Peranakan dish are style from Baba Nyonya. They combined it Malay + Chinese style. And Baba Nyonya looks like Chinese but they didn't speak chinese, normally they speak in Malay or English. Peranakan dish famous in Melaka @ Malacca. Because there's where they were born and came from. The first meal that you tried, the true step is like how Ying shows. Not dipp in the sauce but pour the sauce into it.

Belanda is a Malay word referring to the Netherlands; Bahasa belanda is the Dutch language, orang belanda is a Dutch person, and so on. Peranakans are also called Baba Nyonya- literally "father mother"- or Nyonya. Auntie is delightful.

@@ainiarif6910 I'm not from Penang, but I do have to agree with clmc here. They're both really good, but overall, I prefer Winn's Cafe. For my taste, Winn's better and doesn't hit the wallet as hard... A bit cheaper. But if it's your first time trying Peranakan food, you won't be disappointed with either one.

Peranakan food is well known in Penang. Still lots of Peranakan ethnic group in Penang Every family's recipe can vary slightly different. Family recipes are passed down from generations. I think this restaurant might be quite new or maybe I haven't been back to Penang since Covid pandemic. Assam prawns all the special tamarind flavor is coated on the shell and head, can be messy to eat usually we go for the head first, sucking out all the flavor and whatever eatable part from the head then we go for the rest of the prawns,

Peranakan refers to Straits Chinese who first came over and settled in Melaka around the 14th century and married with the local Malays. The second batch that arrived in the 15th century settled in Penang, Singapore, Indonesia and parts of Thailand. The reason they are called Straits Chinese is because they first arrived in Melaka which is home to the Straits of Melaka.
