hey Chad. There are institutes that provide certifications, with no experience requirement but boast that they provide certifications as well. Is there a point taking these courses just because they are cheap and there are no central certifying bodies of Six sigma as well??

I wouldn’t waste time on institutions that are cheap..like those $99 programs...and no, there aren’t really any central certifying bodies. ASQ seems to be the most well respected organization but there are others that are equally respected and some that may even be more respected....hope this helps! 🙏

Hi. I have reviewed several 11 different SS training providers and find SSGI one of the best (price, support, project required to run...). It also depends on your preference. If online or classroom. I would recommend to choose company with small project to run. SSGI requires it.

It depends. If you're going for Yellow Be;t, yes. If green or black, I'd recommend a little experience first. 1-3 years for green and 3-5 for black. Hope this helps.

There are many vendors trying to sell you Six Sigma certifications. But I can tell you if you don't put the theory into use in projects you won't really learn anything. If you just want to pay money to get a nice things that says you have a certification that's fine, but employers don't care at all about certifications. Employers care about you being able tomake improvements, lead project teams, and actually know how to execute! That's why I'd recommend anyone to take it step by step, with a Yellow Belt first maybe, apply to the real world, and then advance to the next belt if you like it and if your employer benefits from it, they'll pay for it. At our site we don't offer certifications at all, we just help people put the theory into practice. If that sounds interesting to you, learn more about us.

That’s right. You can study on your own and sight up to take the ASQ exam. In fact, I used materials from Quality Council of Indiana - which is a go-to resource for folks who are taking the ASQ exam. Hope this helps!

Each should have a training plan. Most of the organizations have exams you can take online with the exception of ASQ…there, you’d need to got to prometric testing center

Hi, thank you for the question. I did a little research...I personally wouldn't seek a certification from this institution. If I'm looking at the same website as you, they are offering the exam and certification for $69 and allow you to retake the exam 10 times, and if you don't pass - they give you your money back. In my personal opinion, these are all red flags. I copied the below information directly from their website: Your Certified Six Sigma Green Belt™ (CSSGB™) Certification Program is a multiple-choice online test examination in which you can participate from your own PC from anywhere around the world. Your test contains 50 questions and you have 60 minutes in a single session to answer your questions. Your test and certification cost in total USD 69. No other hidden costs or fees involved. In order to pass your certification examination and obtain your Certified Six Sigma Green Belt™ (CSSGB™) Certification you need to correctly answer at least 60% of your test questions. Examination success rate is 98.5%.

There is no one best for this, there is no governing body or offical accreditation for this any company can train their employess in Six Sigma and most large ones do themselves. Over 2 dozen universites offer this but if you wait till you are working for a company it is better to go through their training and get it from the company you are working for.

Thank you for your support! Truly appreciated! Unfortunately I don't know much about the Management and Strategy Institute. I did do a quick search on the organization and they seem to have really good reviews. The only thing I caution folks on is the cost. A solid Black Belt training course is usually thousands of dollars. That said, I don't necessarily think cost is always equal to quality but when I see $299 as a price tag, it raises red flags. I decided to check out what's included and compared that to the ASQ Body of Knowledge and Management and Strategy Institute seemed really light for training.For example, I didn't see any probability training, statistics, hypothesis, DOE, etc for their Black Belt or Lean Black Belt. I'm coaching one gentleman through the ASQ Green Belt and he's heavily involved in these topics (as he should be)....Again, I don't know all the ends and outs of the Management and Strategy Institute but these are things I noticed from a quick search. Hello Coach, as you know, I am an undergrad engineering student and I have acheived my IASSC Yellow Belt Certification in December 2019 in the very first attempt. Although I was nervous on the day of the exam, I watched your video (on which I had commented and we had a discussion on the definition of six sigma) on that day and some other videos too on the internet amd it helped the confidence and I passed the test with a score of 260 out of 300.

