Small update: I recently came across the game Brothers Conflict (both on Switch and Vita) and it's probably one of the easiest games I've seen so far, because there is only very ease day to day talk. And if you are a complete beginner and just want to dip your toes a bit into playing Japanese otome games, maybe start with Psychic Emotion 6(only on vita), it's also very easy and uses very few kanji! Or just download one of the many eShop demos and try them out for yourself! After playing Lover Pretend and Cupid Parasite, I would definitely say CupidPara is easier than Lover Pretend (and even a better game overall)

Brothers conflict may be easy repetitive dialogue but playing to get a guy is not easy. Some guys you don't get events unless you ignore everyone including whole family events. Some you need to balance stats. I got thrown in a loop because i couldn't get one of azusa's events and it was so frustrating.

Your channel is exactly what I was looking for!! thank you so much for the material and informations, I'm loving to learn more about otomes and how to relate this hobbie with japanese learning! I plan to start studying japanese after I finish uni. Also I use an screen translation tool that helps with language swiches, its called "capture 2 text" it makes you able to highlight the sentences in game and then the program translates for you^^ cheers from Brazil, and again thanks for the wonderful material you share with us, keep up with the good work \o/

Hey Gisele, welcome! 🤗 So glad to hear that! I'm always happy when I can support you learning and sticking to your Japanese goals 💕 I so feel that with not being able to study while you still have uni! Was the exact same for me honestly...either you feel guilty for not studying for university or your head just can't take it anymore You know what? I've actually been looking for something like that, so I'll definitely try that, thank you! Thank you, I'll try 🥰 and thanks for saying hi at the stream!

Ah, you have already updated your list regarding the otome games and their language difficulty. I was thinking about adding Tokimemo GS4 & Jack Jeanne but now they are already included. In my opinion,Tokimeki Memorial GS4 is perfect for people at a beginner level. The whole game includes only daily Japanese and as there is no real story it does not matter if there is something that you do not understand. The stat-raiser-system is also engaging and a good break for people who could be exhausted by translating all the time. (Back in the days when I was studying Japanese I actually played Tokimemo GS1). With regard to Jack Jeanne I must say that I would have sorted the game to “lower immediate” and not “upper beginner”. Most conversations are centered around musical/theatrical topics and therefore the words might not always be as basic as for example Tokimemo GS4, especially because of the musical parts. The Kanji usage might also be N1 level - I remember looking up 「懺」 from 懺悔 and I do not remember seeing the Kanji anywhere before. Also the stat-raiser-system is as basic as it can get and not as engaging as Tokimemo. But I think it's really difficult to choose the language difficulty - and as the story is quite straight forwarde, easy to understand and includes a rhythm game I can also see it being sorted to „upper beginner“.
@LinLinLavender2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for contributing anyways! 🥰 Might have been an anonymous animal, who updated the games, though, not sure Feel free to add lower intermediate to the column (or I can do it), because you're the second person, who would say it's lower intermediate! Yes, choosing a difficulty level is really tricky...but I hope it can still give an idea

@gilliantoh46583 жыл бұрын
@@LinLinLavender kiniro no corda is simple in dialogue, but navigating the system can actually be very hard. I suffered with the first game mechanics at first because there were so many elements but once you figure it out you get used to it. The Third installment is the easiest, I find. Second and fourth game are quite hard if you don’t play with a guide, but first game is the hardest, even the guides don’t really help you… I played Ayakashi gohan too and it’s a very sad, but light hearted story.
@LinLinLavender3 жыл бұрын
@@gilliantoh4658 Oh no, menus are the worst! That's why I don't play "normal" games in Japanese, because I don't want to read tutorials and stuff. How can a game be sad and light-hearted? Sounds interesting, thank you!
@gilliantoh46583 жыл бұрын
@@LinLinLavender i thought i was going to die in La corda but once i devoured the guides and played around i understood how it worked. Seriously without the guide I would die. If anyone says otome games are easy flip book don't believe them, some will pwn you flat. The tutorials are the easy part lol. But don't worry, it gets easier with the installments, its all about managing your time, practice your pieces, make your friends. Ayakashi gohan is still lighthearted, but it also talks about separation with the boundaries of ayakashi and humans, and the final reveal broke my heart.

Hi there! I only came across your channel through this video recently, but I've been thinking about this video a lot. I know these games could be used as an aide when studying japanese, but as a total beginner/someone who's new to studying the language, do you possibly have any tips on what I should do for starters before advancing to playing/translating any of the games? Like, what resources I could possibly use or what I should do to get to that point? If not, I understand! This was still a really helpful & informative video :)
@LinLinLavender2 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for your comment 🥰 I'm planning to make a video for total beginners soon! So far I can just say what I also said in the other learning videos: of course you should be able to read at least hiragana and some basic grammar would be helpful, like you find in beginner's text books, learning apps or Tae Kim's grammar guide or in a lot of KZbin videos 😁 but in theory you could start reading after you know some basics, if you are prepared that reading a sentence will take a long time - looking up all the words and making out the grammar - but that's more a matter of dedication and taste and less of skills I hope that helps in some way? I also have a discord with some helpful people and resources, if that interests you

Thank you for your suggestions! I've started learning Japanese some weeks ago or so, and I was looking for ways to motivate myself to actually go far with it 😂😂 I was actually thinking that once I reach a comfortable level I could start playing Obey Me in Japanese, I don't know if you've heard of it, it's a mobile game 🤔 Do you think it's feasible? 😅 It will probably take a while, but I'm willing to do it even if it takes years 😔 By the way, are you German? Toll! 😍
@LinLinLavender3 жыл бұрын
You're welcome! Otome games are the best motivators in my opinion ;) I think Obey me might be a bit more difficult due to the fantasy setting, but as it's free you have nothing to lose, do you? Good luck! Yes, can't hide my accent 😅

@@LinLinLavender I think so too, they're actually one of the main reasons why I started learning Japanese in the first place ☺️ I've been intending to for years, now finally I've decided to take it seriously ☺️ It's not going to be easy, I know, but I want to try! Ah yes you're right, the fantasy setting is going to make it tricky 😱 It's ok, though, I'll be able to understand everything one day 😂😅 The way you speak English is so pretty though! @LinLinLavender Жыл бұрын
Hello! Yes, a lot of games are on mobile as well (you need to get via the Japanese playstore though), like Norn9, Amnesia, Nil Admirari, Hakuouki, so beginner friendly would be Amnesia They are also part of the Otomate Collection, which allows you to play them in your browser, I talk about that in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/baDYmXyklK1jmZo On PC you have some multilingual (but often unvoiced games), but Steam Prison, Ephemeral and Nightshade are voiced, more in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXencpmOj559fq8 Sadly I'm not the best to ask when it comes to PC otome games...but most of them you can buy physically on Amazon JP or browse DLsite (though they have a lot of 18+ games as well) Ayakashi Gohan is certainly a very good beginner choice and available on PC, I think Butterfly Gloss and Hana Awase are also on the easier site Or indie games like Suki da Liltte Aid also has a voiced MC, which might help The Starry Sky games are also on PC and very very easy! Tokyo Yamanote Boys as well... So there are a lot, but I don't know them all 😅 I think I'd recommend Ayakashi Gohan and Starry Sky If you're interested, I'm sure people in the discord have also great suggestions 🥰
