I went to highschool a block away from St. Viateur. Lunch was routinely a minute long walk to St. Viateur Bagel for hot bagels right out of the oven. We'd eat them while watching the baker make them.

Thanks for pointing out the brown fries. People just don't get that, as important as great gravy & squeaky-fresh curds are, it's Montreal's brown, sweet fries that make their poutine almost impossible to replicate. Regular hand-cut fries don't work, and gawd forbid you even think of making it with frozen yellow restaurant fries. C'est un sacrilège!

Fairmount Bagel is just two doors down from Wilensky's, no need to make a separate trip to St-Viateur Bagels which is another blocks away. Wilensky is now open on Saturdays too, but closed on Sundays, their normal opening hours are from 11:00am to 4:00pm.

I'm glad to be subscribed to this channel. My KZbin likes are based as much on the likeability of the presenter as it is on the content. Well, this channel has got both in spades; and I'll be happy some day to say I got in early on the ground floor. Please keep it up, Stephane! This review was great, and I especially appreciate the diversity of food reviewed. (I've ordered St. Viateurs to be shipped across the country to me before, so I might be a bit biased! :) )

Subbed the moment you said they were the best in the World, better than New York BEFORE having tried one. I used to be a St-Viateur boy but I prefer Fairmount nowadays. Ha! I don't believe it! I thought about leaving a comment about Ma pouile mouillée and their poutine and here you are trying it. You really hit some of the best spots.

I enjoyed this informative and well researched video. Your content here was definitely more diversified than the other Montreal best eats videos I've see. Your video is the only one I've seen that mentioned the Lebanese population there. I like how you featured more than one in some categories ie poutine, bagels. I am going to Montreal soon and plan to visit Ma Poule Mouillee. You proved to me how much of a better deal it is than La Banquiste (which I am not planning to visit). $15.75 for regular meatless poutine seems highly overpriced. Thank you for telling me about Fairmount Bagel. I will try both. I suspect St. Viateur bagels keep well in the freezer for later toasting. Does Fairmount sell bagels with toppings or do they just sell fresh bagels (with separate toppings) like St. Viateur?
@stephaneats39445 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! Thought it was important to highlight one of the many cultures that make Montreal such an amazing city. From what I remember, I think Fairmount just sell the bagels. Cheers!

@@stephaneats3944 I'm American and don't pronounce sandwich like that, I can hear a distinct Canadian accent when you say it. In fact I can hear your accent in every word you say, but "sandwich" is particularly strong.

La bankquise is absoutely garbage when they are overwhelmed. Fries are uncooked and grease bombs. They add something sweet and cinnamon to their fries. They miss the mark when they are way too busy as they ship food out without any quality.
