Waze, Escort, Google map. Washington/Northwest region winner by far is Waze. In conjunction with a radar detector is very effective to reduce the risk of speeding. Waze is used by most on the interstate's. Rural highways are detector only as of now. Another great video by Vortex Radar.

About a year ago on our trip from AZ to East MT. I was running a Uniden R1 and had Google Maps open running NAV. Soon as we got to Utah, Google Maps started talking like crazy "There's a speed trap ahead" I had no idea that Google maps even had that function, it was surprisingly really accurate and dependable. Those alerts, in conjunction with my R1 really helped a lot!!!

I use Highway Radar, only when traveling on highways. I haven't had a reason to use it too many times so far but it's been useful. It even alerted me to an obstruction in the road before the driver in front of me even saw it (and I had the notification distance turned down so I have since turned it up). It's very noisy, though. It alerted very loudly of police far ahead of me. I'm sure with more use I could understand what causes the noise and tweak settings to reduce it. I'm also always running an R3. I once went on a road trip with it and it notified me of kA around a curve on the highway (before I knew about Highway Radar), very far in advance. Cop was sitting in the left shoulder, presumably trying to catch speeders.

Thanks, another informative video! I have an issue with the "still there?" alert on WAZE, it disappears as soon as you reach the alert location. Frequently, I can't see if the threat is still there, until I'm right next to it and at that moment the alert message disappears. It would be better if they gave you a few hundred feet beyond the threat to react to the message. FWIW, I connect my RL 360c to my Android via Bluetooth running EL in the background. I use JBV1 in freestand mode with WAZE overlaid on it. I don't currently segment the RL 360c because I'm doing a 6 month test on which KA bands are used in my area (Tampa Bay), I'm keeping a record of every hit. I'll post the results on RD forum when the 6 month period is up (March). Thanks again!

I think your assessment is spot on. The only thing that wasn't mentioned is the fact that often I am needing driving directions at the same time I'm using jbv1 and my V1 gen 1 or Gen 2. So what happens is I end up running jbv1 because of its bells and whistles, I have to run Waze because of all the reasons that you mentioned, and then I end up having to run Google Maps for better directional guidance. Google Maps just seems to have much better algorithms for redirecting in traffic situations and also better guidance when directing around something like an unknown City. And as you mentioned the interface just seems to be a lot cleaner and better to follow if you're driving in a higher stress situation using the app for guidance. I would love to hear others response to this

I’m a big techie! I love all my tech gadgets. I actually do end to end device testing. I use google maps for my navigation. I don’t get any police alerts. Also you can’t record a speed check, accident, etc when using CarPlay with google maps. You can also get the haptic feedback on your Apple Watch when using google maps. But that hasn’t worked in a while. It’s a bummer cuz i love that feature. I like apple maps . But… I noticed the turning lane indicator isn’t as good compared to google maps. Example--there might be a straight lane and a left turn lane. I will have to turn left . Apple maps will show me just to turn left as if the left lane doesn’t exist. Where google maps wi have both lanes displayed but the straight lane will be grayed out. I have gotten a few police alerts in apple maps. I notice apple maps use to be really bad at pin pointing my actual location. The arrow on the map will be about 700 ft behind where i actually was on the road. The nav would tell me to make a turn after i passed the turn. It’s gotten a lot better and it’s useable now. I still prefer google maps bc of the lane guidance and it alerts which lane to be in way before apple maps. I just recently downloaded Waze. I am liking it. I use it for everything besides navigation. . Great for knowing what is up ahead. It’s pretty spot on. I love seeing the list on my route if what is ahead and how far i am away from the alert . Also, thanks to your videos and website i bought a R7 from a guy on RDF. It is coming today. Really excited for it. This will be my first radar detector. I will be getting a lot of use out of it for the holiday weekend!!

I’m running Waze and a Uniden R7 in the panhandle of Florida and, between the two, it’s been pretty accurate. I can’t wait until the iOS version of Highway Radar is released so I can add an extra layer. As for google maps, I tried it and the reporting doesn’t seem to be available when connected to apple CarPlay (or maybe I just missed it). I agree that the interfaces in both google and Apple Maps look better than Waze but I keep Waze open instead so that I can glance at the map/notifications to see them earlier than the 0.5 mile set point. Great channel, thanks for all of the great information.

Would be cool to see a follow up video on Apple Maps in about a year. I am curious whether you can tell Apple Maps to record a speed check alert using Siri and also whether the data actually becomes visible to other drivers, since you weren’t able to see that with the beta version. Regardless, I think the fact that it is an iOS-only solution inherently limits it and I expect to continue to use Waze.

In the uk radarbot is the best speed trap warning it alerts where historical traps have been even if not there at time of travel, very useful in case the present database isn't bang up todate. Plus it carries an audible warning announcing "potential speed trap ahead" allied to a count down meaning you don't have to look at the screen. Waze is a good sat nav and social networking tool for meeting prozzies but not as good for avoiding speed tickets
@sneakwastaken3 жыл бұрын
I think the reason there aren't many alerts on Google Maps is because it's used by mainstream users. They aren't interested in radar detectors or similar things. They just drive along mindlessly and use Google Maps. If they weren't using Google Maps they'd be using Apple Maps. While these have a lot of users, the users are ordinary people who just don't have interest in this stuff.

Google Maps sometimes tells me I'm driving in the exact opposite direction to what I am. Not reliable. I've also seen it tell me to exit and go east, when there's only one exit and it goes west on a highway. At speeds over 30 mph it also can tell you to turn in 1/4 mile, when you are either 50 feet or 1/2 mile from the turn. It has accuracy or latency issues.

@seashackf17 ай бұрын
As a big user of Waze I try to report only the important things which minimizes distractions. For hazards and police it’s only 3 touches. Once you’ve done it enough it’s easy not a big deal. I hope you can figure out a way to make it easier to report. We need as many people as possible doing it.
@BimmerWon7 ай бұрын
@@seashackf1 yeah, I’m not doing that out of principle. I don’t even look at the speedometer unless I get a notification for cops because what’s on the road is more important. Anything where I have to do so much as glance at unless it’s directions showing me how to get somewhere I’m unfamiliar with I consider a distraction. There have been many times where I unexpectedly had to react in a fraction of a second to avoid an accident due to terrible drivers and objects on the highway such as desks, office chairs, and metal ladders. So far I’m accident free for over 10 years of driving and I intend to keep it that way.
@seashackf17 ай бұрын
@@BimmerWon if it’s out of principle then shouldn’t you not use an app where others are doing the behavior you think is too dangerous to do yourself? You’re directly benefiting from others contributing to the app, but you refuse to respond in kind. If you’re that nervous a driver and have to be that focused on the road then having the app open itself is probably too much of a distraction for you. You probably also shouldn’t be speeding, otherwise it seems you’re just picking and choosing what’s too dangerous to justify your actions. Part of driving is assessing when it’s safe to do something and when it’s not. This is no different. You don’t have to do it all the time, just when it’s safe.
