What do you do with your favorite purchase of 2023 that hasn't failed you yet? Well, you push it to the brink of failure and see what happens. Today, we take the PSA Jakl 10.5" SBR and see if she can push through a muddy situation. Her gas block is all the way open and can hopefully prosper in these crazy conditions. Do you think she has what it takes? Regardless, she's been my favorite rifle to shoot in 2023 and it reflects with how much I've used it!!!! AWESOME JOB ‪@PalmettoStateArmoryVideos‬

1:05 that's wild that you put 10,000 rounds through your Jakl. I'm surprised you did make a video just about that alone. After seeing Grand Thumb burn 4k through a $400 PSA AR15 I've been dying to know how durable the Jakl is and how long it will maintain its accuracy and reliability.

I made a few videos on the jakl and assumed it would’ve been beating a dead horse. She’s been perfect and still groups at 3MOA or less. Was never really a tack driver but very okay. I love this gun a lot and when you shoot it suppressed, it’s just perfect. I will be running the hell out of her later this year once my cans get approved. Worried about needing a replacement barrel seeing as they don’t sell them and it’s proprietary.

@@cerebralfirearms I'm like 90% certain that barrel degradation is covered under PSA's lifetime warrenty. Though, You'll need to read up on details to figure out when it will be considered out of spec enough for RMA.

This is why di will always be king in terms of reliability, where as pistons are king in terms of versatility.

@@cerebralfirearms Likewise, my dude! Yep. Awesome platform. If only they fixed the rattling charging handle and distributed the weight a little better… still an awesome pew.

@DesertTactical the weight in the front plagues most piston driven guns but my major gripe is making the rail just a couple millimeters larger at the top to take it off the gas tube area. Feel like it heats up very quickly due to this. I changed my CH to the new one and it was A LOT better. Still rattles a little but not as much. I need to get my hands on one that’s not an SBR soon to see.

Mud is the Kryptonite of open piston operated rifles. That's why you have to stick with DI and bring a bottle of BreakFree/Baristol/oil with you for those extended firefights. Open piston systems in any weapon platform will fail when contaminated with mud.
@cerebralfirearms
@cerebralfirearms 4 ай бұрын
Yeah, I have a couple piston driven platforms and they mainly stay in my safe. I use the Jakl more than any of the others but DI is my main squeeze.

Can the charging handle work as a forward assist? Also try loading and chambering before mud and pick up and shoot. That’s the better test. Chambering post mud is asking to get mud embedded into the system before it has a chance to kick it out
@cerebralfirearms
@cerebralfirearms 7 ай бұрын
It worked for about 6 rounds. Then once I loaded another mag it was a no go. The issue was mud getting into the sled channel. It wouldn’t allow the sled to move and the round was stuck inside of the chamber. In reality, this was a pretty gnarly test. Only my ar15 passes this test but if it’s wanted I can do more platforms. Just a bitch to clean then oil after completely taking the rifle apart. I’ll try that at some point though, it’s a great idea.

@@cerebralfirearms the test parameters I shared are what in range tv does and they recently tested an ACR which was the first and only piston gun to flawlessly pass the test. So I’m curious if not racking the gun between mudding and shooting would give the Jakl 100% reliability since it also has a very well sealed bcg to Reciever fitment Maybe it’s all random chance whether mud gets in during firing but there’s only one way to find out!

Tge issue was when it got into the track system for the sled. That’s what really messed it up and you can’t cover that.

I gotta ask after that high of a round count does your charging handle mushroom the upper when you slide it home I have 100rds through mine and it's starting to mushroom the upper at the end of the charging handle travel
@cerebralfirearms
@cerebralfirearms 8 ай бұрын
Nothing that I’ve noticed at all. I’ll have to look again, but the only thing I’ve ever come into question about was the rubber buffer. I’ve changed it out three times. Each one only because I felt the rear end plate giving way and having a little extra wobble to it. Mind you also, mine is 10.5”. Not sure if that has anything to do with why mine isn’t noticeable but I’ve seen it a lot on the longer JAKLs. Once you break it in, I was able to toy with the gas settings to provide a super smooth shoot with or without suppressor. Fun gun for sure.

@cerebralfirearms ya mine is a 13.7 and the charging handle hits just enough to deform the front of its travel but I gotta play with my gas setting a little more
@cerebralfirearms
@cerebralfirearms 8 ай бұрын
Okay, so I finally got around to checking it and I wish I could upload pictures but it’s a small deformation at the end. It is risen compared to the rest of the rail and removed the whole cerakote where it slams home. Nothing horrible to be honest. If you want, hit me up on instagram and I can show you a picture.

@@dominicluciani584I have the 13.7 as well and I’ve sent a 100 rounds through mine I have the same mushroom effect I don’t think it’s to big of an issue I’ve seen a few others have the same issue just the design

So...the InRange test, the have a round loaded and THEN add mud. Pretty much EVERY gun will fail a mud test if you add mud and THEN rack the charging handle. Every single one. There none that will pass if you need to manually charge the handle after adding mud. Just FYI. I've seen this hundreds of times LOL, don't know why people do it the way you did.

Yes, the sled was very gritty to start then just locked up. It happens I slapped a lot of mud in there to take away from the, “You didn’t do enough” crowd.
