Closer is the extremely obvious choice but NIN in general have used profanity in such a way that it defines them. Does profanity in Eminem's "Kim" wherein he brutally slaughters his wife, her boyfriend, and a 4 year old boy really qualify as "Greatest use of profanity in a song"??? I can't even take in how genius it is really. It's the most raw awful emotion and comes off as Eminem having an actual delusional breakdown, and yet some of the lines are so perfectly written to point out his own hypocrisy and disgust with himself, and he bothers to still make it all rhyme which I feel like you barely notice cause of how overwhelming it is. It's an unmatchable blend of truth, fantasy, delusion, hyperbole, theatre and art and I have no idea how he pulled it off.

Hayley Williams - Simmer the like “a fucker like that man” is the first thing that came to mind. The fact that she first song that she used profanity in was her solo debut was beautiful. And coming from a punk rock band and using this line in a more mellow Alt pop song is fascinating. You can hear the rage in her as she sings that line finally writing down how much she hated him. She has been afraid to feel rage with her divorce due to her parents being split up aswel. But I think this rage created a beautiful and personally perfect song!

I gotta say one of my personal favourites is in Sunglasses by Black Country New Road. The live version changes the lyrics a bit from "And you cannot touch me" to "and you cannot fucking touch me", and I love it because it matches the crescendo the lyrics are doing, hyping up the insanity of the protagonist (and Isaac does a great job with the desperation and aggressiveness). Also, that's the point the sax comes in for the first time in that part of the song, and it's just amazing every time.
@jandcstopmotion7774

Yeah the album version gets rid of the swearing. The Single version has quite a bit more swearing, he also says “fuck me like you mean it this time Isaac”. I prefer the instrumental of the Album version, but I like the lyrics and delivery of the single version better.

@@jandcstopmotion7774 I got used to the new lyrics and delivery from the album, and I definitely understand him removing the "fuck me like you mean it this time" part (the big pharma part aswell),. Knocked Loose's "Mistakes Like Fractures" goes just about as hard as any song I've ever heard, and it's largely because of the line right before the breakdown: "I followed the rabbit, and I found my fucking ending" Really gets you amped up for the heavy part like a good call out line should. If you take the swearing out of that line, it would seriously weaken the song. Really hope you make a part 2 of this and check it out.

One of my favorites is State of the Union by Rise Against. The "We're taking on water and about to fuckin sink" is a line that the first time I heard it caught me off guard. The increase of anger in the song works so well even with it being a shorter song. It stand out, to me at least, because the following songs don't reach that same level of anger. Especially since the Life Less Frightening talks about settling for anything better than what there is right now. It's a great starting track that I still listen to consistently.

Personally one of my favourite examples is the way Corey Taylor screams "FUCK!" at the beginning of The Negative One right between the pause of the main riff and the drums coming in. It's so visceral and angry sounding, and just immediately tells you the song is going to be a rager from the beginning.

Big fan of Erykah Badu’s incredible build to the single curse word in her masterpiece Green Eyes. The song is her struggling to figure out whether she should be angry with herself for being tricked, or angry at her ex for tricking her. It goes through all the stages of grief, with acceptance merely granted theoretically as the song ends. But the incredible build as she ventures from laughing about how dumb she was, to a painful realization that because she doesn’t know why, it may just happen again. The way her voice is supported but waivers as she says “but I don’t know why I fuck with you” is still, in my opinion, the best use of an F bomb in a song. If you ask me? It’s the greatest break up song of all time.

For electric Wizard you should’ve also done “Return Trip” with the line “I hope this fuckin’ world fuckin’ burns.” Out of context in a comment like this it may come off as edgy, but combined with the rest of the crushing bassy monolith guitars and the haunting pissed vocals it helps to create an atmosphere of pure hellish misery.

Brad could u do a stream of like Most Vicious Diss Tracks outside of the hip-hop realm? My suggestion would be Mudhoney's Into Yer Shtick, a brutal teardown of Courtney Love in the wake of Kurt Cobains death by one of his close friends and someone Kurt really looked up to Mark Arm of Mudhoney who despised Courtney, one verse goes at hole guitarist Eric Erlandson for him dating a teenage celebrity for the publicity and another going after Hole's manager at the time. The final line of the first verse, "Why don't you, blow your brains out too?" is quite possibly the most unrelentingly venomous lyric to come out of the grunge scene, especially considering when the track was released. Another track i'd reccomend is "Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth" by the Dandy Warhols, a dig at the frontman of the lesser known garage rock band The Brian Jonestown Massacre for his heroin addiction which had been slowly deteriorating the band, their friendship with the Dandys, and his own mental state, the song was intended to be a wakeup call to him, but he took complete offense to it, wrote a response called "Not if you were the last Dandy on earth", theres a whole documentary narrated by Courtney Taylor, the vocalist of The Dandy's, about the massive feud that formed in the wake of the songs release between the two bands and went on for YEARS, with Anton, the vocalist of the BJM who the song was about, becoming completely delusional and obsessively stalking them. Even going as far as to send them a package of 9mm bullets with each of their names written on them in the mail.

My favorite from tool will always be Eulogy from aenima. There's no cursing up until the line "would you die for me? Don't you fucking lie." I interpret that as a follower standing up and challenging their leader to follow through on their promises. Maynard drops another f bomb like 3 lines later, but this is the real turning point of the song where everything goes wrong for the religious leader maynard sings about.

Funeralopolis by Electric Wizard is another great example. The entire song is a buildup of the rage and nihilism driving it, until it explodes into the frenetic outro, which is the only part of the song with actual profanity. The repeated, progressevily more distorted calls of "Nuclear warheads ready to strike/ This world is so fucked, let's end it tonight" cement this track as the crown jewel of one of the definitive doom metal albums.
