That was an "Absolutely Fabulous" tour of a top-notch nursery! It was amazing to see the rows of roses that looked like "Brush Strokes" in a painting---this is a place where I could live la "Dolce Vita" (the sweet life), & it was a "Double Delight" to hear you & Peter nattering on about roses as if "Papa"Meilland" was right there with you. Listening to you two was "Pure Poetry" "Scent From Heaven," and I felt as if I were the "One & Only" guest privileged to listen in to talk of "Chandos Beauty" (yessir, that name got me, couldn't do anything with Chandos!). I could imagine smelling the "White Parfum de Provence" on holiday in the south of France or at a gallery in Paris looking at a "Marc Chagall" exhibit, or enjoying a cup of "Koko Loco" (with a drop of creme de cacao!) and smelling the "Glorious Parfuma" of sophisticated ladies buying expensive art. The whole tour made me think "Avec Amour" of the "Delightful Bliss" of the "Parfuma" of my own garden here in the "Pacific Blue." This tour has been "Dee-Lish" & I thank you much for putting up with this whole "comment," the time spent writing of which has allowed me to avoid vacuuming the living room this evening. Excellent tour---do you think you could slash back your roses for the first year or 2 in order to get those big healthy canes? Don't know if I could.

I wanted to be there with you both looking at all those beautiful roses. I'm full of admiration for the people who run their nurseries as they make it look so easy but it definitely isn't! No blackspot is amazing. Almost every rose in my garden has it this year. Koko Loco looked a beautiful rose. Such an unusual colour. Hi lovely Wendy. Yes a lot of work I know. Prior to this we went to a field with younger roses that hes bringing on and much of his time is spent there. Minuscule pinching out etc all to make them look like the ones you see here. Yeah no blackspot at all. Mine is full of it :(

I think that was the rose equivalent of eating a whole variety box of delicious chocolates at one sitting! I enjoyed every minute but I feel I have overindulged. If only we all had fields like that to plant our roses - and the weather conditions there must be fantastic for roses if they are unfed, unwatered and still disease free. You are of course right - the best way to choose a rose is to see and smell it when it is in flower, but that is alas not always possible. And to see different varieties of outstanding roses together so that you can compare them directly is the cherry on the top. You did a great job with the filming and chat - I think you have a future as a television presenter!

Haha that made me smile. It was previously agreed there will be a couple/few more videos with Peter this year. And I really wanna get his soil in and how his roses do so well. I can only assume that perhaps every 2 or 3 years peters field, and as was once sung in a song, it moves to the left a little bit and then a few years later it moves to the right. That way the farmer gets to plant his hungry vegetables where peters roses had been growing. And the roses get the new well fed soil in the new spot I don’t know but I will speak to him about this. Wow! What a great place, it’s like the trial or testing garden for roses for getting ADR logo here in Germany. Peter‘s nursery has all my favourite roses and some are already in my garden for a long time. Jubilee Papa Meilland is still on my list. My Pacific blue is beautiful this year. I‘m surprised you choose Madame Anisette, now you know how it smells, crazy isn’t it, incredible scent of anis, myrrh and other scents. Line Renaud has amazing scent too! Thanks for sharing this to us Jay, I really love it!🌹

You would have loved it Gemma. I didn’t realise (or forgot) you had pacific blue I really liked that one. Yes Madame Anisette I didn’t realise was Madame Anisette until I got home and was editing. This one not the best example but this has happened to me several times now with totally obscure roses with obscure names that I have chosen, only to establish later with name changes that they are top performing roses just with different names. And it’s a great feeling when it happens it’s like a blind fold test and reveal. Boom. I done the exact same thing with the anniversary rose in the Peter beales video. Transpired to be the famous Line Renaud. Another great. :)

@@Jay_Jay Good morning Jay! The same rose with lots of names in different country. What surprised me the most is how the roses grew so healthy & with so many flowers. I noticed he didn’t plant the rose with huge distance. I got Avec Amour too but planted in shaded area, limited blooms for many years. Maybe you can unlocked the mystery of how the rose can grow like that without water & feed. In the meantime, I’ll be watching your video repeatedly. Peter‘s Bliss Parfuma ( which I have called Märchenzauber here in Germany) looks great too! A lovely day to you & your wife!

