They missed an opportunity to make it invertible or re-sizable. If they had gone with modular, universal panels, it would have been amazing, but they decided they'd make this a more expensive case with materials and finish instead, deciding that people who want inversion can't have nice things. Also, this was premiered in January and is still not available for purchase and has no price, so yeah...

@Sirgreen57 - Well there was comments about it on GN’s first look video with the case as well as the WAN show to bring the issue to light since now LTT is at least warning consumers to be “cautiously optimistic” with how bad he felt burned about him and his community. There’s a different collab going on but GN was unaware of any of this going on since it was not on their radar at the time and only met them as a new company collab. Either way like any of these cases, we’ll see once it comes in physical form and is actually shipping and in stock.

I'm really fond of that too. It's odd to me that this is such a new concept. The savings on shipping should be a great incentive for any case company. How much are they paying to ship a container full of what are essentially empty boxes? I saw the montech stuff on a live stream and was pretty impressed, especially with the combo of quality and price. They had some case options that I thought for sure were going to be well over $100 that were closer to $60, and even the ones that were at or over that $100 range, seemed to be cases that other companies would be charging a lot more for. They even talked a lot about just wanting to offer people nice case options at more affordable prices and they seemed to be sincere.

I just recently got the Fractal Design Pop Air, however before that I had a case from 2014 with non-existant airflow so any modern case would've been a major upgrade. Though the stock Fractal fans are weak, I'll need to get more P12's.
@GamersNexus Жыл бұрын
The Pop Air is a great case! We liked it in our review. Very compact and functional while still having a unique look.
@supra107 Жыл бұрын
@@GamersNexus Yeah, I also like that the USB-C cable is optional so I can pay for it later while a case with proper airflow was my main priority. I'm also thinking about finally getting an M.2 drive and cutting down SATA drives by two, so I can mount my DVD drive back in, or even get a Bluray one. I went with the full black version with metal panels, I wouldn't benefit from glass and I just want my PC to work, not look pretty. And those Arctic P12 fans too, right now I've moved the stock Fractal ones as top exhaust and added P12's as front intake, but the Fractal fans just barely move air and I want something that can push more air through while still being fairly cheap and also adjustable via PWM in software to balance input and exhaust under load with a 5 fan configuration. The Fractal fans won't even turn when setting them below 40% in software. I think P12's are a good value choice for case fans even though they're more designed for radiators. Needless to say the case change helped immensely, my 1060 in the old case would hit 81C under full load, and in the current case it's 71C under full load. Of course getting a newer GPU is also next in line, maybe a used 3070 to not give Jensen more money while not breaking bank since I want to play around with AI stuff. Unless AMD steps up with support for computing like that on Windows I'll have to stick to the green team.

Honorable mentions to the Thermaltake Tower 200, Montech K95, and Phantek NV5, as well as just the fact that MATX is finally getting more attention than just "cheap". The Streacom deserves a mention here for being really awesome, even though I can't afford it. But this isn't decided yet, especially since "good" musician's desks are .... not known for being affordable.

Speaking of, Steve if you're reading this, would you mind asking Noctua next chance you get if they have plans on updating their 200mm fans? I'm kinda wondering if they see value in doing it, since they're not really popular, but I also feel that's slowly changing what with many cases FINALLY adding more support for 140mm fans since the 40 series exists. Oh and most important to me - inverting it only took moving the feet to what was formerly the top. Another case that just looks awesome which I'd love to see an english outlet checkout is the Captain Case V12. Dubili is a premium case though (from 250 USD to 305 EUR as I've read in various sources). It's a very nice case but it's really huge (full tower, larger than Fractal Torrent probably) and heavy (~15 kg). I wish it was smaller (a bit smaller than the LANCOOL 216). If there is a compact edition coming out, I will buy it immediately as it's the endgame case for me. I'm using 216 now, it's fine, but it feels so cheap (the front panel is really some cheap plastic and the quality of paint is just ok).

I highly recommend InWin look more into professional wood joining techniques. Mitering looks *much* better than the butt join we see at the top of the Mod Free Mini here, especially given the cut end is not even finished, and it's really easy to do - just cut the ends at a 45 degree angle and put the cuts together to make a nice smooth corner. It masks the joint really well because the visible part is on the edge, so it just blends into the fact that there's an edge there. Not sure how they managed to do routed edges without knowing about mitering, because routers are more niche than miter saws (which is honestly the first mounted power tool I'd buy for a workshop, they're so useful), but...I guess I'll give the metalworkers a break - they're used to having to finish edges because an unfinished metal edge will cut you rather badly. (And no, I am not a super experienced woodworker, I did a decent amount when I was a kid, and have recently been trying to build some custom shelving, that's about it. It doesn't take an expert to know mitred edges are the easy way to make things look nice.)

I want a modern case with 4 fans blowing directly onto the motherboard instead of a glass side panel but I guess i will get whatever's available with 3 front intake. I only got the Thermaltake one because it was the only one with front intake that was in stock amongst the hundreds of solid panels that were available.