The Lean Six Sigma certification has everything the six sigma certification has PLUS lean elements…Lean has exploded over the past couple of decades. So, certifying organizations decided to add lean to their existing Six Sigma certification. My professional opinion is that you should definitely pursue the Lean Six Sigma certification. I have reviewes SSGI and find it one of the best. I would go for it. However, try to run smaller project by your self and think about, how this method would be bebeficial for your career. 20% trained people use six sigma approach after the training. Do not be one of 80% 😉

As far as it meaning anything, a PMI certification is a great thing to have and you'll see it specifically called out on some job descriptions when searching for roles. I want to make sure you don't take that finding at face value. I found it through a Google search. BUT...the real value is from on-the-job development. You'll learn a great deal through simply studying and taking an exam through almost any institution. Yes, some are more rigorous than others and therefore (typically) more respected. That's why I discuss ASQ in many of my videos. Many folks see dollar signs when it comes to the Green and/or Black belt certification. Yes, it's true - you can earn a great salary by having a Green Belt and that salary is earned because you'll know how to use a specific set of tools and concepts to save money for the business that hires you. To sustain that salary, it's imperative to learn the material inside the SSGB Body of Knowledge. If you decide on an organization like ASQ, you'll be forced to learn a great deal of the material to simply pass the exam. The rest is learned through on-the=job development (as I mentioned earlier). I know it can be confusing. That's why I put together a course to help folks pass the ASQ GB exam. Inside the course, I list all the required materials needed and the method I used to pass the ASQ SSBB exam on my first pass. So, please - don't feel like you're alone in this thing! Others have the same issues because it can be confusing...so many organizations are offering certifications but many are just there to make money. Otherwise, you'll either get passed by and never land the interview or you'll land the job but won't be able to apply the skill set because all you had was the cert and not the knowledge. @@learnkaizen so, when you say "any lean and or six sigma experience", you mean the experience acquired after clearing specific belt, right ? I am, currently, a white belt with 15 months of work ex.

Not necessarily…some people work in lean and or six sigma but never get a belt. If you’re at the white belt level, I’d just progress to yellow, green then black..,if you feel like you’re comfortable with statistics, maybe try for green…but go through some formalized training before taking the exam…in reality you don’t NEED, to go through any training. You can just take the exam. I wouldn’t recommend this unless you have significant experience. You can also self study…this takes a bit of discipline but it’s absolutely and option and possible. I self-studied for the Black Belt exam.

There is no official Six Sigma Certification. Despite some organizations claiming to be the official standard for Six Sigma certification or accreditation, there is also no official body governing companies offering certification. Some of those fake "official" organizations try to steer consumers away from legitimate Six Sigma certification providers. However, two organizations, in particular, are recognized as the closest thing to the regulation of this industry. The American Society for Quality (ASQ), which is a globally-recognized company offering training and certification according to industry standards-as well as a certification verification registry. The second is the International Association of Six Sigma Certification (IASSC) accredited courses for Lean Six Sigma.

I’ve definitely heard of KPMG…keep in mind the certification is just a piece of paper. Companies want people who can execute and deliver results. My recommendation is to first self study through reading and specific online learning content. For example, I have a Kaizen Expert Masterclass with almost 50 videos, 17 downloads and I walk you through an actual Kaizen using a video (that details a specific problem) and the downloads I provide…plus support through the comment Q&A area. This is how courses should be delivered in my opinion…but often times courses are very high level and don’t teach you anything you can’t get for free from the internet or in a book. I guarantee you won’t find the detail and method I teach in my course anywhere for free or in a book because I actually show you how to do do what I’m teaching…these are the courses you should be seeking…I know you want that certification because the certification is what companies list on the job description…but what they’re really asking for is someone who has the ability to deliver. If you have a strong statistics background, you may be okay. I'd recommend taking some practice exams first. Try to find some free Green Belt exams online and take those - if you don't score well, I'd stick with trying for the Green Belt. If you score well, take some free Black Belt Exams and go from there. I’ve never heard of Aveta but there are so many institutions out there now...the main point to take away is that while training will vary from institution to institution, it’s the self education and on the job training that will make the difference. That and find yourself a mentor or coach to help. Especially if you’re going to go for Master Black Belt or become a consultant one day. Thank you for your support on my channel!

Which one is advisable certification to accomplish in healthcare sector, kindly help. Is there any special lean six sigma certification for healthcare through those suggested agencies?

