Darlin', I'm from Orlando, Florida. Three of my 4 grown children live in Florida. I moved to Idaho May 2019....and I LOVE IT! I have no regrets! The people are amazing, the views are spectacular, no matter where you are. I live on the Idaho, Utah, Wyoming border, in Bear Lake County. Montpelier, ID, to be exact. The hospital, here is awesome and better then big hospitals. The doctors are great! Everyone knows my name, when I go grocery shopping. People look you in the eye, and help each other. I did live on the Arizona/Nevada Border, but escaped as violent crime is 62% because of the illegals....and it was too hot & dry, and the water is bad. You are recommended to NOT drink the tap water....and it burns when you wash dishes & shower, the water is so bad. Lake Mead is over 160 feet down, as Californication selfishly steals water. Earthquakes have been bad in the southwest, too. Living in Idaho, the winter is not as bad as I thought it would be. I loved it....tbe snow is powder not wet, slushy & easy to drive on. They keep the roads real clean, too. Boise & the west part of Idaho gets less snow, but Boise, Nampa, Eagle, etc., are too populated for me. Montpelier has 2800-3000 residents. Which is what I was looking for. A great community, away from the BS. Yellowstone is not very far away. Lots of fishing & hunting, goes on. The County Fair is awesome! I just can't get over how wonderful the people are....they are warm & inviting. I don't miss Florida, at all, as it has become one big megalopolis, crime ridden, illegals, druggies, and way over populated. I took a nursing travel assignment to Miami area, after Hurricane Andrew went through, and it was bad then, in 1992-93. So much corrupt government, it is sad. I hope you consider Idaho, seriously. You won't regret it.

That's so funny. Back in the '60s when I was going into the Navy, my girlfriends father said he knew someone that went in the Navy. He got stationed in Athol. Said it was an absolute mud hole and nothing to do. The Navy used to have airbasees around the country but most are gone and maybe turned into regional airports. I'm glad i did not end up there back then. I doubt I could live there now since I have lived in big cities all my life but I know a lot of people like it and good luck to them. Thanks for the tour!

that fog is caused by those lakes' surface waters being warmer than the air temps. clear skies allow for rapid radiant cooling...which creates a surface low, and draws cooler air across the surface waters, which are often 20f+ warmer than the air at night. this is what causes that fog. just note, fog and 32f surface means black ice. ice is a bigger issue in north idaho...much bigger. minor ones occur every 2-3 years. major ones happen every 7-10 years...causing lasting power outtages, road closures, fallen trees and boughs, and even roof collapses. do your research, know your situation. my adopted sisters bio-mom lived in athol for many years, then the great ice storm of 1995 happened, and we had to find temp housing while insurance repaired her house (large, heavy fallen pine boughs. a friend north of spirit lake, in the backwoods lost powergrid access for nearly 6months. this was in the very early days of the internet...but today, that too would go out. fortunately, they had site2site 2way radio, coz the landline went out, and there were no cell towers in the area at the time. they were on a diesel genny for power, and wood for heat...sat TV. if you're a good part prepper, then these become only convenience matters.

Yes, Athol has trains. Athol is in the middle of the "Funnel". The Funnel is the BNSF railroad from Spokane, WA to Sandpoint, ID. The name Funnel is from the two railroad lines being combined between these points. At Spokane the railroad splits with one line going to Seattle, WA and another going to Portland, OR. At Sandpoint, ID one line goes to Missoula, MT and Billings, MT and points east and the other line goes up to Bonners Ferry, ID then east across Northern Montana (the High Line) to Minneapolis and Chicago. There is another railroad line through Athol (Union Pacific) from Spokane that goes up to Sandpoint, Bonners Ferry and up to Canada. The Funnel is a favorite location for railroad buffs to watch trains in beautiful scenery.

5 acres of land can't be worth 200k by itself.. but let's assume that's what they're charging JUST for the land, that'd mean they're still charging 300k just to build a 2000sqft non-custom house... THAT is insane.

