Completelt agree with you! I learned english in Brazil playing jrpgs. I have been studying japanese for several years and games are an amazing immersion tool for that.

Very informative! I think I'll play Kingdom Hearts for the 4th time, and if the vocabulary is too intensive I'll dial it back to the latest Animal Crossing. Thanks for the video.

Sitting here and FF14 is my favourite game just like "Well damn.." But all the other FF games are also my favourite games so maybe I could finally re-play FF4 like I've been meaning to.. Or Pokemon Blue..

I haven't played FF4 personally but if you're really familiar with it, I think it would be a nice game to give a try. Pokemon Blue would likely be on the easier side as well, so why not both? haha

earlier pokemon games are what i started with, i think, but bear in mind that everything is in hiragana. at the time i was like "oh sick let's go, i can read it all!!" but it probably wasn't the most helpful (efficient??) thing to not get any exposure to kanji/ learn new words divorced from their respective kanji. so do what you want, enjoying yourself is absolutely most important, but if you can i do recommend one of the newer pokemon games, as those bad boys have kanji. glhf

I like playing visual novels recently and let me tell you, if you can get into it they're a massive progress maker. Since it's basically an animated, voiced book, and since they're so long, you're exposed to so much text, language and forced to read so much kanji over and over again, which will make your vocabulary and kanji reading ability sky rocket. They can be a bit tiresome for some, but I can recommend them a lot from advanced beginner/low intermediate onwards.

From very early on I was using a visual novel for immersion and while it can definitely take a lot of work, I definitely think it's paid off. I recently started to pick up DS games like Rune Factory and Dragon Quest and I'm almost amazed at how much I'm getting. Obviously still have a long way to go, but it's definitely fun to see the progress.
