Aying is on my bucket list next time that I'm in Munich. As is Ettal, for a monastery visit, followed by a few helles beers. Another good option for a drinking day trip is Andechs, where the beer has been brewed by Benedictine monks since 1455. In Munich itself, my favorite is the Augustiner Keller.

@@MrSgtau my sister in law actually lives in Andechs. What I would also recommend while you visit Munich is to stop by Weltenburger Kloster (about 100 km away), they have some of the best beers I have ever tasted.

Awesome tips for drinking in Munich. My friends and I tried the Schneider Weiss Tap 6 "Unser Aventinus" and "Meine Hoffweisse" and they were the best bear we have ever tasted. Thanks for the help!

It is a nice place for sure. Personally I think their Edelstoff beer has more bite and is better. And when I'm in Munich area I usually go to Aying (20-25 min away). I find their beer to be even better.

Next time you are in Munich you need to try out the Aventinus Eisbock at the Weisses Bräuhaus. To produce this they use the usual Aventinus and than freeze it. The circumstance that the water freezes first allows the brewers to seperate parts of the water from the rest rest of the beer. The result is a very strong beer with a great taste which goes best with sweet desserts. Plus you have to check out the Brauerei am Eiswerk which is an independent microbrewery of Paulaner. They brew a huge variety of very delicious beer and they really know what they are doing. Definetly a place to check out!

Aventinus is a delicious brew, but its definitely no Lager. it´s a top fermenting Weizenbock. Two more Spots witk good Lagers are the new Giesinger Bräu and the Forschungsbrauerei (research brewery). The latter is in the suburbs but has a cozy little bar near the famous Viktualienmarkt. It´s called Marktstätte.

agreed. Unpasteurized Urquell is unbeatable. But Augustiner poured from wooden barrels is a close second for me. Also, Augustiner is one of the few great breweries that still remain independent, while most other have been sold to either Inbev or Heineken

Frisches Bier, the taproom from TIlman's who makes one of the best Helles "Das Helle" is a great place for lagers and IPAs alike, check it out the next time you're in Munich. Oh and come visit Hamburg, we have a few breweries here too (and a great homebrewing scene :D )

If you ever come to Munich again, make sure you visit the Forschungsbrauerei! It's a very small brewery, but they make (in my humble opinion) the best beer in Munich (and I live right next to it)! Located in Perlach, in the outskirts of Munich.

You should also try the beer by Unertl. They make also really good beer and even if Camba Bavaria are making carft beer (and of of the best in Europe) they make it traitionally and you should make a whole video about them

Hey mate, come to my hometown "Bayreuth", it doesnt only has the most brewerys in the nearer regions (over 200), it also has a resturant/pub that was openend up by a family friend and owner of a big brewery in Bayreuth, it has the biggest varierty of beers in any local of the world (over 250 from all over the world). So if you love fancy beer drive up there. They also offer a trip threw the old brewery with intresting stuff. cheers P.s. best one ist the "Bayreuther Hell"

In munich there are a lot good places to drink and to enjoy beers, especialy lager (Helles) and wheatbeers (Weißbier). So you made a good choice with the brewerys you visited. I can say that, cause i live here in munich. But i have to add one fact, the "Aventinus" is a "Weizenbock". It has a gravity of 18% and only beers with a gravity of 16% and more are allowed to be called "bock" in germany. Besides the beer is fermented by the same wheatbeer yeast like all the other wheatbeers of schneider. So, i have one little fun-fact for you, if you order a beer with "Ein Bier, bitte" you get nearly in whole germany a pilsner beer, but in bavaria you will get a "helles" and only in bavaria you can order a "Weißbier", cause everywhere else they wont understand what you want. Sorry for the long text .. Good video!

@@TheCraftBeerChannel Matter of taste. Oktoberfest beer is nothing special - it has more alcohol. I have tried beer from all the big breweries in Munich + Aying + a few minor local breweries. They are all good, but for me Czech beer is better. And much cheaper than in Germany. The beer I would recommend in Munich is Edelstoff or some of the Keller-bier types. More bite and more taste than Helles.

Lagers are fermented at cold temperatures with cold loving yeast strains that produce clean beers with very little ale-like fruity character. Aventinus is not a lager at all, as it is fermented with warm loving ale/wheat yeast that provides a complex, fruity character.

But the lager beer in München by and large is rather bland and also was it not actually invented in Pilsen? @@kennyangel Czech Pils was invented in Pilsen but German pilsner was first brewed in Munich by Spaten, as was Helles. Doppelbock was first brewed by Paulaner. I think it's unfair to call those beers bland - subtle, nuanced and balanced would be accurate. They don't have the malt depth or sweetness of say, Franconian Kellerbier but then nor should they. Munich is one of the two homes of great pale lager.

The name seems to come from Munich, the style came from Einbeck (Lübeck) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bock Anyhow speaking of beer reminds me I need to plan for my upcoming trip to London, any recommendations welcome :)

@@kennyangel not quite aure what you mean about helles not being representative of pilsner, they are very different styles conceived decades apart for different reasons. And it is more the other way around with bock - Munich brewers made a beer inspired by those of Einbeck but it is unlikely those Einbeck beers would have born much resemblance to where the style ended up. They may not even have been lagers.

I live in München and I will give you an advice, if you want visit here and drink beer. DON'T GO TO BIERGARTEN OR ANY FUCKING PLACE SHOWED HERE! Go to drinks Market (called Getränkemarkt in Germany) and you can buy every type of bavarian beer that you want. And for less than 1 Euro per half litter bottle (not 4-5 EUR that you pay in the Biergarten)

Why can the Germans have such good beer freely available and in the UK in the average pub (not all by any means) it's such substandard weak shite. We need purity laws in the UK. Way back when in 70s there was a pub, a free house where the landlord used to import lager from Germany from the wood, the only time I have ever seen that.

It's a long and complicated question, but essentially it's because the government taxes beer (or rather alcohol) way to high and because most pubs in the UK can't really decide what they buy - it's decided by the person that owns the pub itself. So market is restricted and crazy expensive. That said some great bars in the Uk sell German beer, and some even from the wood still!

I have lived and am about to again in Bayern for over 10 years. and I have to say that I moved away from the big 6 some time ago. there is a local place near where I live called Schonram which makes a good Helles and Pils, they have an American head brewer who started making Stouts and Pale Ales but I think your average Bavarian struggles to see past the Helles and Weissbiers that are the norm. Camba seem to have taken on the challenge of making varied styles I hope it takes on. Jonny.. I have been living in Sydney for past 5 years.. you need to come here.(if the budget will stretch). there is an utterly amazing craft beer scene now in Aus. There are too many to mention my favs are Feral brewing in WA, Red Island in VIC and Bridge Road Brewers, 4 Pines here in Manly, but honestly there are so many amazing beers.

Melbourne is also a bit more European than Sydney but you need to come here as it really is the centre of craft beer, not so much in the brewing but there are amazing pubs, some even more amazing breweries and I get the feeling there is a greater appreciation for craft beer here its a cheap flight and you can get hotels, air bnb at decent prices depending on time of year Let me know if you come down before June.. also if you are coming around that time bring a jacket its f**kng freezing in winter here.. not temp wise but so damp and windy
