The first three sound really interesting; I might just check them out! I just wish I’d seen the Primal Hunter on here. It’s the first I’ve read of the genre and I enjoy it a lot.

I know he liked Primal Hunter a lot. The elimination of 24 books to focus on 6 was a bit of an unfair comparison. Just a teaser to get more people to watch our videos :-)

He who fights with monsters and defiance of the fall are great. They both have a Westernized version of Chinese Fantasy cultivation magic. Defiance starts to drag and be very same-y later on, and MC is cardboard. He who fights monsters arc on Earth not my fave, and Jason starts to break. Recommend Will Wight Cradle series, which just completed few months ago. Very cool Americanized cultivation system. After book 2 series takes off like a rocket!

I thought the earth arc was fine, what did become too much for me was MCs tiredless emo behaviour.. I'm all for actions having mental consequences, but I don't want to continiously read through several books.. Otherwise I do enjoy He who fights with monsters.. Defiance of the fall is interesting as it's the product of the author deliberately going into it wanting to make money the chinese way, the first couple of books are really interesting I think, after that it just becomes another cultivation story with bloat and nonsensical philosophy/cultivation descriptions.. It's the opposite of what I look for in western web novels, I like my stories as passion projects that become a business, not the other way around.

I have been reading Defiance of the Fall as well and am fairly deep into the series. I have what I think are similar complaints. In DotF you start to lose a sense of direction or destination. Simply get stronger, kill new things, and discover new things. I think some of these authors would do well to have a definite end to the series. Defiance of the fall for example had a clear end in the middle of book 7 (I think it was this book) as most of the story arcs had been resolved. Since then it has simply been drifting about with Zack as he gets stronger.

I feel pretty much the same. I stopped reading He who fights with monsters after book 7. The MC just got to preachy about his morals. I do agree that the earth arc was a downward turn for this series. I read book 1 of DotF and just couldn’t get into it due to the MC having the personality of cardboard. For me the Primal Hunter series is very similar and is more my taste than DotF. Cradle had me hooked from the beginning and is a great series. The goat though is Dungeon Crawler Carl. Hands down the best.

He who fights with monsters also lost me in the earth arc. Jason just got insufferable at a certain point, and, as I love world building, having things set on just modern earth for so long totally lost me. Dungeon crawler carl kinda lost me eventually in the same way. Carl’s moral superiority combined with constant quick-fire joke writing just kinda plateaus. To me, the wandering inn still reigns supreme. Pirateaba is a genius.

FWIW, I've read dozens of different LitRPG/Prog. Fantasy series, and Cradle is one that really didn't work for me at all. It had the worst case of Lensman Arms Race I've seen since Children of the Lens. (To be fair, I truly loved the Lensman series when I was a teen, but it's not a series I can go back to; I'm not that reader anymore.)

First time seeing this channel, but of the litrpg ive read, they havent reviewed any yet. Current #1 is "All the Dust that Falls" by zaifyr. Most unique characters and immersion

scamps and scoundrels falls off SOOOO hard after a few books, it honestly feels like the author didnt know where he wanted to take the series but wanted to keep writing it since it was selling well and it starts to just get really bad.

I find the same thing with many litRPG authors. I wish they would end the series while it is still good and plenty of story left.
