I suggest a follow up video proper storage of each type of vehicle. For example: Boats upside down to dry out, cars/trucks off their tires, and drones separate from their batteries. Still a noob and still learning. Thanks again

I am pretty lucky to have a dedicated RC storage and work space which half of my pretty big laundry room and I can go through a door to my garage/MTB-RC-and other stuff 🤫 Man Cave for cutting, grinding, painting, soldering or ultrasonic cleaning with a proper exhaust fan for keeping everything safe. You are so right, get lots of shelves and lots of bins... 👍

Thanks for the share. When everything is in order and the work bench is clean, it's easy to work. When it's a mess, it's two jobs always. The key is to know where to put stuff away so it's always fairly organized and one doesn't have to do periodic major clean/organize big job.

One other thing for the list that is very important to me is a place to keep all of my manuals . As RC hobbyists we all have a ton of owners manuals, weather they are from our rigs , the parts we put in them or even our tools, we all have an abundance of owners manuals. I use a small 3 drawer filing cabinet for this purpose and it works perfect without taking up to much room sitting under my workbench.
@RCReviewChannel
@RCReviewChannel Жыл бұрын
Yeah, storage is key. A good thing nowadays though is each manual on any car is now available online. And the online manual can be enlarged to any size for our tired old eyes.

1: Don’t store Lipo batteries in the house! 2. Buy a dvm/multimeter, and learn how to use it! All my students under 12 master this, so no excuses😎 3. Flux is the magic sauce for soldering, especially for beginners. Helping hands, self-gripping tweezers, blu-tac for holding your work.
@RCReviewChannel
@RCReviewChannel Жыл бұрын
Great advice. Thank you. The only tough one is the 'storing lipo in the house'. Outside, it can be subjected to extreme temperatures in some regions and lipos don't like that. Also, some housing doesn't have a lot of outdoor space.

One of the things people use now instead of a compressor is a device which was originally designed to blow the dust out of computers and now its used to clean the dirt and debris from r/c cars. It's small and handy, but you need a source of power.

I found myself doing far less field-repairs than i thought i'd do, so i reduced the tools i take with me and rather bring more LiPos or a second drone - and when everything is broken it's time to go home :D

ONXY makes a nice all around tool set that I always bring on the trails or bashing. I added the Traxxas multi-tool, Traxxas wheel wrench ( damn those fancy wheel nuts) and a safety pin...I use this to dig out whatever dirt is in the hex since that ALWAYS leads to stripped hardware. The MIP wrenches never leave the house or get loaned out.

Temperature of the soldering iron is less important than the size of the tip. Small tip = less stored energy that it can transfer into the solder joint. Large tip = plenty of energy to dump into the solder joint. The Weller SP80NUS is just about perfect for RC power connections using 10 and 12 gauge wire.

For RC stuff, which is mostly just wires and connectors, a cheap unregulated soldering iron of something like 50 watts is perfectly adequate. Of course a good soldering station is a joy to use and great if you do any other electronic stuff but not really necessary for just RC.

When you’re putting together a tool bag to take with you, try only working with what’s in it at home for a couple projects. Pretty soon you will have everything in it you will likely need. I don’t carry much for spare parts or tools when crawling, but bashing I pretty much take all my tools and most of the spare parts I have. I organize different plastic boxes by what car (or cars) they go with. I put the boxes I need in a fishing tackle bag and go.

My dewalt 8v gyro driver is absolutely fantastic. The ability to go very slow and have a variable rate speed etc WITH a very effective clutch make it the tool to use! I also have a large set of Wera drivers that I use but mostly use MIP bits in the Dewalt. The MIP are seriously good. Better than my wiha bits even. I carry a step 22 roll. Lots of ornization options, can hang it up with basically a bucket at the bottom (google pics - hard to explain) and keep a spare set of tools in it. I already have a spare set of auto tools in my Jeep anyway so I’m used to having duplicates.