One of the prettiest flowers of the day especially when freshly opened, and when it fades not a total disaster with the touch of pink and red coming in. @@Jay_Jay You have read my mind! I was going to nag you in my comment to find out what that farmer is doing, lol. Did the man say he was going to cut back all those roses? I can't remember without looking it up, if we are supposed to do that this time of year. Frankly, I'm so mad at mine that I'm seriously considering giving them all a good haircut just to give them the business. I have a Marc Chagall and he is a huge black spot magnet for me. He is like just two stalks without many leaves because of the black spot. It's so weird because the first year I planted him, he did so well but the past two years.. serious meh and I do so love the blooms. When I do my next video, I'll show you his sorry arse, lol. In fact, they all look pretty sad but let me tell you, I have a bumper crop of weeds!

Hi there. Yes the flowers were lovely with strong growth and it was the fragrance!! Honestly an extremely attractive fragrance for my nose. They say liquorice, Myrrh, sweet, but I don’t know all I do know is it was gorgeous scent for me. The flower just a slight pink with creamy white and the shape of that flower it was like a wedding rose. I’m making room:)

Do not worry. It was my friend that introduced me to Peter and his wonderful rose nursery. It was Peter that recommended Pacific Blue and so glad he did, doing amazingly well and preparing for its third flush. What a great resource to have so near to where you live. A bit perplexing how perfect everything looks with no irrigation or amendments; must be a matter of the soil providing everything the roses need. Agree with your top two picks but was also impressed with Julia Childs and Jubilee Papa. Thank you for sharing!

Well done. I honestly think these local rose nurseries have the edge. Any garden centre near me especially the big branded garden centres, when it comes to roses at this time of year they struggle in comparison.

Two years ago, in mid season, following an informative and helpful, telephone call, I purchased, a potted "Austin" rose from Peter. The rose when it arrived was an exceptionally magnificent plant, incomparable to previous purchases from other suppliers.I have to tell you, that by summer's end my wonderful rose , growing in a large pot, was three and a half feet, or more tall, of extremely strong canes, with continuos flowers. The plant was so strong...... I began to believe Peter had sold me a Triffid!

It’s pure bliss to watch the video mate. All roses look awesome and super healthy and happy to see Julia Child, Nostalgia , koko loco purchased recently featured in video. It would be interesting to know about rootstock and pruning practices to achieve such strong growth. One more thing, I feel video ends too early.

Hi Rakesh. It’s rose Laxa as rootstock. Funny you should say it ended too early because there was about a dozen more roses that I had to ruthlessly edit out because of time. Furthermore the video originally started in another field with baby roses with Peter showing us how he painstakingly pinches out miniscule buds and stems to keep the roses in best condition but it was all too long. However we already decided this will feature in another video.

As someone who makes video you’ll probably understand to get this final video exported I had to delete much of it down because of storage. (I do everything on my phone). The roses here are not fed at all. But as is said in the video the farmer keeps that soil in tip top condition from growing his vegetables. But I will do another video about this. Cheers mate

Hi Jay!!! Really enjoyed watching your video!!! Nice choice! I have Pacific Blue as standard tree, highly recommend that rose. I wish I could share some pictures with you. From my experience about Pacific Blue - do not keep her under direct sunlight, she definitely doesnt like it, heat as well, doesnt really tolerate heat and sunlight but good with rain. It is a wonderful rose!!! Will be looking into Perfume collection after your videos, you always mention them. Thanks for your videos 🤗

Hi lily yes pacific blue lovely. Would you say it’s shade tolerant? Some of the roses I have I fluked. I chose roses on the day that transpired to be from the Parfuma, parfum or fairytale collection but because of name changes I didn’t know. This rose at the end I didn’t know a glorious Parfuma even existed! It was only when making the video I found out it was the famous Madame Anisette. Tallulah I didn’t realise was from the fairytale collection. The anniversary rose I didn’t realise was from the parfum collection but you see me stumble across it in the Peter beales video. :)

Jay Jay, Thank you for your videos but especially this one! You’ve located Glorious Parfuma aka Madame Anisette for me right here in England! That’s has really made my day, thank you! I’ve been looking for this rose and had no idea Eastcroft Roses had her! Eastcroft needs to update their online catalogue or they will miss out on customers! Unfortunately, Eastcroft isn’t local to me. I’ve bought one rose (so far!) from them, Scent from Heaven earlier in spring, and I was so impressed by the specimen I received, very healthy. Did you, by any chance, see/ sniff test Rhapsody in Blue during your visits to Eastcroft?

