Hi Abhi, I’m a student from Punjab, living in a village, and my father is a farmer. In your video, you mentioned the issue of stubble burning, and I agree it’s a serious problem. However, farmers are unable to do much about it due to several challenges. You suggested two solutions for stubble burning: 1. Waiting for 25 to 30 days before sowing the next crop. 2. Collecting the stubble at one place. While these may seem like viable options, they are not practical for most farmers. Here's why: 1. **Dependency on Rice Cultivation:** Rice cultivation contributes to around 70% of the income for farmers in Punjab and Haryana. If we stop growing rice, it will wipe out a major portion of farmers' livelihoods. Even if farmers are encouraged to switch to other crops like maize or bajra, there are several barriers: - Lack of **proper Minimum Support Price (MSP)** for alternative crops. - Unavailability of high-quality **seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides** for these crops. - Limited **knowledge and training** on cultivating these alternatives. - Absence of proper **market access** or government mandis to ensure fair purchase of these crops. 2. **High Risks for Low-Income Farmers:** For a farmer whose livelihood depends on rice, risking 70% of their income is unimaginable. If the government or experts suggest alternatives, the transition must be gradual and accompanied by sufficient **support systems**-including subsidies, training, and guaranteed markets. 3. **Tight Cultivation Schedule:** Rice sowing typically starts in June and goes on till October. Farmers don’t have enough time to wait for 25-30 days or invest in stubble collection, as this delays the next crop cycle. Time constraints, combined with high costs, make such solutions impractical. In summary, while the problem of stubble burning needs urgent attention, the solutions must address the **real challenges** faced by farmers. I request you to highlight these issues in your videos and also discuss what specific steps the government can take to make these solutions feasible for farmers.

The farmers need to tie-up with waste management companies and recycle the stubble to create organic manure. People should support real organic farmers and when more people choose organic, farmers will produce more organic and the cost will reduce with time.

You may be right bro But it has to stop and reality could be commercial interests associated with rice cultivation overweighs collective humanitarian interests, Vehicular pollution should be reduced through tougher measures , like single user car use should be restricted to 600 cc vehicles, autos should be more user friendly , no open drains system, no collection of garbage from those homes who doesnot segregate it and much more

Hey abhi and niyu I have a suggestion, if u have any influence or contacts do try this, this is regarding to the water pollution in Yamuna river. There are certain phosphate consuming bacteria which consumes phosphates anaerobically, as we know major pollutant in Yamuna river is phosphates from industrial wastes and fertilizers, please look into this if you can. Industries can treat the waste before dumping unto the river, waste water from farming can be unified through channels which inturn connects to a treatment plant where they get treated and then released into the water.

Hi Abhi and Niyu, I’m a fan of your work and have a suggestion regarding the farming sector. Every year, there's a dispute over Cauvery water between two states due to water shortages, mainly because they grow rice and sugarcane, which require a lot of water. Instead, they could grow millets, which need less water. Although the government supports millet farming, it’s not enough. If the government provides millets instead of rice to people, it could save costs and distribute more food. Millets are cheaper to buy than rice, allowing the government to offer larger quantities. This transition can be implemented gradually over a year, and the government can introduce millet recipes in schools. Benefits of Farming and Consuming Millets: Nutritional Profile: Millets: Rich in fiber, protein, vitamins, and minerals; lower glycemic index; gluten-free. Rice: Primarily a carbohydrate source; lower in fiber; glycemic index varies. Cultivation and Environmental Impact: Millets: Drought-resistant, require less water, thrive in arid conditions, lower carbon footprint. Rice: Water-intensive, contributes to water scarcity and methane emissions. Yield and Economic Viability: Millets: Lower yields but more profitable in water-scarce regions. Rice: Higher yields with well-established market infrastructure. Taste and Texture: Millets: Nutty flavor, slightly chewy, versatile. Rice: Mild flavor, soft texture, widely consumed. Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to your response.

Bro I'm from Karnataka and what you've have said now is completely correct. But every time when the government ( be it Congress or BJP ) tries to implement a new law there will be backlash from the famers and the opposition govt. People in our country don't want change just because of their inconvience even if it improves the country. Also even if the govt hands out millets instead of rice to people as freebies they will still be hesitate to consume it because are so used to eating rice every day. Rice and wheat are staple crops in our country and it very hard to replace them. If we ever want to be a developed country we need to move away from agricultural based economy, but unfortunately, it will be met with a lot of resistance from the common people.

Every year around this time we hear this news from various platforms. But, I'm afraid there has been no improvement in air quality. A decade back in 2012 Beijing had same problems and now Beijing is known for it's blue skies. Will this ever happen in Delhi ? Are we choosing the right government to tackle this issue ? Political will is lacking, strict laws are lacking, climate control spending is lacking. What's the point of paying all the taxes to government if we can't even get breathable air in return which is a basic need. This issue raises lot of questions.
