Had a thought on doing this today, my first model was a Leman Russ Battle Tank and I use it quite a lot in 40k games, the problem is that its paint scheme is a bit dull and I moved onto adding camouflage to my other models (in which this model does not have a camouflage of its own, making it look out of ordinary to the other tank models)

Great tutorial. I do have to say though that I used this exact chemical and technique but it did not have the same effect. Granted my models have had paint on them for about 20 years, however they’re not particularly thickly coated. I’m finding that a lot of scrubbing and chemicals are still not getting all the paint off. There are still stubborn areas that don’t seem to strip no matter what. Any advice?

This works amazingly well. Probably the best stripper available
@PinoyCarter2 жыл бұрын
Been dickin' around with strippers and stripping methods. TLDR: either use ELO as the initial step or final step in stripping to completely clean plastic OR if you're willing to put a couple of hours into a single model that needs to be cleaned THAT day. LATA will get the job done just as well with a bit of a soak. Speed: ELO>LATA Sonic>LATA Soak. Who needs a model stripped right the f--- now though? This ELO stuff is the fastest. However, it is work intensive and NOWHERE near as quick & thorough as the video makes it out to be. It's great for open and low quantity of models for the stripping process (1-10?) . Open models being something like an assault intercessor, where an intercessor with bolt rifle in both hands going across his chest is what I consider closed. There is practically zero passive stripping, so the harder it is to get a brush somewhere the more time consuming it is. I have always needed a soak in another solution and/or sonic cleansing to clean it completely. Also, the reusability of the liquid is questionable. What I've used turned the light blue/grey/black of the paint I was stripping. So far it has remained just as effective but not something I want to return to the bottle. LA Totally Awesome (LATA) in a sonic cleaner is just as effective, more passive, cheaper, works in "bulk", but will need a day or two to get best results. It will take some brushing to get the last bits off, but can be workable without that step. LATA and nothing but scrubbing will do the job. It can take up to a week to be as clean as it can get without scrubbing. This degree of soaking will also weaken glue, so repairs will be necessary. However, 24-72 hrs *can* get it done depending on detail and paint type.

I got some of this after watching this video to fix some Ebay scores. I had a Necron Night Scythe that felt like it was painted in a wood shop and got a ton of sawdust in the paint as it was drying, and a Necron Monolith that was primed solid black, but it was probably with some sort of automotive primer, because Simple Green couldn't touch it. The ELO got all of the paint off from the Night Scythe, no problem. The Monolith has been a bit more difficult. I finally got it down to plastic, but the paint as sort of melted and bonded to the plastic permanently. Have you ever had this experience? Is it safe to prime over?

Best way I found of stripping weapons (that stick off the model) is suspend them above a tub of your stripping liquid in such a way only the weapon is under the surface, Try to leave a gap though or it will seep into the hand due to the wicking effect and start lifting the paint you want to keep, the last little bit can be scraped back with a scalpel after the bulk has been washed off, a helping hand is great for this

I have no where to buy this in my country, here is what i did with mine. READ I used Nail remover acetone free. This acid is little weaker then this one in video.. It is used to remove acrylic paint from nails without destroying plastic nails. But i did it with caution anyway. Soak him first for 15sec in tequila glass. And then start dooing thing with a tooth brush. Effect is a lot weaker then this procces on video. Also soak the brush in acetone, and after, soak mianture couple more times for about 3-4sec. Didnt loose any details, removed 99% color.

I'm having issues with removing the primer...paint come off fine. Would this help?
@spikeybitstv2 жыл бұрын
It gets off even enamel paint so I would think it would do just fine with primers too.

I would not leave your minis in there very long. Be careful submerging them

Dang you would think Testors would sell this stuff everywhere?
@sketchydev46565 жыл бұрын
Just looked up the MSDS sheet on testors website - I suspect it's the Isobutanol (Isobutyl alcohol) that means they can't ship to UK. I could be wrong, but i think it might be one of those things that the general public can't buy in the concentrations found in ELO.

Spikey Bits THanks. Btw, can you confirm by a test or something that this works on plastic? I feel like it may not, since you didn’t use it on plastic in the vid and it was so efficient on metal that I’m a little worried.
