A long lost yet the most powerful and durable engine even produced by Royal Enfield, the AVL engine aka A350/Machismo/Thunderbird 1st generation which was discontinued as the market called it to be a stupid machine because the clanking sounds was almost impossible to be controlled. i have a 2000 model avl machismo. had frequent problems due to poor oil flow resulting in high noise, and wearing out of the parts. finally traced the issue to partially blocked oil flow hole near the pump which was a casting/manufacturing defect. replaced the entire timing cover. also there was play in crank. rectified both and now it still runs smooth. revs like a 2 stroke, very good pickup.

I used to have a Machismo A350 2003 Model. Performance-wise it was amazing but this Tapped Noise irritates me a lot. Agencies Guys were not even ready to repair it but I found a Mechanic in Meerut, he solved the issue.

I own a Machismo 2002 model, 350 CC. I just want to know, how can you say that the tapping sound the engine makes as a manufacturing defect?? Did the company said that as a manufacturing defect?? During initial days of my using the vehicle i too felt that sound the engine makes is something not normal unlike other Royal Enfields, but over a period of time i accepted the fact that the engine is built or made in that style, it does a good sound like a sewing machine... My gut feeling is that don't change the original make..

Not necessarily, if someone has intensive knowledge about parts, there are OEM (same as original) and some brands being original supplier for a different vehical brand manufactures quality parts for another vehicle brand for which they are not the original supplier, quality will be good as original but for at lower cost. Cables, lock set, switch gears, levers, piston, oil seal, bearing, packing kits break calibers and so. Sometimes better than original like engine oil, piston

I had Machismo 500 limited edition but had to sell it because Royal Enfield didn't even have stocks for replacement parts. Even a basic thing like Decompressor wire was not available and they told me to wait for 1-2 weeks. Fortunately since it was a limited edition, I sold it for higher price than my buying price after using it for 6 years. Switched to Thunderbird 500 UCE which is much more reliable but the I still miss the excellent torque of AVL engine.

@@my_life-my_rules. It has more torque than Classic but also the engine makes more noise (tappit noise) and more vibrations. But the maintenance and spare parts hassle IMO is not worth the effort. If u need old school Bullet go with Bullet 350 CI or Electra CI as spares won't be a issue, plus you'll find specialist CI mechanics who can easily maintain these bikes.