I did look at all the blue roses pretty much mate but can’t remember all the names. But pacific blue was the favourite on that day. Yes I didn’t even realise a glorious Parfuma even existed! I had no idea it was the elusive Madame Anisette until I got home and was editing the video! That is a true story. You can imagine me falling over I text Peter straight away and asked him to reserve me one for bare root season. I’ve looked for it so many times and it was right there. I promise you that’s a true story. The fragrance is particularly attractive for my nose anyway. Thanks for dropping my friend and good luck with your roses.

8:22 Hybrid teas are not my thing, but this Meilland rose does have a unique, pleasing velvety appearance on the petals. My thrill is the old cabbage, Victorian form of roses, be they modern or old, no matter to me, just the cabbage form, quartered is even nicer and clouds of perfume. 17:24 Nice color blend, the striations are in sync with one another. 19:33 I also do not care for white roses, only if they are strongly quartered like Madamm Hardy, then the light color emphasizes the sculptural impression of the pronounced quartering. Alas, I was not able to get a Madamme Hardy with it's gorgeous quartering, and it's little green tick in the center, and it's high petal count, soI contented myself with a white perpetual moss rose, since I had no whites at all. 21:08 Yes, a superior shade of yellow, like june butter from a Jersey cow, soft, pastel radiant yellow. 21:20 Low petal count, alas! I prefer roses stuffed to the gills with petals, the cent feuille form. 22:51 Nicely quartered, I love Kordes roses, they go for the old Victorian form, the "fairytale" form, I have several David Austin roses, I love them, they are 90% of the way to old Victorian form, but Kordes goes all the way, pure nostalgic form, and if they nod, so much the better. 24:31 Bliss Parfuma, absolutely wondrous, like it has a golden light illuminating the center, very nice form also, although I see no quartering. Well, thank you for sharing this. i appreciate the honest, non commercial discussion, including his comments regarding powdery mildew. Oh my! Except that mine is white, my what we call coon dog here in the USA looks identical to mine. Exactly one year ago, I walked round back of my workshop and there laid a quite literally skin and bones , covered in flies, coon dog. I dropped my tools, went got her food, but she was so shy for about 3 days. Now she is happy, healthy, never on a chain or in a cage, I go for walks with our 10 years of age bulldog, that is the coon dog's "green light" to go hunting for several hours. She has annihilated all of the groundhogs, raacoons etc. that were wrecking my garden. So, anyhow, until later, Godspeed to you! Ralph in Ohio

Seanie is also a rescue dog who was in rescue kennels for many years without a home. He couldn’t be homed because he is reactive to other dogs and people aren’t interested or haven’t the extra time available to settle him but he’s an amazing pet. And has come on leaps and bounds since we got him. I don’t think he will ever be without a muzzle but his life is much better now. Interesting what you call the breed over in the states. They call them greyhounds here. The term you use stateside in the U.K. is a racial slur similar to the N word. Interesting I hear the word bitch stateside is an absolute expletive but in the U.K. Not so much. Anyhow take care Ralph and thanks so much for your input.

Good evening Jay, Bless you for rescuing your doggie.@@Jay_Jay ♥♥ Hmmm? "coon dog" is profanity in the U.K.? Interesting. I learned Spanish for 3 years, Then Learned French for 2 years, then later learned German, so I am accustomed to words and phrases having different weight in various languages and dialects. Words, the history, their origins, what a word was many hundreds of years ago, compared to what the word is now, for example Chaucerian English which i memorized in school strikes me as being quite Germanic, I do understand that the Norse language also factored into English long ago. Usually big changes occur in languages to to occupation of a foreign nation for many decades and hundreds of years in the nation that they conquered. For example, The English language before the Roman occupation was a completely different animal to what it now is. The purpose of any language is of course is to convey information over time and distance and so it is well to be aware of words that may offend and , ideally avoid using them. I had no pre meditated plan to become so fascinated with roses, I was sort of drawn in.

Haha you know it. I deliberately didn’t say anything about price in the video but when you see the roses in the flesh you get alot of rose. I’ve never bought online from him but when collected in person they are…. Great value. For what you get, embarrassingly so. :)
