This idea we should be top 6 is beyond daft. We are not a top 6 side and it beyond arrogance to think we have a divine right to be in there Sure if everything clicks we can do it but some fans are getting toxic because the team can't match their expectations. There are 7 teams outstanding us almost every season and our academy us years behind our rivals. There are only so many times you can rely on your rivals having a stinker before you just accept we aren't a top side yet

Remember last season, St James' park, hammered Everton 1-0 up, cpuldnt kill the game, they got a penality near the end, ended 1-1, and we lost out in a Eurpean spot! Selective memories trying to appease that rubbish at the weekend.

Over the years I’ve seen a lot better forwards than Big Willy Osula fall by the wayside.We could have a centre forward on a YTS ? From the dog and duck and some people would be screaming for him to start.Leave it to Eddie,he sees him every day

@@terrym61 It’s all about opinions however if it’s a choice of no recognised CF at all or a CF with limited experience we’ll say, under the current circumstances, I would play him, and if nothing else it might give the kid a bit of confidence, again it’s just my opinion.

The XG is helped massively by the penalty. We were awful. A top half finish is looking less likely with each game that passes. More teams are surpassing us in terms of quality, consistency, and goals. The eddie how love in is becoming embarrassing. 4-3-3 is dead. No goal from open play for 3 and a half games should say it all but the eddie cult is blind.

There were a lot of positives imo. The way we controlled the game was fantastic. But Howe’s second massive issue outside of style of play is recruitment. Technicality breaks down low blocks, and Howe prioritises physicality. It’ll be his downfall.

Top 4 is a must to keep Isak/Gordon/Bruno and it doesn't look like it's happening at the moment. I really fear that messed up summer transfer window is going to haunt us and potentially for many years as once those big names leave it'll be even harder to get CL next season. It ain't good tbh :(

Gordon & Bruno have just signed long-term contracts and Isak is close to signing one too. They are going nowhere anytime soon and if they do it will be for mega-money which the club can then re-invest in the squad. We will add to the squad in January so European football is still possible.

Same story as last season tbh. It's all ifs and buts, explaining away dropped points as if it'll all magically come together at some point. This team has no chance of top 4 unless we do some miraculous stuff in the January window. We're stuck in limbo, too good to struggle like we did in the past, but not good enough to properly challenge. We should prioritise winning a cup, the league (6th-9th) will most likely take care of itself.

My God 'Ordy' is the most pessimistic and miserable fan going. We arent top 4. City, Arsenal & Liverpool have top 3 wrapped up. We're competing with Chelsea, Villa, Spurs, Man U for 1 more position. We aren't on their level yet. Be intersting to see how Villa do with all the Champ League games, theyre now wracking up injuries, but we didnt invest in the summer. Top 6 is where we should be now in reality. Why did we buy Osula? Maybe for the future? £15m isnt much in todays game. He was bought for his potential (Hall, Tino...) I agree there are improvements to be made and its disappointing to only get a point against EFC. Fulham arent a bad team, we have no divine right just to beat teams because we're NUFC. Chill out man.

Isak isn't a striker. He drops far too deep and he doesn't attack the ball in the 6 yard box, so nothing there changes for me. We need Wilson back ASAP and a top striker in the summer.

Was this a better performance, or just an very poor opponent that was content to sit in their own half and give Newcastle the ball? Is it really a domination if Everton don’t press and don’t care about possession (and give it straight back when they get it anyway?). Is the build-up play improving if you’re not being put under pressure and can pick your pass with ease? Minus the penalty I can only remember two chances of note (Bruno’s shot that was cleared off the line, and the Gordon one that was blazed over the bar). 13 shots and 0 big chances created. Non-penalty xG of 1 (so... an average of 0.08xg per chance). If you’re having 70 percent possession then you have to be doing better than that. Everton are dreadful. Their only good player, Branthwaite (who played in their solitary win) was injured again last night. Season's stats so far: - 10 big chances created from 7 games in PL (only Wolves have created fewer) - Bottom third for xG - Bottom third for xGA - Games where Newcastle have had more xG than their opponent: 1 (last night) - Avg possession: under 50% - Avg position of opponents so far: 12th (quite a kind start compared to last season)

