you really sold me on Mexico City, but im from Chicago and im terrified that it will feel like the same (loud, crowded, chaotic) environment. I need nature and I need peace! i want to do three months in mazatlan and three months in Mexico City to be safe lol

I live in Bucharest, Romania, and I recommend it because for 1000 dollars per month you can live comfortably even in the city center. Crime is very low here, so you are safe to walk the streets at any hour of the day and night. The architecture is beautiful in the center, and the night life is great...well, except for Covid. Pollution is considered to be high, but that is because sometimes there are firms that illegaly burn trash, or that cause a lot of dust from construction, but only in certain areas of the city. I am not affected by it in any way. There is a lot traffic in the city, so if you can afford to live in the center, that would be great. If not, I recommend a place near a metro station. The religion is Christian orthodox, so there are no weird restrictions for women like in Arab countries.

You are such an intellectual woman, love your logic and manner of presentation. We had a saying as an overseas contractor, "Don't be a hater". Living better seems to spark generously in some, but this only happens when one compares oneself to others.

Great list. You did have an African country on your list...Rabut, Morocco. When I did the search on The Earth Awaits with a budget of $1,000 a month Kigali, Rawanda and Rabut, Morocco were 2 of the 3 cities on the list.

Loved this! It was fun. Great info. I was happy to see the city of Queretaro, MX on your list. The plan is to make that location a home base as we slow travel throughout Mexico and surrounding countries for a few years beginning in fall 2022. It being on your list is further confirmation it’s the right move for us. 😀 Thank you for always giving great content…with your unique ‘Shida flair!😊🙌🏾

Interesting list. I'm surprised Lisbon or a surrounding city in Portugal didn't make the list. I've researched it and the cost of living is incredibly low while still having good infrastructure (e.g, internet access, roads, healthcare). Same with cities in Costa Rica and some in Panama. But I think more western people need to realize that you can retire abroad and live like a king on a lot less money.

I’ve heard great things about Tbilisi from BW. I didn’t realize it was so affordable. And it’s a great home base to be close enough to explore the EU and work around that EU “90-day stay for every 180-days” visa restriction.

Honestly discovering FIRE was amazing, but discovering geoarbitrage + FIRE has been life changing for me. I definitely wouldn’t need to live as boujee as some folks. I don’t drink. I don’t party. I just want a modest space, be able to eat in, internet and be able to do art and write. I can’t have children so I’ll never have to worry about that. Even if my man doesn’t come with me, knowing I’d have that sort of peace of mind? Wow. I would happily live that simple life. It would be bliss.