Steve and team; What case would you build in if air cooling performance was the only goal? PC is stored in a (ventilated) closet. I like air just due to much less long term maintenance/fewer worries. As the other room is used, fan noise level isn't a concern for any consumer-tier fans (the 120mm 2300rpm fans in my server in the same room aren't heard). Size is nearly irrelevant, as well. Using Fractal R6 with 5 140mm Noctua case fans NH-D15 with all fans at full speed currently. I wish Silverstone still made an AFFORDABLE rotated+ air penetrator case but $800 is just too much. $300 max would be ideal, but I would stretch to $400 for the perfect case. Fractal Torrent is my best guess at this point but curious if there is potential better one if looks are not a concern and performance is what I'm really after

Though I do love the Dubili idea (having posted saying we need a modular flatpack case a long time ago), what we really need is an mATX version that uses 120mm fans with two up front, and is therefore a lot smaller. Though I would say to move the power supply to the front so that there can be two sets of two fans pulling air from the base and up past the motherboard. I do wonder if giving a big enough air gap at the bottom means you could have the rear IO down there, thus orientating a tower CPU heatsink in the flow and stopping the GPU becoming a heat dam, though it might still be nice to have a riser and mount it towards the back of the motherboard.

I especially like the GPU cable shroud which also seems to function as a support structure (something that's quite handy given how GPUs get bigger and heavier to a degree where extra supports are necessary to prevent damage to GPU and/or motherboard) and I'd like to see this become a more common feature for cases everywhere (also it just makes it look so much cleaner since those GPU cables can be a b*tch to route).

Whenever I look at the Dubili case, I wonder if it takes Ikea Skadis hooks and other accessories. Those perforations only remind me of that Skadis system.

Unrelated to cases, but something I feel you guys might be interested in looking into… Eve/Dough (crowd designed monitor company) not shipping people’s preorders for two years and refusing refunds. Could be a topic for a Artesian Build V2?

Its amazing how much activity there is in the case market, considering it's realistically the least necessary upgrade if you already have a computer built. Flashy looks are nice but performance and ease of use are top priority for me.

You went after antec for their peripheral shift in terms of market strategy, but as a relatively recent (~3-5 year) pc builder, I knew them first for their batteries and "gadgets". Owned several antec products, and they worked wonderfully, were durable as hell, and were useful for years to the point that I've looked for them specifically when I'm needing new things. Not sure if I just got lucky with my experience or not.

Wow that mirror on the bottom really inspired me to put something in my CG560. I have a graphics card with RGB that is mostly pointed down and not really visible but the mirror is such a neat idea.

This may just be me, but I would like to see more cases that can be internally flipped. By this, I mean if I want to sit the case on the left side of my desk, I can see my internals and not the back of the motherboard tray and cable management. I know that is possibly a r&d nighmare and realize the motherboard itself would either be fully flipped or just rotated. With a smaller desk, I have more room to my left and not smacking my case while I play. My current solution is a wall mounted thermaltake p3, just to get it off my desk completely and still be able to see it.

I sawed my HD trays out to fit my new components. Was going to order a new case but after all your videos about these new cases coming out I decided to live with what I have until they release. Looking forward to the reviews so I can get one. Having to fit a 3.5 slot 3070ti and a 240mm radiator and 4 HDDs really narrows down my choices.

The Streacom passiv cooling case is expensive, but when you think about doing a zero maintenance, super quiet system yourself, you also quickly rise up in cost. So respect to the system, hope it delivers.

The antec super lanboy was legendary. It was affordable, light, had a loop for a padlock and the little inbuilt drawer was so handy for all sorts of junk. I still have the strap and use it on my cat's carry case because the handle on it broke. It's crazy how far cases have come since then

About the placing of the reversed connectors, on the motherboards, I wish they could finally come up with a "standard" for each format (ATX, M-ATX and ITX), so that case manufacturers can actually make cases for such motherboards, without drilling holes all over the backplate
@CruelViper88 Жыл бұрын
I like the Thermaltake CTE, because the 90° rotated Motherboard means I can now hang the massive heavy GPU on his bracket. Not putting any stress on the PCI connector, or the GPU PCB. Considering the GPU only keep growing in size, weight and cooling demand PC case manufacturers need to consider those GPU's need to be mounted different then before. PCI risers needs to become the norm.

Came here hoping to see something that might outdo the Hyte Y60 but doesn't seem like any of them do so. The thermaltake tower comes close though.

Ever since the "lego" Inwin airforce, I've been excited and delighted to see more and more unique-looking, interesting cases, even if most of them are mostly black or white. I especially like seeing cheaper, more styled open bench cases, I like the idea of having an open pc, but most are expensive, hardly styled, and would be better with a bit more framing to help "protect" components a bit more, and full mesh panels provide that well

The Air 3000 Max gave me an idea for a niche case for the market: Plenty of 3.5" hard drive cages, plenty of 5.25" bays, and intake fans on the side panel to compensate for the lack of airflow from the front. You know that data hoarders would absolutely love to have a case like that. Fill it up to the brim with high capacity hard drives, add Bluray, DVD, CD, LTO drives and whatnot, and have a powerful archival rig at their disposal. Maybe Silverstone could do a revival of the RV02 with this concept.