I’m sure there are some organizations that tailor Lean for healthcare but it’s more of a alteration…for example: you may learn lean principles like 5S but the program would show you how to use 5S in a healthcare environment. I have nursing friends who have attended lean training and we’ve discussed the differences on several occasions…it’s the same just shown with different applications. Mark Graban teaches lean through a healthcare lens…not sure of his delivery methods but may be worth checking out. Hope this helps!🙏

Hi coach, Saw your video today and its very informative, thanks for sharing your knowledge. I am working as a quality executive in one of the leading tyre industry of india. I would really love to know whether these online certification from reputed institutes better than getting one to one classroom training from ordinary institutes back in my town. From quality background getting a lean six sigma yellow belt, would that be good. Also, is these certifications useful anywhere in world.

Your question is difficult to answer without knowing more about the online institution and the institution in your town that’s delivering the training. However, the certification isn’t as important as the experience using the tools and concepts within the body of knowledge. So, go with the institution you feel comfortable with and best fits your schedule. The real value comes from self study and continuous learning after the certification. Would a Yellow Belt be a good one to achieve? Yes, if you don’t have any experience with Lean and/or six sigma, a Yellow Belt is a good start. Hope this information helps!

Hi Coach, I really like the contents of your videos and I have to thank you for sharing your opinion and guiding us. I've been recently certified as a black belt from the IASSC. In the beginning I was aiming for the ASQ but unfortunately I not eligible based on the requirements for the BB and that's why I've went for tje IASSC. Can you please tell me your opinion based on your long years of experience if the organization really appreciate and respect the certification from the IASSC exactly as the ASQ. Best regards

Thank you for your support. I truly appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. You'll hear mixed opinions on ASQ, IASSC, and any other organization that offers certifications. Most hiring managers aren't always familiar enough with these organizations to make judgement call or know if they respect the certifying institution. What hiring managers look for: 1) Are you certified 2) Have you used the concepts and tools to solve problems 3) Can you prove it....Now, proving it comes in the forms of documentation OR simply telling the story. For example, document the savings you've delivered on your resume for each respective company you've been employed. A simple bullet point with the improved metric will do.....when the interviewer asks about the bullet point on your resume - you should be able to "tell the story" of how you used specific tools and/or concepts to fix the problem. This proves to the hiring manager that you know how to apply your knowledge to help organizations. That's the real value and it can only be attained through experience....i.e. trial and error. Use your skills on the job....make mistakes, reflect and correct those mistakes so you're more effective / efficient the next time. So, to sum all of this up - don't focus on the organization because no one cares (really)....what companies want are people who can solve their problems. My issue is I've worked for 2 manufacturing organizations and both were operating following the old mass production practices and at that time I was study a lot of the Lean and Six Sigma books I've read different books from Shigeo Shingo books to Douglas C. Montgomery Statistical books, Books on how to apply six sigma in both manufacturing and service providing organizations and I've read a lot of case studies as they tell real stories of other organizations. Unfortunately whenever I was giving a suggestions derived and represented by data about making an improvement I did not receive any support from either my manager or the upper management and that's why neither I was able to fully apply any of the tools or take the ASQ exam as they require at least a full project related to any area of the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt BoK. Thanks again for your valuable advice and I'll work according to it and I just wanted to share my experience because I feel that many people like me are eager to improve their skills and knowledge and apply those in their work area and many might not be able to apply those tools for whatever the reason (organization policy, job roles, lack of training and knowledge,...etc). @@raufsab3961 If I were in a situation like that, I would be eager to find new employment....Not saying you should but that would be my thoughts. You may be able to reach out to local smaller businesses and tell them that you'd like to solve one of their problems for FREE! Yes, for free. The benefit for them is - a problem solved.; the benefit for you is: application of knowledge/skills and experience. It may be difficult to find a company or business that will allow you to do this due to liability issues but it might be worth a shot. Just be up front about what you're trying to do. ASQ has local chapters in most areas that meet 1X per month (depending on where you live). You can connect with the group - form relationships and connections. They may know of opportunities that you would be allowed to use your skills. Either a job or freelance work. I'm sure there are other organizations besides ASQ that allow networking as well. Use LinkedIn to develop your network too. These are just a few options that I would explore if I were in your shoes. Thanks for subscribing! Really appreciate your support!
