Best off-white by Sherwin Williams

What is the best off-white by Sherwin Williams? I was looking for a great neutral and warm off-white paint for a coastal home that could go everything but was neither cold nor boring. This is my review of Pearly White by Sherwin Williams in various lighting situations to help you decide on this or any other white, off-white or neutral tone for your home. I live off the coast of Georgia and my style is definitely coastal, but this Pearly White paint by Sherwin Williams will work for many styles. It's really an Off-White with a modern warm tone, not too yellow and not too blue. Much better than the accessible beige that was there before. (Though I didn't hate Accessible Beige) Beware that this off-white paint color is a bit of a chameleon and depending on your lighting situation, you might find different tones at various times of the day. If you are tired of the typical stark white, gray or greige tones, then this color might work for you. I'm calling it an off-white greige color that will work great with the current trends of paint colors that have been rolled out by Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore. The new trend in design is to go back to nature: earthy colors, warm tones, colors of the flowers and outdoor elements. Love it!!
I also share other paint colors to consider and the trim that worked beautifully with Pearly White. Make sure to watch to the end to catch the bloopers with my cat Zoe. That crazy cat!

Thank you so much. I’ve been planning my living/dining repainting for awhile now. Wanted a white of some sort, so I’ll definitely get a sample of the pearly white and see how it goes. This was very helpful. You have an absolutely beautiful home! I saw your pantry re-do and keep making plans in my head about that as well!! Also can’t wait to get out in my garden. I’m in Southwest Michigan. Still snowy here but yesterday I bought some Poppy flower seeds. Just discovered that you can just throw them out onto the snow this time of year and let them get their cold spell now in the snow, as snow melts down, they seed themselves. I’m seriously thinking of using Pearly White for my exterior trim. The body color will be SW Sea Serpent. My interior walls are BM Titanium. I do notice a slight green undertone, but it looks great with my Brazilian cherry hardwood floors. The basement apartment walls are SW Alabaster which is perfect for that space. I love your video and it's given me lots to think about! I love both coastal and modern farmhouse vibes but am stuck in a small home that has choppy rooms with very little light. I've actually talked with a remodeler about making MORE windows but the cost is prohibitive so am trying to do the best I can with a pain color that will brighten things up. I'm currently looking at SW Dover White, West Highland, and Pure White. It's crazy-making to try to choose! I am also hoping to change the stair railings and fireplace from their current dark, glossy brown tones. I really love your fireplace and want to paint both my bricks and the mantle to be some version of white. Did you do something to yours? I'd love to hear about it but cannot find mention of it in your videos. Thanks so much!!

Thank you! The fireplace was there from the builder but it’s brick veneer and molding around. Is that helpful? Also, pure white is so neutral but warm tones help a lot with dark homes. I would only use pure white for trim or cabinetry and pick something a tiny bit warmer for the rest of the house. Looks like you’ve got good choices! Hope it turns out better than you imagine ☺️

Hi! I don’t have extra white but I think it would look great. If you pair it with warm tones, it will lean warm. If you pair it with cool tones, it will lean cooler (not completely cool though). Always sample cause there are too many variables.

This is such a hard question. I used to have a home in another city that was like that. I liked Swiss Coffee by Benjamin Moore bc it didn’t get murky and bland. It has enough warm tint that it’ll it neutralize it. You could also get a more saturated color so you aren’t fighting with a white. Whites are tricky just know that. In areas with low natural lighting I tend to pick slightly warmer tones. Hope that helps.

I immediately subscribed. I do have a question. When gray was all the rage a few years back I went and purchased all new gray carpet. Of course I'm now getting wood floors, but not in the bedrooms just wood floors in the main living areas, kitchen, dining, living room. Do you think this would be a good color with gray carpet in the bedrooms and also when I transition to the wood floors to main rooms???. A lot of people don't take their floors into consideration and my home is much smaller than yours. I don't want anything with yellow undertones, but I don't want it to look stark and not too creamy, so this looks like it fits right in the middle. Your thoughts.?? Again, wonderfully done video.

