Basically because of this crush it made Martha be independent and fend for herself and be the Doctor in her season, while the doctor was like the companion. Okay, for real, the scene where the Doctor and Martha are lying in bed together and all the Doctor can do is complain about how she's not Rose is one of the most aggravating scenes in the whole series for me. Martha Jones is THE hottest woman in the entire series (beautiful face, and amazing butt), and not only does she look really hot, she's a doctor herself and saves the whole world without superpowers in the end, making her cooler than most other modern Who companions too. If I were the Doctor I'd have been thrilled to share a bed with someone as sexy her, but he just treats her poorly because he's not over Rose. Sigh...

The Doctor talks down to Martha and is distant with her all season. He is actually doing this on purpose because he doesn't want to get attached to martha becasue he doesn't want to lose another person he cares about.
