Roger Taylor's drumming and background vocals are epic. You are hearing 4 lads, with no electronic trickery. Just pure talent.

He's not drinking beer, he's drinking tea with honey to keep his throat from drying out. If you take a close look at the variety of cups/glasses on the piano, his are different so he can quickly locate it during a set.

Here here, another reason was that he was worried about "burping" half way through a song with beer so stuck to his tea/lemon/honey, he loved his tea did our Freddie

When Freddie gets up from the piano the second time, Brian May has some sort of problem with his guitar, you can see Freddie looking behind him to see what's happening. He keeps the audience participation going with John and Roger (keep it going) until Brian is ready to come back. Brian nods that he's okay now and the song continues. Absolutely seamless. They were such a tight, professional band. I love this performance. It's very different from the complex harmonies on the studio version but equally brilliant. Brian May has said that when they were doing a show, they knew what they were going to sing and in what order but every night was different and that's what kept things fresh for them and the audience. That's a band that knows what it's doing!!!

Really happy to see young people enjoying and appreciating Freddie and Queen’s amazing timeless music. 🎼🎶 Just one reminder; please make sure to watch and listen to the end of the video you are reacting. The feeling is different when you stopped right before the music ended. Thank you.

Now you need to watch the Milton Keynes version of this song. It has a bluesy vibe. With a very different intro and end runs. Freddie said, if you perform a song the same way every time, you may as well stay home and listen to the album. So, every performance is a little different. Make sure you watch to the very end to see Freddie’s antics.

About the band… Freddie Mercury, lead vocals, piano, guitar sometimes. Had a degree in graphic arts. Designed the band's logo and many of their early costumes. Died of AIDS in 1991. Brian May, lead guitar, backup vocals. Made his guitar with his dad while in his teens. After Freddie died, went back to finish his doctorate in astrophysics. Has worked with NASA. Works for animal rights. Knighted by Charles III. Roger Taylor, drums, backup vocals (the high notes). Has a degree in biology (was headed to dental schoool). John Deacon, bass. Electronic engineer. Built a lot of the equipment the band uses on stage. Doesn't like to sing. All 4 have written #1 songs and all are individually in the songwriting hall of fame. John retired after Freddie died. Brian and Roger are still performing (in their 70s) both solo and as Queen with Adam Lambert out front.

At 3:51 you comment is hilarious. Freddy does play the guitar. He played it during the 1985 Live Aid performance for the song "Crazy Little Thing Called Love". If you search youtube for "Live Aid 1985: Queen Full Set HQ" and skip to the 13:35 minute mark you will see it.

In 1992, Brian, Roger & John participated in Freddie's Tribute Concert with various top lead singers performing Queen songs with the guys. In 1997, the three released a video and song for Freddie, "No One But You" and, also, performed Queen song "Show Must Go On" with Elton John. John (bassist) left the band after that, abandoning public appearances. We fans sure miss him!. He is the youngest at age 73 years old. Brian and Rog continued with projects and appearances and have been touring worldwide with lead singer Adam Lambert since 2012. They're known as Queen+.

On your other reaction to Somebody to Love I gave you a history of the guys in the band. They are all alive with the exception of Freddie who passed away in 1991. All 4 of these men are extremely talented and Freddie would always say that he is 25% of the band and it would not be Queen or successful without all 4 of them.

A Opera teacher stated the Wooo/Oooo Freddy does near the end of this song are 'opera' notes. Notes her opera students can only dream of hitting. Not surprising to those of us that grew up with Freddy. Bohemian Rhapsody sounds operatic in part because the album is called "A Night at the Opera" Add "Barcelona" which Freddie Mercury wrote for the Barcelona Olympics & preforms w/an operatic soprano superstars, Montserrat Caballé. (Freddy & Montserrat Caballé became friends & put out albums & not everything in English.) Listen to "Barcelona" & you'll begin to understand, Freddy could do anything.

@anne-mariesindruprix4792 .. agree to disagree.. pretty nearly just mentioning them as backing musicians... It's probably one of the reasons that they all supported and appreciated each other, and eventually started tagging all the songs as being written by Queen, instead of each individual... They were all fully aware of how important and integral each one of them was to the whole unit, and never took it for granted...

Since you mentioned the beer, you'll get some dumb comments saying Freddie never drinks beer onstage, even though he does. He's on camera drinking beer in Montreal '81 more than once. Unfortunately some Queen fans on YT are in denial or have poor eyesight. There are always 2 large clear plastic cups filled with beer directly in front of Freddie on the piano in their live videos, including at Live Aid in 1985. The small ones are Dixie cups filled with water. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ With show time approaching, towels and drinks for the band’s refreshment on stage would now be strategically placed: water and beer for Fred, beer for Brian and Roger and the Backstage Bar for John, comprising water, beer, soft drinks, wine and whatever spirit or cocktail he fancied at the time: Southern Comfort, vodka or tequila - Peter Hince (aka Ratty), Fred’s and John’s roadie and head of Queen’s crew.
@jo_jolambrini6775
@jo_jolambrini6775 Ай бұрын
Freddie loved his beer but told he stayed away from it while on stage because he was worried in case he "burped" while singing a song or had gas so he stuck to water or tea/lemon/honey which gave the look of beer, however he did have the odd occasion when he dabbled whilst on stage. Freddie was so into his tea and had to be woken up by Phoebe at the same time every morning with a cup of tea, whether he be still hung over or had only just got in !!!

"Ratty" tells all about it in Queen Unseen. He is sitting behind the Steinway Grand - servicing Freddie whatever he needs - without a word - only gestures. He also took care of John Deacon.

The other three are still alive, although John Deaon (bass guitar) quit after losing Freddie. He felt the band could never be the same without Freddie......and in my opinion, he was right. I'm not sure who they have playing bass and singing leads now.

For the last 12 years they have had Adam Lambert as lead singer. Spike Edney plays keyboard and other instruments if needed. He joined Queen in the eighties to make it possible for Freddie to leave the piano - but he was out of sight back stage. I don't remember the names of the others - but Roger's son Rufus played percussion when they first started out - also when Brian or Roger performed solo. I don't remember the names of the other three. Adam is a fabulous singer - some say the best alive - and he does not try to be Freddie -. You can hear it on a take from 2016 - singing "Who wants to live forever" - the day after the mass shooting in a gay nightclub. Being gay himself it made him very emotional and he dedicated the performance to the victims. Right now he is playing Emcee - the conferencier in "Cabaret" taking over from Eddie Redmaine - at Broadway . By the way - Emcee is gay too !