You nailed it, I am in my sixties and been in construction all my life. My wife and I have been checking on homes around the country and seems the RE agents are very cocky as in they really believe the prices that they quote are a deal. I lived for quite a while in Alaska so I know that there are some unexpected cost most folks don't know about when building but this is excessive. Wait until all the people and there are millions of them because of the massive hit our economy just took realize they can't afford that 500 thousand dollar shack they bought, reality is coming and the normalcy bias will not save them from the fact America is not the same place it was 7 months ago. Good catch though, if you saved there will be some huge bargains in the coming years.

Take me 25 minutes to get down off the mountain to Dufort Rd. onto the 95. Then another 25 minutes or so into Sandpoint to the Walmart. Its another 35-40 minutes or more if I go the other way into Hayden. Great video, yes Athol is beautiful but its getting more and more crowed. The on road use of 4wd recreational vehicles was one of the selling points for us. It's very cool to be able to hop on a quad or side by side, drive through town and straight in to some of the public lands, paper company land, etc... Or just take it up to the grocery store in the summer for fun. Also no helmet law, so if your comfortable with it, you don't have to bother. North Idaho is truly unique and I hope it never changes!!

@A A D Where did you move to in TX? I'm a native Texan, but fled the heat/humidity 20+ years ago. Lived in the Pacific Northwest for 20 years, and have now been in the SF area for 5 years. Many leaving CA are fleeing because of cost of living, but there are also a TON of conservatives leaving CA because of how liberal and socialist/politically correct it has become. The Social Justice Warrior majority here cannot tolerate anyone who doesn't believe in anarchy, tearing down the state while simultaneously preventing anyone from expressing a different opinion. They want laws enacted to restrict every aspect of our lives. Some of those fleeing to your state are your allies. They've seen where the liberal road leads and want out. With the exception of those moving to Austin (I know, lived in Austin for 15 years, before it became the national destination it is now), the Californians you are gaining are probably on your side. I promise you that they are not all bad people. I'll be one of them someday, although I can't move to TX again. Too hot !

Awesome, Kory! I was just thinking what types of areas are “desirable” in North Idaho. You wrapped a lot of information into that video! As I see emails of properties listing on Zillow, I often wonder about the neighborhoods. Sometimes, surrounding property prices are displayed and satellite imaging can give lot/home size. But here in Sacramento county, CA there are small pockets of higher value homes surrounded by lesser neighborhoods. If you have time for other such videos - this was packed with incredible information - perhaps areas of downtown Coeur d’Alene? Or is that not an area of your business focus?

More like, the "wrong kind of ppl". I have lived in rural Washington most of ,my life. Now alot of ppl have moverd in and simply changed the status quo over the years. It is no longer a small town. We have ppl here now who bring with them their city like attitude and $ to bid up our real estate. Taxes doubled within the last ten years. No longer the same.
@JacobWoodring
@JacobWoodring 3 жыл бұрын
@@peterandkodiak9762 Oh come on! Silverwood theme park and the new grocery store that is local to northern idaho... is what changed the pace of Athol. Most out of state people buy in Coeur d'alene and if they buy in Athol, they buy on the private road access areas and they flip a horrible maintained 2.5-5 acre plot to a decent plot of land. Change is good... but then again when that new grocery store came it KILLED the small grocery store and put them out of business FAST. So your logic is failed.

About 40 years ago I had a Thanksgiving dinner in Athol at this families beautiful cabin home. It was completely off grid. They lived off the land. All the food was wild game. Awesome experience. I doubt I'd recognize Coure De Alene. I lived there only about 3 months. It was winter and couldn't find work. I imagine the people that built their cabin got upset at any building going in. They loved being alone up there.

This community showed her awesome colors yesterday. It certainly started out very scary, resulting in government, community and neighbors lining up to evacuate people, property and livestock. As of this morning, the fire is 100% contained and was kept to 60 acres, no injuries, and only a motor home and out building were lost. The people of Athol and her surrounding communities rock! coeurdalenepostfallspress-id.newsmemory.com?selDate=20230816&goTo=A01&artid=1
