Understanding Peptides and what they do. Recent peptide technology in skincare fascinates me. They're effective and have a wide range of benefits for the skin, addressing wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, texture etc. To keep it simple, I'm going through the different classifications of peptides, what they do and my favourite formulas.
Many of you ask me about EGF which is similar. Will talk about this separately!

you truly are one of the best educators on this platform, Renée. i've been consuming so much skincare content on youtube and instagram lately, and this video just reminded me of how great your content truly is. sure, there are scientists, chemists and dermatologists on social media with a lot of knowledge in their fields, but i think you have a knack for explaining things in a very efficient and entertaining manner. probably the creator i've learned most from over all these years.

Hey Renee! I’ve been meaning to ask you for ages, if you’ve compared Dr. Pickart’s (the OG ) of copper peptides to Niods copper range? I’d really like to hear your thoughts. I’m a long time user of Niod, most of my fave products are from their line. Deciem is such a quality company. P.S. I have been on the hunt for a new and effective moisturiser, a one and done type product for busy or lazy/unwell days, so I followed your lead and ordered the Dr. CI: LABO aqua collagen gel and what a surprise, not, like most things you enjoy I too enjoy. My skin really likes it, my wallet not so much, but I think it’s worth the price tag, especially the bigger jar with 120mls. Thank you for your years of excellent & experienced recommendations. You always bring a smile to my face, no matter the day I’m having. Never stop shining or educating!

I love my Drunk Elephant Protini, I love the no fragrance and no unnecessary ingredients that could be reactive to my skin but have no skin care benefits. They also have the Protini serum which I also like but the original cream formula is more hydrating. I also love the Drunk Elephant packaging. I have actually taken apart empty drunk elephant containers and refilled them with other products I like but are in tubes or open tubs. It works great and the product is kept sealed without being exposed to the air or contamination from touching the product.

I’ve often wondered if collagen-boosting peptides are necessary if someone is already using Retin-A. Don’t retinoids stimulate the production of collagen too?
@gothamista
@gothamista 8 ай бұрын
Yes, retinoids do as well as ascorbic acid. I believe it depends on age and what your skin personally needs. I alternate my tretinoin and copper peptides every other night or during periods when I'm not using tret, I'll replace it with the copper peptides. As I get along though, I'm beginning to feel about collagen boosting formulas the same way as antioxidant ones, can't get enough!

Thank you! I have been thinking about this exact topic of late, & have been so confused. Now I have more to go on when comparing different products. I have been using Derma-E Peptides & Flora Collagen. And Biossance Copper Peptides. I was looking into The Ordinary Buffet w/ Copper Peptides, but I was under the impression that you shouldn't use copper peptides along with Vit-C, is that true? Or just the L-Ascorbic Acid type? My skin can't handle that, so I use a derirative of C. Could you please address what goes with what, & what you definitely should not mix together at the same time? Thanks.
@michellekelly2937
@michellekelly2937 8 ай бұрын
You shouldn't use Copper Peptides with Vitamin C. I use the NIOD Copper Peptide serum, and they (Deciem) advise that you not use it with Vitamin C. If you go to their website, they give a list of "Conflict" ingredients/products that shouldn't be used with Copper. There are several.
@gothamista
@gothamista 8 ай бұрын
Copper peptides are only a concern with ascorbic acid. I don't worry about using alongside C derivatives so you should be fine! Also, if you like the Biossance, I personally think the Ordinary Buffet + Copper peptides is better. Other, non-copper peptides work well with everything and anything.

Thank you; very informative as always! I have gone through about 3-4 bottles of the PCA exlinea Pro, as I use as L’ Ascorbic and CoQ10 serums in AM so wanted non - copper. I use it am and pm on forehead and around mouth and eyes and I am “ very mature”! It is pricey but I ran out about a month ago and I notice my lines more! I had stopped Botox 15 mos ago to test it, and I have to say it works. I am going to look into the moisturizer you suggest also!

Nothing is permanent- not even Botox or a face lift! It is like anything, if you were to stop using moisturizer, your face would show the wrinkles that were previously plumped up and looked less noticeable, or if you stopped actives such as vitamin c or retinol, your skin would start showing issues again- consistency is key with any skincare, you can’t just stop and think your face won’t show it…. Hope that clears it up- find the routine that works for you and stick with it!
