D.dot. Grime was originated by uk garage mc's and producers. Not a subgenre of hip-hop at all. UK Garage has a bpm of 132-140, hence the fast grime sound. The lineage is acid house, hardcore, jungle, house & garage, garage, grime. (All of these musical styles utilised MC's that would get the crowd energised in clubs). UK hip-hop ran parallel to these movements.

Whether grime is hip hop or not(don't really care), I don't see why people bring up the bpm. Drill uses those bpms too and they're hip hop. Small stuff like bpm, time signature, chords don't necessarily make up a genre. Lineage and style make the genre, and you're second point is what's convincing.

I'm not sure if similarities from an older tradition define a "sub-genre". Every style of music takes influence from something in some way. Are you going to argue Hip Hop is a sub genre of Funk? Is Jazz music a sub genre of Classical music based on similarities alone? I'd argue Grime has enough autonomy for it to be classed as a "genre" straight up. But I will also say this 1.The more you learn about music, the more you will realize labels are arbitrary, it's all just a lot of talk, usually from people who do not make music (ie. journalists) 2. Everyone wants to read the history online or in a book but history is only written and remembered through the imperfect memories of select individuals (if you have ever studied psychology you will know how inconsistent and selective human memory can be). The stories we create about our own past, can be riddled with errors, exaggerations and gaps. 3. Even if you can quote one grime legend, that is still not enough to deduct an answer, there are 100s of 1000s of people involved in the process of the history of something good luck finding every single perspective to fit your puzzle. You really have to keep an open mind to new ideas and understand you can really only speculate these things.

This was a good interview/argument, I remember watching this, vividly. OBVIOUSLY, for the obvious reason. I think both are right on some points but Jammer was deff most right. I think he was a bit out of order, the way he spoke to DJ Argue but at the end of the day, Jammer has been a huge part of the Grime Scene for many years. Literally since grime started. A lot of people say this and that about Jammer but at the end of the day, Jammer has done a lot for the scene. Just Lord Of The Mics alone was fucking huge but he also makes beats, spits lyrics, makes music vids, Lord of the mics etc and he’s helped many many artists by promoting them, putting em on Lord of the mics and he even let loads of artists make music in his basement. Yes, I agree that he can be a bit arrogant and somewhat rude but I think he kinda has the right to feel this way. Especially with some of the answers that argue is giving and especially how due to the fact that Jammer helped build the scene and helped it thrive, newer artists come along and take take take and put nothing back in. When you help build something and others come along and eat from that and put nothin back in, it’s going to make you feel a certain way. Anyway, great video. Obviously im mad late to this but heres my take. Jammmer is probably overcharging by like 30 quid but at the same time hes gotta earn a living. Pay the venue. Pay the artists. Pay the guys who probably come through with the audio equipment. The camerman ect. Jammers point about it being radio is a bit of a false equivalency since his is a show you buy tickets to even get into whereas anyone can access a radio show so monetising it is impossible but the dj shouldve clamped down on it and pointed out that the small ampunt of views it gets on yt would be nowehere near enough to pay the artists in the same way a show would. Argue was wrong in the way he approached jammer and it showed his arrogance when he didnt let jammer break down the costs of how much it actually costs to run the show when he openly offered it. If youre going to critique hin about how much he charges and then dont let him break down to you the reality of his overheads it is insulting and shows you dont really care if the ticket cost are actually reasonable because if you did thats the best thing he could do for you to form an accurate opinion.