Yes, I think this is a good middle. My sister in-law used Icy Avalanche by SW which is a bit cooler, but not overly cold. You could compare the two. Comparing often helps understand whites. Pearly White has a warm undertone but doesn’t read yellow to me. I have compared it with simply white and next to that yes it pulls the yellows, but if it’s paired with cool tones it will likely neutralize well. Oxford White by BM and Pure White by SW have been the most neutral whites (can go with cool or warm tones). It’s hard to say for sure though. Too many variables. I think we should always sample to be sure.

Thanks so much! I bought it off a local store and they went under during COVID. In my paperwork it doesn’t say what brand and I’ve looked everywhere and there’s no brand name. It was custom. I will tell you that I wanted a sofa with two wide cushions and I got two exactly the same. Also, bc mine are so light in color I got it with a special fabric called crypton. I’ve cleaned two spills quite easily. I’m gonna browse various retailers and see if I can find something similar and share back with you.

This is a very similar look to my sofa. (Aiden 77" Square Arm Sofa Joss & Main Upholstery: Classic Bleach White). Mine is a very, very light gray. If you find a furniture store that can do custom fabric I world look into it also. Hope all of this helps!

Thank you so much for subscribing! My trim is Simply White but I prefer Pure White, the same as the kitchen cabinets. Simply white is warmer and sometimes tends to lean a tad yellow.

Any notes on “SW White Sesame”? Seems neutral w/beige undertones? Need whole interior…lots of natural light, 1st floor is light-colored tile with SLIGHT gray and beige tone, 2nd floor is wood laminate in a neutral tone (not yellow). Any thoughts?

I don’t have that color in my swatch at home but from what I read it’s a beautiful color. The beauty of natural light is that many colors will work. I saw white sesame has definite red undertones which means it is warm for sure. It should help the home feel cozy. The lighter version would be marshmallow and the darker version would be something like Beachcomber. I once had a realtor tell me that an amazing selling color is City Loft. City Loft has the slightest more yellow and green undertones making it a wink more “neutral”. In comparison to City Loft, White Sesame has a tad more orange tone. City Loft is a great side by side comparison. The light reflectance value of White Sesame is 71.28 which means you’ll still get great light. It’s an off-white but should still have good body, meaning it will read like a color, not like a white. My biggest tip is to take a couple of white cardboard sheets and buy sample paint from SW for $10. Paint those cardboards and place them in light areas and dark areas throughout the house. This will be of huge help and save you tons of headache in the future. Pay attention to shadows or color changes as daylight changes. When you paint a whole house, it’s inevitable that the color will vary from room to room. It sounds like a lovely choice. I also think you need to lay the cardboard next to fixed items like flooring and countertops and large furniture. Remember that the light bulbs you choose will also matter so test that. Whoa that’s a tall order. 😁 All whites have an undertone of sorts and the idea that it will be warm pulls a tad towards the yellow/red tones. Does your space get a lot of natural light? Shadows play a huge role on how the white will read. I have tried these whites successfully: Pearly White by SW, Swiss Coffee by BM, Oxford White by BM (whitest of all) and Icy Avalanche by SW (sometimes has a green undertone). Everything depends on your lighting but maybe those are good ones to sample and compare. Hope that helps!

I believe the color of the trim since I moved is Simply White by SW. I’ve kept that on the trim of the coiffured ceiling. However, the kitchen is actually Pure white by sherwin Williams. I have to be honest. I love the quality of Benjamin Moore paints a tad bit more. I bought BM paint for the kitchen cabinets in the color Pure White by SW. Pure White is so neutral. Simply white is def more creamy and warm. I like them both though.

I've since used this color on 3 other rooms in the house and used it as my mom's overall house color as well. It can sometimes lean creamy or have the slightest green tone , but It's a pretty safe color. It doesn't get too muddy even in north facing rooms. Have you already painted?

Well, at times it has a hint of that but it also depends on the lighting. It is chameleon-like - sometimes it even shifts to a tiny bit of green or gray. It really does depend on lighting and the surrounding colors.
