace! Thank you again!
