This is a video that I made of me performing a major cooling system upgrade to my 1965 Impala SS. I basically upgraded my car to better than what was considered heavy duty cooling from the factory. I installed a new upgraded radiator from U.S. radiators. My car was experiencing a problem that a lot of old cars have. They overheat while idling, or in slow traffic. This upgrade has made a huge difference. Thanks for watching please like and subscribe.

Glad to see someone working on a '65 Impala SS. I just bought mine back after selling it 30 years ago. Thought it was gone forever but tracked it down in just 4 days. It was just 40 miles from my place. It's in rough shape now, but can't wait to bring it back to its former glory. Keep making these videos; it gives me inspiration.

@@rushflare8208 Well, it's a bit of a story, but here goes. I remembered the name of the guy I sold it to since we worked at the same mill in a small town on Vancouver Island. I phoned all the people with the same last name and ended up getting the guy's dad. His dad told me he had moved to Saskatchewan. I thought the car had gone with him and that I'd never get it back. His dad gave me his phone number, so I phoned him. He answered and remembered me and told me he sold the car to some guy in our original home town. He didn't have the number though, just the name. I searched the guy's name and found his phone number. Took him a day to get back to me, but he told me he didn't own it long and sold it to another guy. Got his phone number and phoned him. He was only 40 miles from my new home town, still on the Island. He returned my call a day later and said yes, he still had the car. We met up and looked it over. It was in bad shape; left outside and run into a few times. I hummed and hawed for about 6 months and phoned him back and said I wanted to buy it. After he heard my story and knew that I bought it off the original owner, he decided to sell it back to me. He gave me the "I don't want to sell it price", but I paid it. Now it's in my name and I'm so glad to have it back.

I drop in a sbc 427 in my 65 and used a champion 4 row radiator, eldebrock high flow water pump, moroso high flow thermostat, dual 10" electric fans and running coolant crossover on the super victor 2 intake. Keeps the engine very cool 😎

Great job! I have a 65 biscayne. Even with an upgraded radiator without a fan shroud my car would overheat consistently. I just put a Halfmoon fan shroud open on the bottom and it worked like a charm. Thanks for the websites too.

I had a 327 SS and had a heating problem. I wanted to add draining valves to the lower block. I put the car up on a lift and carefully removed the plugs from the block. You'll never guess what I found. CASTING SAND in the cooling jacket. I tried to get it all out but I don't think I got it all. I should've taken it to the dealer. In those days, customer service was not at the top of their list. It was like everything wrong with the car was your fault and therfore not covered by the warranty.

My Breakerless SE electronic ignition is great. It's single wire so no one can see outside the cap that a modification has been made. It's also very forgiving of old distributors having some wear if that should be the case. These old engines need more initial advance with today's gas to run cooler. For a 1965 283, 4 to 6 degrees initial was originally called for, but 8 to 12 is what's needed now. I don't know off the top of my head how much is in the distributor, probably 24 degrees. I replaced the unknown Accel weights and springs in mine with NOS from a 1965 dated part number 1111015 Delco Remy 283 distributor, so I know I have a stock curve anyway.

I was pretty sure that shroud was on upside down. I had a 60 Impala with a 283 and had to put a new radiator in it. When you was first putting it in, I was think the triangle brackets were supposed to be up top. Great job once again, enjoying your videos!!

Did your radiator upgrade workout the problem? I just recently rebuild my engine and it's 60 over... I have a 3 core upgrade radiator already with an electric 3000 cfm push fan in front, but in the back I'm still using my mechanical fan with clutch and fan shroud. It didn't over heat before the engine rebuild. Do you have any suggestions for me. Also great video and thank you for being a member of my Facebook group... 1965 Impala's Only. Thank you for any help in advance

My car is definitely cooler than before, but if it’s 100 degrees and I’m not moving at all it will still get a little warm. I wish I could say it’s perfect, but it’s still not. It is a lot more manageable than before . Everyone says the timing can make a difference. Make sure it’s set perfectly.

You may want to move the fan blade back towards the motor so that the blades are about half in half out of the shroud.