From what I've seen, people usually use the Automatic Ripping Machine scripts with an (external) stack of drives to cover the batch they have in an efficient manner, then disassemble it. Having the optical drives in forever is rarely needed. As for cooling the drives - Define 7 solves it better with a more open 3-point mounting (well, to an extent - it does cause some issues for Toshiba drives), and there's also an older R5 that's halfway there but has more rigid mounting for 5.25" drives.

Flat-packed cases become interesting if it reduces costs for the consumer in ways that make some of the $2-300 case features available to those with a slightly smaller budget. One feature a DIY assembly case cannot skimp on too much is the strength and thickness of the parts because the manufacturers can't depend overly much on complex bends to hold tinfoil thick elements together. Using screws means the material has to be thick enough for the screws to hold structurally without stripping out the holes easily, and that means they'll have to build them to take the weight of modern cooling components. It probably means a few more "invertable if you want it to be inverted" designs which is also a plus depending on where the machine is going to live.

Some nice cases, but why so much glass??? Is steel so expensive? I am a grown-up. I don't need to see the inside of my case, but steel panels are getting seriously hard to find and they are often at a premium. I got tired of my current glass side panel (inherited case), so I glued an IKEA peg-board ("skådis") to it. The side panel finally has a purpose.
@supra107 Жыл бұрын
It's because that's the trend. I also want to see more options for steel side panels (which are basically always cheaper than TG) since I don't keep my PC on the desk, I don't have space for that. I keep it on the floor, with the left side facing the wall, and I just want a black humming box under my desk that does work. Metal side panels are cheaper, more durable, more reliable, and all that you really need if you don't want to turn your PC into a showboat.

Thumbs up for these "self building kit style" cases like the InWin Dubili! Not only is the damaging in shipping of big, heavy cases gone, the consumer also gets a building experience with the case itself! Bravo! With the availability of 3D printers this could be a modding option in the low cost segment! Also the uprise of micro ATX is a very cool thing, looking at Thermaltake Tower 200! Not only does a standard PC have less parts theses days (no HDD, no ODD, also no SATA) but the reduction of that footprint on the desk is something even Apple has seen years ago with their Mini. Even for a casual gamer with mainstream hardware a smaller case does make sense these days if the ventilation is not compromised. And the shipping and transportation also is easier than with those big, heavy towers of the 2000's. Both examples (inWin, Thermaltake) could also include or offer an inverted version though for people having their PC on the left side of the table.

Re: Fractal Terra. I bought and built mine with an all-AMD build just last week. R7700X, 6700XT, Aorus B650I board. Thermally, I went with a low profile Noctua L9 cooler paired with a carbonaut pad, an additional A12x15 under the PSU. It performs well enough, under cinebench it'll get to just shy of 90C, which indicates a poor choice in cooler, but I wasn't confident in what I could actually get away with fitting in the case. My only gripe with the case experience in particular was the fact the PSU internal cable is not or doesn't fit into most SFX PSUs nicely due to how most of them have their plugs orientated.

It's trippy to see so many InWin cases. InWin was one of the first case manufacturers to grind down all the sharp edges inside their cases... back in 1998. It took years for the practice to catch on, but it was a welcome relief for anyone who was earning their living building custom PCs.

I love that cooler on the Lian Li Sup 01, thats a neat unit. The Dubili is one of my favorite new cases announced, it looks super slick. I'm really liking the montech King 95, its nice to see some light themes and curves like like that in cases again. I REALLY REALLY hope Deepcool releases that fantastic Teal color they showed on the prototypes, They really should latch onto that color and run with that along with purple, white, and gray. Thermaltake's Ceres series (lol) is lookin pretty slick too, im liking these new color trends all around. That Streacom passive case is REALLY cool, but i'll have to admire it from afar, too rich for my blood. The Fractal Terra excites me in its physical construction, I would love an M-ATX case made in the same method. Maybe available in a saturated anodize purple color. It's so nice and refreshing to see these manufacturers actually taking user requests into account and actually being able to read the room, so to speak. Also them taking computer journalist and reviewer advice to heart and understanding that it actually helps them in the end. In-Win once again captures my heart with their adventurousness with colors and design, they are always making such cool stuff.

I need a 5.25 bay for my Media Card Reader and additional USB Ports. For that reason I love my Fractal Design Define R5 Blackout (2017). Yes, there is also a Blu-ray combo drive in the case but it hasn't been used in years. Building a new computer this fall but the Design R5 will be about the only thing coming over from the old computer.

In my experience. The Coolermaster HAF 700 and HAF 700 EVO is the best enthusiast case on the market. I absolutely love building systems in it. And with dual 360mm top mount rads, it's fantastic for managing the rads while giving the 2 front 200mm fans up front as well as the bottom ones for all the air flow you'll ever need. I can't wait to finally have one of my own.
