I have a pair of the Klipsch R-115SW. They usually retail between $799-$899 each. I got them new from Nebraska Furniture mart for $669 each. Funny how they will start dropping the price when you apply for credit and get that card right there. Anyways, these things are just insane with bass.. I remember when I was deciding between these and the svs stuff was I didn't like all the port noise from the svs. Yes the svs have more output than my Klipsch but I felt like you have to hide the svs behind a screen or some other furniture so I would not hear all the port noise. These Klipsch have no port noise and I have them front firing in my room. These subs damage house walls, love them.

I've been a big fan and owner of the HSU's subs..... I currently own the VTF 15H, I absolutely love the subs. I have them paired up with the RF7 II powered by Emotiva . I still consider myself a very novice audiophile but the sound that comes out of this setup is nothing short of clean and clear audio that would even tame the Jolly Green Giant!

Thank you for adding the HSU VTF-15H MK2! I have the VTF-3 MK5 and it is a total beast, very flexible in tuning and the best value for the under $1000 category as you rated on your comparison. Agree that the VTF-15H MK2 belongs in the under $1500 list, glad you corrected this initial oversight.

I am James Larson, author of the article that this video is based on. I am seeing a lot of comments noting the omission of Hsu's subs. The reason why I did not include Hsu is that they don't have a product that gets very close to the $1,500 price range. The shame of it is that the VTF15h mk2 is actually quite competitive with any of these other subwoofers. Perhaps I should have included it for that reason. We may amend the article to include the Hsu VTFh mk2 in the Rosenut finish. I am so sorry about not including Hsu and apologize if we have hurt anyone's feelings. If you are a VTF15h mk2 owner, please don't take the omission personally. I am a VTF15h mk2 owner myself and would have a very difficult time choosing between it or any of the other subs on this list. Please try to have a safe and happy holidays, James Larson

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family James. We appreciate your work! I like the fact based, truthful, reviews and vids that you and Matthew do for this channel. Thanks a lot. One other manufacturer I would consider that specializes in subs is Power Sound Audio. They have an extremely large following on the forums. In the under $1,500 price range, they offer the S1812. It is a sealed design, with an 18" neodymium extreme duty woofer from B&C in Italy (for the bachelor's that don't have to worry about the WAF this driver is bigger than all the drivers that made the list) with a 4" 4 layer aluminum voice coil, a 1,000W amp, weighs 80 lbs. and has XLR inputs. Plus, it is built in the U.S.A. In the past, the owner of PSA (formerly, the owner of SVS) has offered Christmas discounts on multi-sub purchases for those calling in and purchasing direct. They also offer free shipping, a 60-day free trial and a 5 year warranty.

@@racesla perhaps rel is not the same categories as the sub mentioned. those sub in the video is more of slamming bass, explosion bass and ground shaking bass. But when talking about rel...they dont do so. they focus so much on sound quality, or adding the mid bass to make the music more "fuller". and if u cranked them up to give u that grouding shaking bass, you might damage rel sub. This is what i am guessing why rel was not in the video due to different functionality at all. Correct me if i am wrong. i own rel and other brand of sub...so i know a bit of what i am talking about.

I've tried a lot of SVS subwoofers, including the PB-3000. For the money it is everything you said it is. For music I preferred sealing up the ports and switching the app to sealed mode. In fact I enjoyed the sealed mode so much I went with the SB16-Ultra ultimately. A little more expensive, but man what a sub. I can't say enough about SVS customer service, and their bill of rights. Top notch company who knows how to treat a customer. 👍🏻👍🏻

If I had a PB-2000 without any "sealed mode" option, would sealing up the port still be an improvement for music?

I agree. Ported is great for raw output, but a sealed box of equal quality always sounds better to me. Great choice on the SB16.👍
@1FastGXP3 жыл бұрын
@@HereticHulk sealing up the PB-2000 is not recommended. The DSP isn't setup for that functionality, so do so at your own risk. I'm still using my Boston Acoustics VR 2000. After 24 years without any Problems, 4 weeks ago, suddenly he makes a terrible hum noise. I find a small electronic shop with a very talented owner. He looked after the sub and after a few days, we talked about the damages and the possibilities. So I had to decide repairing or buying a new one. Ok I decided to let him repair. He refreshed the whole circuit board, the cabs and power supply etc. The loudspeaker membrane is still, after 24 years looking like new. Now the repairing costs were a third of the costs for a new subwoofer, I had in mind. Now he is sounding like new. I think it was the right decision. Gene loving your interesting videos. Good list and video, I currently own the Rythmik FV15HP (upgraded from a Klipsch R-120SW, and man was it a HUGE upgrade. What surprised me the most (other than size/weight) was the power the Rythmik puts out. I'd say the power rating on the Rythmik is conservatively rated as it performs as if it had WAY more power than what is advertised. I run it in 1 port setting only running 2db HOT and man, this thing is insane. The amount of bass over the R120 is just ridiculous, it literally gives that deep chest hit/pump and it is so refined and clean without needless rattle or distortion. I am wondering what it would be like If I ran it 6db hot as recommended on the forums or hell, even a second FV15HP... one of these days maybe. For anyone looking at the Rythmik, I can definitely recommend it 100%. You will not be disappointed by the power and clean/refined bass this subwoofer puts out. My Movies feel way more immersive than before and movie watching has become fun and enjoyable once again.