No surprises with the increase in form came as tonali starts he adds so much composure then Sean longstaff he's so much more comfortable taking it on with players behind him. He gives Bruno much more room to be himself. Our problem is scoring which wasn't a problem last season I think once we start banging them in I think we'll be fine

So, essentially, these things happen. We have a problem with not having a second effective striker. If we had one half of a shooting boot on we’d have won easily. It’s most definitely points dropped but we really needed to see the right Newcastle team. The ‘best midfield’ seemed to work for the first time and I’m pretty sure they’ll get better. Funnily enough, we did the hard bits well but often did the easy bits poorly. We need to balance aggressive attacking with the very clever working the ball. There’s a developing ‘thing’ in premiership football now in that the mid/low block is starting to be able to defeat the efforts of the attacking team (ie stop them scoring). These pod casts are much better when there’s some degree of disagreement t, btw.

Some of our fans need a bit of reality check here. If we finish 7th this season we will have done well. Most teams in and around us strengthened the starting 11 we have failed to do that. Our squad was already light with Quality in Centre Back/Defensive mid as in a natural no 6. A Right Mid and a proven Forward. Its came back to bite us not strengthening. January Window is massive

Centre Back Defensive Mid as in a natural number 6 Right Mid/Right Fwd Striker All positions that need looked at

@@Cristobal_2012 Botman will take 3 to 6 months to get back to the player he was. With an ACL thats the way it works look at Van Dijk. Also Isak is lightweight and Wilson injury prone

Harvey Barnes has not looked great whilst starting. However, ironically although he was taken off, he is exactly the kind of player you would want off the bench the last 20/30 mins to nick you a goal. If you had a player like that for right wing also I.e. neither Murphy or miggy. That would make all the difference too.

We are 2 points better off against these same fixtures last season (I don't mean the first X games, I mean the same fixtures, Man City at Home etc.) 1 extra point would have got us into Europe.

I don't know how people can be happy, we are drifting to a mid table finish. Look at the players we've got, what we are watching is absolute dross. Does anyone actually enjoy watching us these days ? Fans are so desperate for Eddie to succeed they are desperately searching for positives, Everton are awful. We never look like scoring and that's down to coaching.

Bruno, Gordon, Hall & Tino all watched from the bench at first (while fans were screaming for their instant inclusion). Will Osula is in good company and if he kicks on anywhere near the levels that the others did then we will have a decent young striker on our hands.

Arsenal at home is really interesting, they are probably one of the best away teams in Europe and we are strong at home. Their corners are scary good. I think without Odegaard they can still beat us, but it will be a battle for sure.

Agreed he is raw but bringing him on last 10-15 mins would mean you could try Gordon back in his favoured position on left wing I would have brought him on for Murphy. Switch Gordan left wing, Osula through the middle and Miggy on the right. Or if you didn’t want to bring Miggy on for Barnes, you could have brought Osula on at that point to have Gordan/Osula/Murphy as your front 3.

Personally that cupmatch proved how idiotic it is by the manager to only have given your backup striker a combined 10 minutes of gametime across 6-7 matches before throwing him on for a full match. Howe seems to be stuck on letting some players try to play themselves back into form no matter how tired, injured or out of form they may be, even to the point of them costing us multiple points directly in matches. Meanwhile others just plain never get even a single chance, or get yanked of the moment they make they make a single bad pass. And lets not get started on the state of us never ever ever using our youthplayers. 2-3 keepers on the bench is just a spit in the faces of the youth chompin at the chance for gametime, not that they would be given a chance with Howe preffering his favourites even if they barely can move towards the end of matches..
