I can't even take in how genius it is really. I gotta say one of my personal favourites is in Sunglasses by Black Country New Road. The live version changes the lyrics a bit from "And you cannot touch me" to "and you cannot fucking touch me", and I love it because it matches the crescendo the lyrics are doing, hyping up the insanity of the protagonist (and Isaac does a great job with the desperation and aggressiveness). Also, that's the point the sax comes in for the first time in that part of the song, and it's just amazing every time.

The increase of anger in the song works so well even with it being a shorter song. It stand out, to me at least, because the following songs don't reach that same level of anger. Especially since the Life Less Frightening talks about settling for anything better than what there is right now. It's a great starting track that I still listen to consistently.

Brad could u do a stream of like Most Vicious Diss Tracks outside of the hip-hop realm? My suggestion would be Mudhoney's Into Yer Shtick, a brutal teardown of Courtney Love in the wake of Kurt Cobains death by one of his close friends and someone Kurt really looked up to Mark Arm of Mudhoney who despised Courtney, one verse goes at hole guitarist Eric Erlandson for him dating a teenage celebrity for the publicity and another going after Hole's manager at the time. The final line of the first verse, "Why don't you, blow your brains out too?" is quite possibly the most unrelentingly venomous lyric to come out of the grunge scene, especially considering when the track was released. Another track i'd reccomend is "Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth" by the Dandy Warhols, a dig at the frontman of the lesser known garage rock band The Brian Jonestown Massacre for his heroin addiction which had been slowly deteriorating the band, their friendship with the Dandys, and his own mental state, the song was intended to be a wakeup call to him, but he took complete offense to it, wrote a response called "Not if you were the last Dandy on earth", theres a whole documentary narrated by Courtney Taylor, the vocalist of The Dandy's, about the massive feud that formed in the wake of the songs release between the two bands and went on for YEARS, with Anton, the vocalist of the BJM who the song was about, becoming completely delusional and obsessively stalking them. Even going as far as to send them a package of 9mm bullets with each of their names written on them in the mail.

Knocked Loose's "Mistakes Like Fractures" goes just about as hard as any song I've ever heard, and it's largely because of the line right before the breakdown: "I followed the rabbit, and I found my fucking ending" Really gets you amped up for the heavy part like a good call out line should. this may be a very basic take, but I don't care: Laura by Billy Joel definitely has my favorite instance of profanity in a song. That song is the basically the only time he every cursed in his music and he definitely picked the right time to use it. That whole song makes me wanna rip my hair out in the best kind of way.

Kim by Eminem is a prelude to 97" Bonnie And Clyde on The Slim Shady LP where he rationalizes his actions to his daughter and has her help him dump kims body in a lake

Big fan of Erykah Badu’s incredible build to the single curse word in her masterpiece Green Eyes. The song is her struggling to figure out whether she should be angry with herself for being tricked, or angry at her ex for tricking her. It goes through all the stages of grief, with acceptance merely granted theoretically as the song ends. But the incredible build as she ventures from laughing about how dumb she was, to a painful realization that because she doesn’t know why, it may just happen again. The way her voice is supported but waivers as she says “but I don’t know why I fuck with you” is still, in my opinion, the best use of an F bomb in a song. If you ask me? It’s the greatest break up song of all time.

The ending of U Dont Know from Jay-Z has always stood out to me bc of the profanity. The 'fucker' before the beat drop just adds to the triumphant "you cant stop me no matter what" feel that the song has.

The Unnamed Feeling by Metallica's lyrical breakdown is one of my favorites. Also, pretty much any NIN profanity feels right with Trent's voice, Somewhat Damaged is an example i particularly like.

my favorite example of this is from "laura" by billy joel. only time he dropped the fuck word in his entire career and i think he picked a great spot for it. laura is such an excellent song, one of his best imo and that "here i am feeling like a fucking fool" hits EVERY time

First time I was ever shown Kim by Eminem the part that suck with me was the “kim?KIM?! Why don’t you like me?” line. Eminem sounds like an actual nut job in that moment and it really makes the track less gratuitous than something like down with the sickness.
@clotslurp2 жыл бұрын
For electric Wizard you should’ve also done “Return Trip” with the line “I hope this fuckin’ world fuckin’ burns.” Out of context in a comment like this it may come off as edgy, but combined with the rest of the crushing bassy monolith guitars and the haunting pissed vocals it helps to create an atmosphere of pure hellish misery.

Kind of a different one because it’s crowd/concert setting specific but my personal example: towards the start of the second verse of Gold Steps by Neck Deep there’s a “fuck!” in the background that really just doesn’t do much in the studio recording, but in live shows everybody yelling fuck as loud as they can for that bit is so much fun
@theskepticaltaco73402 жыл бұрын
My favorite from tool will always be Eulogy from aenima. There's no cursing up until the line "would you die for me? Don't you fucking lie." I interpret that as a follower standing up and challenging their leader to follow through on their promises. Maynard drops another f bomb like 3 lines later, but this is the real turning point of the song where everything goes wrong for the religious leader maynard sings about.