If they all perform great then I feel like you just pick the cheapest one, or the one you think fits best in your room? It's a big purchase, yet subs are something that are really hard to demo. These SVS subs where about the same price (Each) as the Ultra cube 12, but in a different league all together. I thought of selling the Ultra cube but can only get about half I paid for it, so I am running all 3 subs because I can. I picked up a Marantz SR 8012 and some Klipsch in ceiling Atmos for 7.3.4 setup. I ran the Audyssey and did some manual tuning, it sounds awesome in my home Theatre now. I am still thinking of some Base Transducers in the couches because everyone needs those right ? lol, the sickness continues as I now want all SVS Ultras and that means another amp etc etc like I said, the sickness continues and is anyone room ever finished ?

Excellent & informative content as always, Gene! Upgrade bug is here. I currently have dual SVS PB1000 pros. I want superb high output, but want to keep the tight bass aspect of the subs I have right now, plus super low distortion (at low frequencies/high output). I’m either going to go with dual Monoprice Monolith 15in THX Ultras or SVS PB3000s. Which one do you recommend?

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year ,been a fan of the channel long time ,I have a Velodyne DD 15 a Klipsch SW120 behind the couch and recently picked up a limited red Rel T9i ,honestly I am amazed what this little sub can do on 2 channel music listening with my towers up front with their high level connection off the main amp , but connecting the second connection (LFE) this thing kicks butt . Would really wish you'd try to do a review and also they're Predator line , small subs but great bass and value .

My Q is, current tech, is there any sonic improvements in subs above $1.5? I use a 20 year old Velodyne HGS 15 that was over $2k 20 years ago! But, I suspect what you had to pay that $ for 20 years ago to get great base for music, likely costs half that today. Back then, there was not many companies making great subs that sounded great for 2ch music, vs thump thump for HT. I get the distinct impression one does not need to spend more than $1-1.k today to get great base that 2ch listeners like me will be happy with.

So the System I’m building. Is a 7.1 of tower speakers, each with dual 8” drivers extending to 35hz +-3db. They’re all made of CMMD cone materials, and I’ve been wanting to continue that CMMD trend into the subwoofers that bridge the gap of 35hz to 20hz. I’ve been debating getting a pair of infinity Intermezzo 1.2 subs off ebay (don’t none of you weasels go and snipe them!) that sub will take the system down to 23hz and seems to be the best CMMD sub available. Alternatively the CSW-10 is CMMD and extends down to 22hz driven by 650watts. While the Intermezzo 1.2 is 850watts continuous, both have fairly small cabinets but the 1.2’s cabinet is cast alluminum. I’m also shopping for some serious amplification for those towers. I may bi amp them with my class-D Pioneer SC-25 dedicated to bass. I’m also considering getting a pair of stereo Adcom 555ii’s locally for $400 a piece. 200watts per channel there with beefy caps and toroidal transformer riding a very spartan Nelson Pass design. They also can monoblock. I’m a little worried about the hassle of possibly needing to recap them.

finally added second X12 few months ago along with Paradigm 525 Power amp. adding 2nd X12 made the bass at the back seat so much better, what good about X12 is its size is very good for fast movement for music also. may be one X15 might do the job or two X12 might be better for bass distribution cost $100 extra over one X15. .

Great video. Im in a small room and got a Supercube2000 with my Marantz SR6014, have another old sub connected and 9 speakers for the atmos, 4 angled downward speakers for the ceiling speakers. Im looking at replacing my old Sony sub. I was looking at the Supercube6000, since the SC2000 sounded clean to me. Do you think the SB4000 might be a better choice? Im looking for something compact with alot of punch. Id like to take it up a notch from the SC2000 while still utilising it.

Reduced room modes (smoother in room response), increased head room, reduced distortion, lower F3, smaller subs are easier to move and position in room. Multisub! Preach on brother!!! I'd much rather have 2 10" subs for say $800 (RSL Speedwoofer 10s as an example) than one 12" for the same money (SVS SB200 Pro). Nothing against SVS, they are great, but not great enough to overcome twin sub woofers. Bose really screwed us up with that acoustimass module in their cube setup. We should have never gone away from multiple woofers.

Another excellent video and the information is very useful. Gene was struggling to remember Hoffman's Law. Also, I recently obtained an Emotiva BasX12 subwoofer on Craigslist for $200.00. Best 200 clams I ever spent on audio. Mind you, the new Emotiva subs are certainly better, but this one is very solid, well behaved, and sounds excellent on almost all material. It's mated to a pair of Klipsch R15PM powered speakers and an FX audio DAC. The sound is dynamic, balanced and total cost of system was about $250.00 since I traded for the speakers. To me, full range sound is 20 to 20K cycles. Getting very close here for very little money. Feel like being an evangelist for low cost, great sound and Gene and his crew help in this.

Iam in the process of building out a new home theather. The svs pb3000 and the monolith thx 15 both duel are on my short list. The issue i have choosing is the height of the sub will affect the size screen i can get. I am foing the 2.35 route as large as i can get with the subs under the screen. The monoliths are taller than the svs so we have to do sum measuring. Iam leaning towards the monolith. After watching reviews it seems the monolith extended down to single digits more than the svs. Not sure what that sounds like but iam excited to hear. I hope i can reach out to you for advice when the time comes. Love the channel.....
