I don't see this as a viable upgrade from the standard R8. If you have to reset the settings I manually put them back in it's faster to update it on your computer and then pull your configuration file back in. Please correct me if I'm wrong because I have the R8 that I purchased right after New Years and I don't see a reason for me to swap it out for this model

We can have 200MP telelens and 8K recording on a Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra or Apple IPhone 16 Pro Max. But we can't have a decent dashcam with a quality camera inside in 2025. Maybe i should get a dashcam app on my phone, my S24 Ultra has a splendid camera with multiple lenses. 😊

The usb-c cables must provide data and power simultaneously. This is the reason you're probably having difficulty because some usb-c cables only provide Power not both

Is it just me or why doesn't anyone create a camera that looks exactly like a rear view mirror? Plug and play ring a bell? The problem with all these cameras is that they are visible, as someone who is security focused the idea here is to allow the tech to blend in without it being so obvious and also make my car less likely to suffer a $500 window breakage because some Goblin thought it would be cool to run off with it.

I don’t know if anyone else has this issue with Windows 11 24H2 update having issues with connecting using Uniden Update version2.22? For me it doesn’t see the R7 when I connect to via USB but I do see the R7 in System Settings.

Some of these settings that are limited by the mobile and computer apps can be adjusted by editing the config file found on the memory card.

Using the R/TACH app to update the 8w is so much easier. It's kind of the point but it's good to know that is there is a disruption of some kind it can deal with it.

I was really disappointed the moment AI was mentioned. If the image sensor can't provide enough clarity for a human to read a license plate, AI isn't going to magically fix that. This feels like the wrong direction for a product that is already at a premium price point. Blackvue charges a lot, but it’s hard to argue that the value matches the cost anymore. The rep didn’t seem comfortable or knowledgeable about the product-there wasn’t even a basic acknowledgment of key specs like the sensor. A simple 'we’re using the same sensor' or 'I can’t speak to that right now' would’ve been better than just throwing around buzzwords like AI and cloud. Honestly, it's all a push toward turning what should be a straightforward purchase into a subscription-based expense. Overall, not impressed.

Dang, I just checked, I bought my 119 in 2016, it's still mounted in the same place, working perfectly fine. I'm in the north east, it's been up there in the dead of summer in North Carolina, and on a 2 week vacation in Costa Rica.

The connection to the GPS module got more and more loose on mine over time. Eventually it was powering down and up when hitting bumps. When I finally diagnosed it, the GPS module had warped and bulged. Changing the module fixed the connection problem.
