Mod Podge Transfer Method / Ink Jet vs. Laser Jet Printer / Will both work??
The number one question I get about my signs and how I make them .....is
Can I use an Ink Jet printer to make Mod Podge graphics or do I need a laser jet printer?
In today's video I am going to print out graphics on both printers and show you the end result.
You might be surprised!
By using these techniques you can learn how to make that distressed, farmhouse, rustic chic home decor that I love! Once you master this, your crafting can be taking to the next level!
Graphic is available for purchase on Etsy www.etsy.com/ca/OurUpcycledLi...

you don't have to crumple the paper .. just use special transfer paper for sublimation printing and the paper will peel off beautifully.....

If you're doing a distressed sign that you want to look aged I think the inkjet graphic compliments the aged look. You can always go in with prismacolor pencil to enhance the copy a little bit. 👍 Thanks for showing the two types of printer ink processes. Very helpful.

Thank you for the comparison. For the Inkjet = What you can also do is OVER Sharp your image, especially if transferring photos. Then get crazy, you can OVER Saturate any colors. Like it will be "too much," then when printing, do the highest quality = more ink is put down. Print, let it dry for a bit, completely dry, then do the Mod Podge. I always thought it odd that tutorials say it's not possible to transfer if using an inkjet. The OVER saturation and the OVER sharpening help make up for the result you're seeing here, which is flat, out of focus.

The channel, “Red Rocking Bird,” has a tutorial with an inkjet, and it worked great for her. She doesn’t use hair spray, but I have heard that might help. I haven’t tried it myself, yet, but I do want to try it. I have learned so much from both of your channels. You are such a great teacher. Thank you, for showing the difference, so we can explore, with the tools we have. I noticed one thing she did differently, is that she worked in small sections, to wet it, and rub it down, so that may have helped her. Since it wasn’t all wet at once, it didn’t give it time to smudge.

What a great video tutorial! I only have an inkjet printer and the question you answered by comparing the inkjet to the laser jet was really valuable and informative. Thanks! The grammar nerd in me has to comment on the pronunciation of the Mod Podge product. It’s NOT modge podge - the first word is MOD. It’s a mistake I hear all the time, though, because it’s so easy to do!😂 I think it may have been named Mod Podge because, years ago, mod meant new and improved. Anyway…please forgive my fanaticism! Good morning and Happy Easter! I use ink jet, but treat it more like rice or decopage paper. I dont flip the image, but rather use the whole thing. I buy cheap printer paper, its thinner and is easy to work with, plus I dont have to do the extra step of peeling the paper off. If you hair spray your image, it's less likely to run the colors...just a thought. I love your videos and how you teach, thank you.

Hi from Lapland 👋🏻😊 i would like to leave a comment regarding ink jet transfers: i do also like the rustic look, but keep in mind that, ink jet prints strongly fade in the sun! Found ur videos while researching color graphic transfer onto wood. Your tutorials are very informative and I absolutely love the fact that u get down to business quickly. I have a question about the graphic transfer with an inkjet; I've watch several of your other videos on this subject and I noticed when you decoupaged ur camping pics and the graphic on the aged paper that you low baked then sprayed with hair spray to prevent bleeding (inkjet)...would this same process work with the reverse prints for total transfer (paper removal) or could it perhaps lessen the "bleeding" of the ink?
@OurUpcycledLife
@OurUpcycledLife Жыл бұрын
When doing the reverse technique with an inkjet printer it won’t make a difference if you put it in the oven and actually if you put hairspray on it it will prevent it from transferring as well

Hi there! Glad you found me! Love new crafting friends. When using a ink jet you just have to use very little water and rub off in small sections at a time. It is a bit trickier but it can be done. Here is another video that will help you out :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGKaiKCrmKqqp68

I'm not a huge fan of ink jet printers for many reasons, including that a printed letter on a laser jet is infinitely cleaner without fuzzies - experience with an ink jet is poor quality or not crisp, clean letters on simple black & white printing. Having had this experience from years ago has really slanted me away from the ink jet. However, I do use an ink jet for photo printing and have good success, but it requires a top quality ink jet in my opinion. I say if you have a choice and are not looking for fuzzy of distressed use a laser printer. I really appreciate your comparison however, I can see that distressed-look crafters may well want an ink jet to accomplish this without having to use an abrasive to tone down their signs.

If I just have a few, I take them to somewhere like Staples or Office Depot for the Laser Jet. It's just a few cents more.

Thanks for taking the time to make and upload the video. I was wondering why there are two white blobs below and to the left of the word coffee on the laser jet sign?

I have used both, i'm not sure about the mod pod she used but I do know the dishwasher safe mod pod seals the picture in better where you don't wipe away the photo as much.

I would invest $125 in a cheap laser jet but ink jet does give you weathered look add dots , dashs and other artifacts around and between letters in light brown anbd cream done right instant weathered sign even better weather the wood first

Thank you for sharing the video. This is the first side by side comparison that I see on KZbin. Others only say "inkjet isn't possible. You showed that it's not true. It is possible with the inkjet printer as well. And, in combination with distressed would, it's maybe even more suitable. I don't own an inkjet printer anymore. When my last one died, I switched to laser.

YOU GOT A PIECE TORE OF THE LASER AND INKJET DOESN'T LOOK TOO BAD AND NOTHING TOUCH UP PAINT AND VARNISH COULD MAKE MORE CLEAN. I WISH I COULD HAVE AN INKJET PRINTER, BUT STUCK ONLY WITH SMALL PORTABLE PRINTER. IT'S OKAY FOR DOING MY CARD'S BUT NOT MUCH MORE.

I wonder if you put the Transfer medium on the wood, rather than on the inkjet picture would it smudge less? You wouldn’t be dragging your brush across the inkjet print merely laying it down on the prepared wood. Just a thought. Love your demos x

I did try that technique and it didn’t make any difference. It’s the actual rubbing I found that took the image away. Worth a try though might work for you ❤️

Did anybody else see that she squeezed out excess water onto the ink jet print after saying "Do not use too much water"? No wonder the ink started to come up.
